ISO/TC 195 - Building construction machinery and equipment

This document establishes content for commercial specifications for drilling machines and foundation machines. It explains concepts related to their applications, working methods, machine types, and main components of the machines. This document is applicable to: — mobile drill rigs for civil and geotechnical engineering; — foundation equipment including piling machines; — diaphragm walling equipment; — jetting, grouting and injection equipment; — interchangeable auxiliary equipment. This document does not apply to: — machines specifically designed for mining application (e.g. rock drilling, raise boring, jumbo machines); — horizontal directional drilling (HDD) machines (covered by ISO 21467[ REF Reference_ref_6 \r \h 1]).

This document specifies the procedure and requirements for examination of the mixing efficiency of batch-type and continuous-type concrete mixers as defined in ISO 18650-1. It is applicable to concrete mixers having a rated capacity greater than or equal to 0,5 m3.

This document establishes the content for commercial specifications for concrete pumps which are used on building sites for concrete-mix delivery.

This document establishes content for commercial specifications for sweepers that are self-propelled (see Annex A) with an integrated chassis, chassis-mounted, pedestrian-controlled or towed behind a vehicle. This document applies to road surface cleaning machines used in outdoor improved surface applications for cleaning debris from public areas, roads, airports and industrial plants. This document does not specifically cover the carrier vehicle or towing vehicle (e.g. lorry). This document does not apply to: — cleaning machines for winter maintenance; — cleaning machines for indoor applications; — rotary road brush attachments which can be coupled to tractors and other machinery; — machines or components that are specifically designed for cleaning tram lines and rail tracks; — industrial sweepers.

This document specifies safety requirements for machines used for concrete surface floating and finishing. This includes pedestrian-controlled equipment and ride-on equipment. This document is not applicable to: — internal or external vibrators or ancillary equipment used with internal and external vibrators, e.g. air compressors, hydraulic power sources, and voltage transformers; — remote-controlled or hand-held smoothing machines and self-acting (e.g. robotic) smoothing machines; — strike-off type machines commonly known as screeds. This document deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations, or hazardous events relevant to machinery for concrete surface floating and finishing (power trowels) when used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. This document is not applicable to machines which are manufactured before the date of its publication.

This document specifies the safety requirements for truck mixers defined in ISO19711-1. This document does not deal with carrier vehicles, e.g. trucks, tractors, construction machinery and mobile industrial handling equipment or other self-propelled vehicles. This document does not include requirements which are covered in directives related to the construction of vehicles or national road regulations. NOTE The use in public road traffic is governed by the national regulations. This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to truck mixers when they are used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see Annex D). This document specifies the appropriate technical measures to eliminate or reduce risks arising from the significant hazards during transportation, assembly, dismantling, disabling, scrapping, operation and maintenance of the truck mixer. Figures to show examples in this document are listed in Annex A. This document is not applicable to truck mixers manufactured before the date of its publication.

This document establishes content for commercial specifications for horizontal directional drilling (HDD) machines. This document specifies general safety requirements for self-loading mobile concrete mixers (here-after referred to as “machines”) as defined in ISO 18650-1:2021, with rigid or articulated wheeled chassis. This document applies to machines which are designed for front or rear loading and are provided with a swinging frame where the rotating drum and the self-loading equipment (lift arms and bucket) are mounted on. Machines are also fitted with accessories such as water dosing means and a weighing system. This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to the machine when used as intended or under conditions of misuse reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. This document is not applicable to the following: a) machines designed primarily for earth moving, such as loaders or dumpers (see applicable parts of the ISO 20474 series); b) truck mixers. This document does not address hazards that can occur: — during manufacture; — when using machines on public roads, where specific local road regulations can apply; — when operating in potentially explosive atmospheres. This document is not applicable to machines manufactured before the date of its publication.

This document establishes the content for commercial specifications for paver-finishers used in road construction and maintenance processes for the placement and pre-compaction of paving materials. It covers the machine and its components and establishes parameters for technical characteristics for both. This document does not cover commercial specifications for road wideners which can perform similarly to a paver-finisher under certain conditions.

This document establishes the content for commercial literature for concrete mixers used either as individual machines on building sites or as components of batching plants. Definitions refer to whole machines, their structure and parameters. The commercial specifications establish technical characteristics of the whole machines and their components. Truck mixers, as defined in ISO 19711‑1, are excluded from this document.

