Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 2026-05-23.

These Terms and Conditions (the "Sales Agreement") govern every order placed on standards.iteh.ai (the "Platform"), operated by iTeh Inc., a Delaware corporation ("iTeh", "we", "us").

By placing an order — whether for a permanent PDF licence, a printed document, an E-Library read, a Subscription, or any add-on such as AI Chat — you accept this Sales Agreement and the Customer Licence Agreement, which is incorporated into this Sales Agreement by reference. The Privacy Policy is likewise incorporated.

Please read all of the following terms before completing your purchase.

1. Definitions

  • "Account" — a personal account or a business account (organization) registered on the Platform.
  • "Catalog" — the standards, packages, and related publications offered for sale or licence on the Platform, regardless of issuing body (ISO, IEC, CEN, CENELEC, ETSI, ASTM, SIST, and others).
  • "Customer" — the natural person or legal entity placing an order.
  • "Document" — a standard or other publication available on the Platform.
  • "Order" — a confirmed purchase of one or more Products.
  • "Product" — any of the items described in Section 2.
  • "Subscription" — a recurring, scope-based reading licence as described in Section 6.

2. Products and services

iTeh sells access to standards through the following Product types, which may be combined in a single Order:

2.1 Permanent PDF licence

A perpetual, single-licence-per-seat right to read a Document. Quantity equals the number of licence seats granted to the purchasing Account. Re-download from the Platform is unlimited for the duration of the Account's existence.

2.2 Printed document

A physical paper copy of the Document, shipped to the address you provide at checkout. Printed documents are produced and dispatched by iTeh or by the issuing body. Shipping times depend on destination and carrier.

2.3 E-Library

A per-document, time-limited reading licence that grants in-browser access to a single Document for the access window you select at checkout (month, quarter, half year, or full year — options vary by Document). E-Library access:

  • is personal and non-transferable — one reader per purchase;
  • starts immediately on successful payment (for bank-transfer orders, on reconciliation of the transfer, see Section 5.3);
  • expires automatically at the end of the selected window, with no automatic renewal;
  • does not include print, download, or "save as" capability.

2.4 AI Chat (E-Library add-on)

An optional add-on to an E-Library purchase that provides an AI assistant constrained to the text of the single Document you are reading. AI Chat is governed by Section 9.

2.5 Subscription

A scope-based reading licence governed by Section 6. A Subscription unlocks every Document within a defined scope (an issuing body's full collection, or an ICS classification) for the duration of the Subscription, and includes the Engineering Workplace annotation layer described in Section 7.

2.6 Packages

Curated collections of Documents grouped by industry, topic, or publisher. A Package is sold as a single Order line. Once paid, the included Documents are made available in the same form as a Permanent PDF licence.

3. Account and accuracy of information

To place an Order you must register an Account and keep your billing and contact information current. iTeh relies on the information you provide to issue invoices, deliver Products, and apply applicable taxes; you are responsible for its accuracy. Sharing of Account credentials is not permitted (see Section 8.2).

Business accounts (organizations) may have multiple members in two roles — Admin and User — whose permissions and visibility are described in the platform documentation. The Admin who places an Order acts on behalf of, and binds, the organization to this Sales Agreement.

4. Pricing, currency, and taxes

4.1 Prices

All prices shown on the Platform are exclusive of shipping (where applicable) and exclusive of taxes unless explicitly stated. The price that appears in the order total at the moment of payment is the price charged.

4.2 Currency

Orders are billed in the currency configured on your Account. We do not silently convert: the amount displayed at checkout is the amount debited.

4.3 Discounts and coupons

Three discount layers may apply to an Order and stack with one another:

  1. Item discount — a publisher-driven promotion attached to a specific Document.
  2. Volume discount — an automatic price tier triggered by the quantity on a single Order line.
  3. Coupon discount — applied to the order subtotal after per-line discounts. Coupons may be restricted by validity date, Customer, or scope; restrictions are enforced at checkout.

4.4 Taxes

Local taxes are applied to Orders with a billing address in Delaware, USA (currently 0% of purchase). Payment of any local, sales, value-added, withholding, or other taxes that may apply to Orders dispatched outside Delaware, USA, is the responsibility of the Customer. Where the Customer provides a valid VAT/Tax ID for a business account, that ID will appear on the invoice and may affect the tax treatment in jurisdictions where the reverse-charge mechanism applies.

5. Payment

5.1 Payment methods

The Platform supports three payment methods:

  • Credit or debit card, processed by Stripe. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant; iTeh does not see or store full card numbers.
  • PayPal, processed by PayPal in accordance with PayPal's own terms.
  • Bank transfer, against the bank coordinates and reference number iTeh issues by email after you place the Order.

