This document specifies a micrographic method of determining apparent ferritic or austenitic grain size in steels. It describes the methods of revealing grain boundaries and of estimating the mean grain size of specimens with unimodal size distribution. Although grains are three-dimensional in shape, the metallographic sectioning plane can cut through a grain at any point from a grain corner, to the maximum diameter of the grain, thus producing a range of apparent grain sizes on the two-dimensional plane, even in a sample with a perfectly consistent grain size.

This European Standard specifies the technical delivery conditions in two test categories for seamless tubes of circular cross section, with specified elevated temperature properties, made of non-alloy and alloy steel.
This Part of EN 10216 may also be applied for tubes of non-circular cross section; necessary modification should be agreed at the time of enquiry and order.
NOTE Once this standard is published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) under Directive 97/23/EC, presumption of conformity to the Essential Safety Requirements (ESR) of Directive 97/23/EC is limited to technical data of materials in this standard and does not presume adequacy of the material to a specific item of equipment. Consequently, the assessment of the technical data stated in this material standard against the design requirements of this specific item of equipment to verify that the ESRs of the Pressure Equipment Directive are satisfied, needs to be done by the designer or manufacturer of the pressure equipment, taking also into account the subsequent manufacturing processes which may affect properties of the base materials.

ISO 6506-2:2017 specifies methods of direct and indirect verification of testing machines used for determining Brinell hardness in accordance with ISO 6506‑1 and also specifies when these two types of verification have to be performed.
The direct verification involves checking that individual machine performance parameters fall within specified limits whereas the indirect verification utilizes hardness measurements of reference blocks, calibrated in accordance with ISO 6506‑3, to check the machine's overall performance.
If a testing machine is also to be used for other methods of hardness testing, it has to be verified independently for each method.
ISO 6506-2:2017 is applicable to both fixed location and portable hardness testing machines. For machines that are incapable of satisfying the specified force-time profile, the direct verification of force and testing cycle can be modified by the use of Annex B.

The present Technical Report gives guidance regarding the chemical composition controls of steels (except chrome plated products) and cast irons in respect of the European legislation, namely Directives 2011/65/EU (RoHS) [1], repealing 2002/95/EU, the Commission Delegated Directive EU 2015/863 amending Annex II to Directive 2011/65/EU [10] and 2000/53/EC (ELV) [2].
These Directives require the characterization of these materials for Cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr (VI)), mercury (Hg), Lead (Pb), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) and the four phthalates DEHP, BBP DBP and DIBP. Nevertheless, the Directives do not reflect the correspondence between these elements/compounds and the normal composition of each material concerned. In other words, for every material there is an obligation to determine all the compounds listed, independently of the relevance of such controls.

This document specifies deformation properties perpendicular to the surface of the product.
This document may be applied as a supplement to all product standards for flat products and sections of fully killed steels, except stainless steels. It covers products having a nominal thickness (t) between 15 mm and 400 mm of steels with a specified minimum upper yield strength ReH or proof strength Rp0,2 ≤ 960 MPa ) for which improved through thickness properties are required.
This document may be applied to other steel types if agreed at the time of the order.
This document may be applied to products with thickness between 10 mm ≤ t <15 mm if agreed at the time of the order. See option 1.
This document may be applied to products with thickness t > 400 mm if agreed at the time of the order. See Option 2.

This document specifies the general and dimensional requirements for 24° cone connectors using cutting ring and O‑ring seal cone (referred to as DKO) suitable for use with ferrous and non‑ferrous tubes with outside diameters from 4 mm to 42 mm inclusive. These connectors are for use in fluid power and general applications within the limits of pressure and temperature specified in this document.
They are intended for the connection of plain end tubes and hose fittings to ports in accordance with ISO 6149‑1, ISO 1179‑1 and ISO 9974‑1. (See ISO 12151‑2 for a related hose fitting specification.)
These connectors provide full-flow connections in hydraulic systems operating to the working pressures shown in Table 1. Because many factors influence the pressure at which a system performs satisfactorily, these values are not intended to be understood as guaranteed minimums. For every application, sufficient testing is meant to be conducted and reviewed by both the user and manufacturer to ensure that required performance levels are met.
NOTE 1 For new designs in hydraulic fluid power applications, see the requirements given in 9.6. Where the requirements of the application allow for the use of elastomeric seals, connector designs that conform to International Standards and incorporate elastomeric sealing are preferred.
NOTE 2 For use under conditions outside the pressure and/or temperature limits specified, see 5.4.
This document also specifies a performance and qualification test for these connectors.

This document specifies technical delivery requirements for the surface quality of round bars, squares, hexagons and wire rod in the hot rolled condition with nominal dimensions dN from 5 mm to 200 mm. This document is applicable to bright products and tool steels, if agreed at the time of enquiry and order between manufacturer and purchaser.
By agreement between manufacturer and purchaser, this document can also be applied to other special profiles.
This document is particularly applicable to steels for engineering and structural applications.
This document does not include any requirements for the permissible depth of surface decarburization.
NOTE The determination of depth of surface decarburization is presented in ISO 3887.
The material standards for steel bars and wire rod can exclude the application of one or other of the surface quality classes of this document. They can also cover requirements for surface quality which deviate from this document. In these cases the requirements of the material standard prevail.