This document specifies the procedure and requirements for examining the technical commercial specifications of factory new piston-type concrete pump and rotary-type concrete pump as defined in ISO 21573‑1. It applies to mobile concrete pumps (with or without concrete-placing boom) and stationary concrete pumps.

This document establishes the terminology and the content of commercial literature specifications for bituminous binder sprayers and synchronous bituminous binder sprayers-chip spreaders (i.e. synchronised combined units) including their components and their technical characteristics. This document covers cold and hot bituminous binder sprayers.

This document specifies safety requirements and measures for their verification for the design and construction of portable, hand-held, internal combustion engine-driven cut-off machines intended to be used by a single operator in the cutting of construction materials, such as asphalt, concrete, stone and metal. It is applicable only to those machines designed purposely for use with a rotating, bonded-abrasive and/or super-abrasive (for example diamond) cut-off wheel having a maximum outer diameter of 430 mm, centre-mounted on and driven by a spindle shaft where the top of the wheel rotates away from the operator (see Figure 1). This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events significant to these machines when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. See Annex F for a list of significant hazards. This document specifies methods for the elimination or reduction of hazards arising from their use, as well as the type of information on safe working practices to be provided with the machines. Cut-off wheel specifications are not considered in this document. Cut-off wheels are deemed to comply to existing cut-off wheel standards. NOTE For example see Bibliography. All through the document, portable, hand-held, internal combustion engine-driven cut-off machines are called "cut-off machines". This document is not applicable to machines manufactured before the date of its publication.

This document establishes the safety requirements for mobile crushers, as defined in ISO 21873‑1, for crushing rocks or for reprocessing construction materials and capable of re-location between worksites. It applies to mobile crushers that are either — self-propelled (mounted on a chassis); — lorry (truck) mounted; — or semi-trailer mounted. It does not apply to — fixed (stationary) crushers; — large mining-type movable crushers. This document deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to mobile crushers when used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. This document is not applicable to machines which are manufactured before the date of its publication.

This document establishes the terminology, functions, types and characteristics of road milling machinery. It is applicable to the planing of pavements made of concrete, asphalt and similar materials with a view to removing them.

This document defines terms and commercial specifications for truck mixers used for producing concrete or mortar and for delivering concrete, mortar or the materials of the mixture to worksites. This document is applicable to truck mixers that are either a) truck mounted, or b) semi-trailer mounted. This document does not apply to — fixed (stationary) mixers (see ISO 18650-1); — turbo mixers (see ISO 18650-1); — concrete or mortar mixing plants (see ISO 19720-1); — small portable mixers (see ISO 18650-1); — purpose-built underground truck mixers; — volumetric mixers (mobile concrete or mortar mixing plants).

ISO 19720-1:2017 specifies terms and definitions and commercial specifications for concrete mixing plants, concrete batching plants and dry mortar mixing plants used in the preparation of concrete and mortar.

ISO 21873-1:2015 specifies terminology and commercial literature specifications for mobile crushers used for crushing rocks or reprocessing construction materials and capable of relocation between worksites. It applies to mobile crushers that are either - self-propelled (mounted on a chassis), - lorry (truck) mounted, or - semi-trailer mounted. It does not apply to the following: - fixed (stationary) crushers; - large mining-type movable crushers.

ISO 17740-1:2015 defines terminology and commercial specifications for concrete placing systems which are stationary. ISO 17740-1:2015 is not applicable to concrete placing systems which are part of a mobile or trailer-mounted concrete pumping system (see ISO 21573‑1).

ISO 18650-2:2014 specifies the procedure and requirements for examination of the mixing efficiency of batch-type and continuous-type concrete mixers as defined in ISO 18650-1. It is applicable to concrete mixers having a rated capacity greater than or equal to 70/50.

ISO 21573-1:2014 establishes terminology and commercial-literature specifications for concrete pumps which are used on building sites for concrete-mix delivery.

ISO 15688:2012 establishes the terminology, definitions of operation and commercial specifications for soil stabilizers and their components intended for use in road construction and pavement works. ISO 15688:2012 does not apply to soil stabilizers used in agricultural applications.

