IEC 63303:2024 defines general structures and functions of HMI systems. An HMI life cycle example for HMI systems is included. This document specifies requirements and recommendations for activities in each stage of the life cycle including designing, using, and maintaining the HMI system. It also provides requirements and recommendations for functions and performance of HMI systems. The requirements and recommendations in this document are applicable to any controlled process using an HMI to interface to a control system. There can be differences in implementation to meet the specific needs based on the application and controlled process type.

IEC 62682:2022 specifies general principles and processes for the management of alarm systems based on controls system and human-machine interfaces (HMI) for facilities in the process industries. It covers all alarms to be presented to the operator through the control system, which includes alarms from basic process control systems, annunciators, packaged systems, and safety instrumented systems. The practices in this document are applicable to continuous, batch, and discrete processes. There can be differences in implementation to meet the specific needs based on process type. The primary function within the alarm system is to notify operators of abnormal process conditions or equipment malfunctions and support the response. The alarm systems can include both the basic process control system (BPCS) and the safety instrumented system (SIS), each of which uses measurements of process conditions and logic to generate alarms. Figure 1 illustrates the concepts of alarm and response dataflow through the alarm system. The alarm system also includes a mechanism for communicating the alarm information to the operator via an HMI, usually a computer screen or an annunciator. Additional functions of the alarm system are an alarm and event log, an alarm historian, and the generation of performance metrics for the alarm system. There are external systems that can use the data from the alarm system.

This part of IEC 61326 covers all equipment within the scope of IEC 61326-1, but is limited to systems and equipment for industrial applications within a specified electromagnetic environment and intended to perform safety functions as defined in IEC 61508 with SIL 1-3. The electromagnetic environments encompassed by this product family standard are industrial, both indoor and outdoor, and based on the requirements of the process industry, specifically chemical/petrochemical/pharmaceutical manufacturing plants using the mitigation measures given in Annex C. The difference between the electromagnetic environment covered by this document compared to the general industrial environment (see IEC 61326-3- 1) is due to the mitigation measures employed against electromagnetic phenomena leading to a specified electromagnetic environment with test values that have been proven in practice. The environment of industrial application with a specified electromagnetic environment typically includes the following characteristics: – industrial area with limited access; – limited use of mobile transmitters; – dedicated cables for power supply and control, signal or communication lines; – separation between power supply and control, signal or communication cables; – factory building mostly consisting of metal construction; – overvoltage/lightning protection by appropriate measures (for example, metal construction of the building or use of protection devices); - pipe heating systems driven by AC main power; - no high-voltage substation close to sensitive areas; - presence of CISPR 11 Group 2 ISM equipment using ISM frequencies only with low power; - competent staff; - periodical maintenance of equipment and systems; - mounting and installation guidelines for equipment and systems. Equipment and systems considered as "proven-in-use" according to IEC 61508 or "prior use" according to IEC 61511 are excluded from the scope of this document. Fire alarm systems and security alarm systems intended for protection of buildings are excluded from the scope of this document.

IEC 61326-2-3:2012 specifies detailed test configurations, operational conditions and performance criteria for transducers with integrated or remote signal conditioning. It applies only to transducers characterized by their ability to transform, with the aid of an auxiliary energy source, a non-electric quantity to a process-relevant electrical signal, and to output the signal at one or more ports. It includes transducers for electrochemical and biological measured quantities. The transducers covered by this standard may be powered by a.c. or d.c. voltage and/or by battery or with internal power supply. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2006. It constitutes a technical revision and includes the following significant technical change with respect to the previous edition: update of the document with respect to IEC 61326-1:2012.