There is no price difference between methods.

5.2 Card and PayPal payments

Card and PayPal Orders move to Paid status when the gateway confirms the charge, typically within seconds. Permanent PDF licences, E-Library reads, and Subscriptions become available in your library immediately. Printed documents enter the shipment queue.

5.3 Bank transfer

Bank-transfer Orders enter Pending payment status until the transfer is received and reconciled (typically 1–3 business days for European transfers, longer for international wires). For Products where the access window starts at activation — notably E-Library — the window begins on reconciliation, not on Order placement. You must use the reference number from the bank-transfer email exactly as shown so that finance can match the incoming transfer to your Order.

5.4 Free orders

If discounts or coupons reduce the total to zero, the Order is placed without a payment step. The same access and licence terms apply as for paid Orders.

5.5 Failed payment

If a card or PayPal payment is declined, no Order is created and no licences are granted. If a card payment for a Subscription renewal fails, access is paused while the gateway retries on its standard schedule and you are notified by email; if the retry sequence exhausts without success, the Subscription is cancelled in accordance with Section 6.6.

6. Subscriptions

A Subscription grants in-browser reading access to every Document within the defined scope, plus the Engineering Workplace, for the billing period chosen at checkout.

6.1 Scope

You choose a Subscription scope at the time of subscribing — typically an issuing body's full collection, or a specific ICS classification. A single Account may hold multiple Subscriptions to different scopes in parallel. Annotations made under one Subscription are not automatically visible under another.

6.2 Seats

Each Subscription has a number of seats, where one seat permits one concurrent reader. The seat count is chosen at checkout (minimum one, no upper limit). Volume discounts apply automatically as the seat count grows. Seat sharing (i.e., multiple individuals using the same Account credentials) is not permitted (see Section 8.2).

6.3 Billing interval

Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually, at your choice. Annual Subscriptions are charged at a lower effective price per month.

6.4 Automatic renewal

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period using the payment method on file, unless cancelled. You will receive notice of each renewal charge by email and via the invoice generated in your Account.

6.5 Changing scope or seats

You may change the seat count or billing interval of an active Subscription from Account → Subscriptions → Manage. Changes may modify the billing cycle:

  • Increasing seats restarts the billing cycle on the day of change. The unused portion of the previous billing period is credited against the new charge.
  • Decreasing seats takes effect immediately. Amounts already paid for the previous seat count are not refunded; we recommend reducing seats near the end of the current billing period.
  • Switching scope requires cancelling the existing Subscription and subscribing to the new scope; both may run in parallel during the transition.

6.6 Cancellation

A Subscription may be cancelled at any time during the billing cycle from the Manage screen. Reading access continues until the end of the current paid period; no charge is taken for the next period. Cancellation does not entitle the Customer to a refund of any unused portion of the current period.

6.7 Annotations on expiry

When a Subscription ends, you lose access to the underlying Documents. Your Engineering Workplace annotations are retained in our database and reappear if you renew the Subscription (or rejoin the organization that owns it). See Section 7.

7. Engineering Workplace

The Engineering Workplace is the annotation and collaboration layer built into Subscription reading. It lets you highlight, draw, and add text notes overlaid on a Document. The Document itself is never modified — annotations live in a separate layer.

7.1 Personal versus business Subscriptions

On a Subscription owned by a personal Account, annotations are visible only to the author.

On a Subscription owned by a business Account, the author may publish selected annotations to other members of the organization who have access to the same Subscription. Unpublished annotations remain visible only to the author.

7.2 Ownership and retention

You retain ownership of the textual and graphical content of your annotations. By creating annotations, you grant iTeh a non-exclusive licence to store, render, and (where you choose to publish them) serve them to other authorized members of your organization for as long as your Account or Subscription is active.

Annotations are not purged automatically when a Subscription expires or when a member leaves an organization; previously published annotations remain visible to the organization, private annotations remain attached to the author's Account.

7.3 No redistribution

The Engineering Workplace does not enable print, download, or "save as", and you may not extract annotated content from the Platform by other means for redistribution.

8. Acceptable use and licence

8.1 Licence

Every Document delivered on the Platform — whether as a Permanent PDF licence, E-Library read, Subscription read, or part of a Package — is licensed under the Customer Licence Agreement and the copyright and licence terms of its issuing body. The Customer Licence Agreement is incorporated into this Sales Agreement by reference.