ISO 18651:2011 specifies the terminology and gives commercial specifications for internal vibrators used for concrete mix compaction.

ISO/TR 12603:2010 classifies machinery and equipment used in the building and construction industry into three hierarchical levels, nine groups and into subgroups. It covers machines and equipment employed in the majority of works in the field, classified according to their specified use. In as far as possible, and where existent, International Standards corresponding to subgroups are specified. The ISO Technical Committees responsible for the International Standards are also given, together with, for the convenience of the user, any related European standards.

This document provides a terminology and sets out the commercial specifications for pedestrian‑controlled vibratory plates used in building construction. It is applicable to both forward- and reversible-type plates. These plate compactors are intended for the mechanical compaction of all disturbed soil, sand or aggregates used for load-bearing purposes — whether in new construction or repairs.

ISO 19452:2008 provides a terminology and sets out commercial specifications for pedestrian‑controlled vibratory (percussion) rammers used in building construction. It is not applicable to rammers that compact by use of a tamping action of the foot-plate (shoe), nor is it applicable to explosion-type rammers.

ISO 21592:2006 establishes terminology and commercial literature specifications for concrete spraying machines typically used for the execution of linings covering reinforcements of concrete structures and on bases of rock, walls of bricks, steel structures and wooden formworks. The figures given in annex show examples of machine types, structures and dimensional characteristics.

ISO 22242:2005 identifies and describes machinery and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of traffic routes, roads, highways, runways, aprons, etc. It is applicable to those specialized machines/equipment intended for pavement construction and road maintenance. It does not define terms, and its figures represent only a general view or outline.

ISO 18652:2005 defines terms and specifies the classification, performance requirements, test methods, designation and commercial specifications of external vibrators for concrete. It is applicable only to those power-driven external vibrators used for compacting concrete mix by vibration from the outside.

ISO 21537-1:2004 specifies dimensions for clamping flanges for the mounting of superabrasive cutting-off wheels (diamond saws) for use on stationary cutting-off machines for the machining of natural stone.

ISO 21537-2:2004 specifies dimensions for clamping flanges for the mounting of superabrasive cutting-off wheels (diamond saws) for use on stationary cutting-off machines, mobile cutting-off machines and hand-held cutting-off machines for the cutting of mineral materials.

ISO 16039:2004 establishes definitions, terminology and the content of commercial literature specifications for mobile, self-operating machines used for placing and finishing cement concrete, commonly called "slipform pavers", which mould concrete in a plastic condition. It specifies the general machine configuration and the special equipment depending on the types of work to be executed. This work can be concrete roadways, road safety structures (barriers, walls, etc.), road drainage structures (edgings, gulleys, gutters, etc.) and airport paving (runways, taxiways, aprons, etc.). ISO 16039:2004 does not apply to machines with non-travelling formwork fixed to the ground and to those construction works which require only a vertical progression.

ISO 15689:2003 establishes the terminology, functions, types and characteristics of powder binder spreaders used in road construction and maintenance processes.

ISO 15642:2003 establishes the terminology, gives requirements for specifications, and lists characteristics useful for determining theoretical performances and drafting technical documents for asphalt mixing plants used in the construction and maintenance of motorway, road and airport pavements, and road system and networks. It does not specify safety conditions, which are covered by specific standards. Equipment relating to quality control of manufactured products is defined by the standards specific to these products. ISO 15642:2003 is applicable to fixed plants during production time, whether they are transferable or not, which excludes mobile equipment for soil stabilization or retreading. It is applicable to mixing and/or coating plants for materials treated with hydrocarbon binders for continuous production and for batch production.

ISO 11886:2002 specifies terms and definitions of the main types of mechanical equipment for pile driving/extracting, such as pile arrangements on the construction site, pulling, installation of piles at the point of driving, driving and extraction of piles, pile head crushing, etc. Machines for non-mechanical processing, such as the injection of small piles with supporting fluids, are not dealt with in ISO 11886:2002. NOTE Annex A shows examples of pile driving and extracting equipment.

This International Standard establishes the terminology and determines the type of technical and commercial specifications for chippings spreaders. This International Standard is applicable to chippings spreaders intended for road construction and surface coating.

ISO 18651:2011 specifies the terminology and gives commercial specifications for internal vibrators used for concrete mix compaction.