8.2 Non-distribution and prohibited use

Documents and AI Chat outputs are for the Customer's internal use only. The Customer shall not:

  • redistribute, resell, sublicense, lend, lease, or otherwise transfer Documents in whole or in part;
  • remove, alter, or obscure any watermark, copyright notice, or digital-rights mark;
  • share Account credentials, seat assignments, or session tokens with any third party;
  • attempt to circumvent the Platform's reading-only controls, DRM, rate limits, or watermarking;
  • use the Platform's automated interfaces (including MCP endpoints and any AI-facing APIs) beyond their documented purpose, or to extract Documents at scale.

iTeh may suspend or terminate Account access in the event of a material breach of this Section 8 (see Section 12).

8.3 Ordinary citation

Nothing in this Sales Agreement prevents ordinary academic or professional citation of a Document (a clause number with a short exact quotation and attribution), to the extent permitted by the copyright and licence terms of the issuing body.

9. AI Chat

AI Chat is an optional, paid add-on available on E-Library purchases and (where indicated) on Subscriptions.

9.1 Scope

AI Chat answers are generated from the text of the single Document you are reading. The assistant does not draw on other standards, your purchase history, or any data outside the open Document.

9.2 Not a substitute for professional judgment

AI Chat is a reading aid, not a compliance, legal, or engineering opinion. Outputs may be incomplete or inaccurate. The Customer is responsible for verifying clause numbers, exact wording, and the applicability of any requirement before relying on it in deliverables.

9.3 Conversations and data

Conversations are scoped to the Document and persist for the duration of the Customer's access. Conversation contents may be processed by third-party AI providers under their own terms; iTeh does not share identifying Customer data beyond what is necessary to fulfil the request. See the Privacy Policy for details.

9.4 Charging

AI Chat is charged per E-Library purchase at the time of purchase and cannot be enabled or disabled mid-period. Re-purchase the Document to change the AI Chat selection.

10. Order confirmation, invoices, and access

10.1 Confirmation

A confirmation email is sent for every successful Order. The Order, its invoice, and its associated licences are available from Account → Orders.

10.2 Invoices

Invoices are generated for every paid Order and for every recurring Subscription charge. Make sure your billing information is complete before the Order is placed; invoices, once issued, can be re-issued with corrected details only at iTeh's discretion and may incur an administrative fee.

10.3 Access

  • Permanent PDF licences appear in Account → My Documents.
  • E-Library reads appear in My Documents with the access window highlighted.
  • Subscription content appears in the Subscription's reader.
  • Printed documents are queued for shipment; tracking arrives by email.

11. Return and refund policy

Electronic Products — Permanent PDF licences, E-Library reads, Subscriptions, AI Chat, and Packages — are non-refundable once the Order is paid. Standards licensing is irreversible: once a Document or an access window is delivered to your Account, the corresponding licence is granted and may not be returned.

Limited exceptions, at iTeh's sole discretion:

  • duplicate accidental purchases of the same Product on the same Account within 7 days, where access has not been used;
  • bank-transfer overpayments;
  • demonstrable platform errors (e.g., a paid Order that did not unlock the corresponding licence and cannot be reconciled manually).

For printed documents, a return may be accepted only if the package is delivered damaged or the contents are demonstrably defective, and only if iTeh is notified within 14 days of delivery with photographic evidence. Shipping fees are non-refundable.

To request consideration of any exception, contact iTeh support with the Order number.

12. Termination and suspension

iTeh may suspend or terminate Account access, an Order, a Subscription, or the entire Account in the event of:

  • material breach of this Sales Agreement, the Customer Licence Agreement, or applicable law;
  • non-payment (including failed Subscription renewals after the gateway's retry sequence has exhausted);
  • fraud, chargeback abuse, or attempts to circumvent the Platform's licence controls.

Cancellation of a Subscription by the Customer is governed by Section 6.6.

The terms of Sections 5 and 6 of the Customer Licence Agreement (termination and limitations of liability) are incorporated into this Sales Agreement.

13. Security

Communication with the Platform is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.3 (with TLS 1.2 fallback where required by older clients), with strong cipher suites. Payment information is processed and stored exclusively by our payment processors (Stripe, PayPal); iTeh does not handle or retain raw card data.

14. Data protection

Personal data is handled in accordance with the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into this Sales Agreement.

15. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, iTeh's aggregate liability under this Sales Agreement is limited to the amount paid by the Customer to iTeh in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. iTeh is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Nothing in this Section limits liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory law.

16. Changes to these terms

iTeh may amend this Sales Agreement at its sole discretion by posting the revised terms on the Platform. The revised terms are effective as of the date of their posting. Orders placed before that date remain governed by the version of the Sales Agreement in effect when the Order was placed.

17. Governing law and contact

This Sales Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Delaware for any dispute arising from or in connection with this Sales Agreement, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rules of the Customer's place of residence.
