NEW!IEC 60335-2-58:2017 is available as IEC 60335-2-58:2017 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.
IEC 60335-2-58:2017 deals with the safety of electrically operated dishwashing machines for washing plates, dishes, glassware, cutlery and similar articles, with or without means for water heating or drying, not intended for household use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances connected between one phase and neutral and 480 V for other appliances. These appliances are used for example in restaurants, canteens, hospitals, and commercial enterprises such as bakeries, butcheries, etc. Examples of such appliances are conveyor dishwashers; batch dishwashers and brush machines. Requirements to avoid backsiphonage of non-potable water into the water mains are specified in Annex BB. The electrical part of appliances making use of other forms of energy is also within the scope of this standard. As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by these types of appliances. Attention is drawn to the fact that for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary. This standard does not apply to the following: appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes, for example machines used in the food industry for cleaning receptacles that serve as packaging for final products (e.g. bottle-cleaning machines), and machines used in manufacturing processes; sterilizers and washer-disinfectors used to treat medical materials (IEC 61010-2-040); dishwashers that do not form one functional unit, for example where a transportation device transfers the load from one separate unit to another; separately driven transport devices not confined in the appliance; appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas). This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition published in 2002 including its Amendment 1 (2008) and its Amendment 2 (2015). This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: The text has been aligned with Edition 5.2 of Part 1; Requirements and tests for vertical-lift doors with and without a counterbalance system are clarified (20.103, 20.104); Some notes have been converted to normative text or deleted (7.15, 9, 10.1, 11.7, 15.3, 19.4, 20.1, 20.102, 22.106, 22.107, 23.3). This part 2 is to be used in conjunction with the latest edition of IEC 60335-1 and its amendments. It was established on the basis of the fifth edition (2010) of that standard The attention of National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing organizations may need a transitional period following publication of a new, amended or revised IEC publication in which to make products in accordance with the new requirements and to equip themselves for conducting new or revised tests. It is the recommendation of the committee that the content of this publication be adopted for implementation nationally not earlier than 12 months or later than 36 months from the date of its publication.

These supplementary requirements apply to fuse-links for application in equipment containing semiconductor devices for circuits of nominal voltages up to 1 000 V AC. or 1 500 V DC. and also, in so far as they are applicable, for circuits of higher nominal voltages.
NOTE 1 Such fuse-Iinks are commonly referred to as "semiconductor fuse-links".
NOTE 2 In most cases, a part of the associated equipment serves the purpose of a fuse-base. Owing to the great variety of equipment, no general rules can be given; the suitability of the associated equipment to serve as a fuse- base should be subject to agreement between the manufacturer and the user. However, if separate fuse-bases or fuse-holders are used, they should comply with the appropriate requirements of IEC 60269-1.
NOTE 3 IEC 60269-6 (Low-voltage fuses – Part 6: Supplementary requirements for fuse-links for the protection of solar photovoltaic energy systems) is dedicated to the protection of solar photovoltaic energy systems.
NOTE 4 These fuse-links are intended for use on systems employing the standardized voltages and tolerances of IEC 60038. Tests carried out on fuse-links in accordance with previous editions of this standard shall remain valid until such time as complimentary equipment has evolved to the standardized voltages and tolerances of IEC 60038.
The object of these supplementary requirements is to establish the characteristics of semiconductor fuse-links in such a way that they can be replaced by other fuse-links having the same characteristics, provided that their dimensions are identical. For this purpose, this standard refers in particular to
a) the following characteristics of fuses:
1) their rated values;
2) their temperature rises in normal service;
3) their power dissipation;
4) their time-current characteristics;
5) their breaking capacity;
6) their cut-off current characteristics and their I2t characteristics;
7) their arc voltage characteristics;
b) type tests for verification of the characteristics of fuses;
c) the markings on fuses;
d) availability and presentation of technical data (see Annex BB).

IEC 61643-41:2025 is applicable to devices for surge protection against indirect and direct effects of lightning or other transient overvoltages.
These devices are intended to be connected to DC power circuits and equipment rated up to 1 500 V DC. Performance and safety requirements, tests and ratings are specified in this document. These devices contain at least one nonlinear component and are intended to limit surge voltages and divert surge currents.
The test requirements provided by this document are based on the assumption that the SPD is connected to a DC power circuit fed by a power source providing a linear voltage-current characteristic. When the SPD is to be connected to a different kind of source, careful consideration is required. This mainly applies with regard to system and fault conditions to be expected in such a system (e.g. expected short circuit current, TOV-stresses).
This document can apply for railway applications, when related product standards do not exist for that area or for certain applications.
Based on a risk assessment it might not be necessary to apply all requirements of this document to SPDs designed for specific power applications only, e.g. circuits with a low power capability, circuits supplied by nonlinear sources, circuits with protective separation from the utility supply.
NOTE 1 More information on risk assessment is provided in IEC Guide 116.
SPDs for PV applications are not covered by this document.
NOTE 2 Such SPDs for PV applications are covered by IEC 61643-31.
NOTE 3 Other exclusions based on national regulations are possible.
This International Standard is to be used in conjunction with IEC 61643-01.

A European Standardization Mandate is a formal request from the European Commission to the European Standardization Organizations (CEN, CENELEC, and ETSI) to develop European standards (ENs) in support of EU legislation and policies. Mandates are issued under Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012 and help ensure that products and services meet the essential requirements set out in EU directives and regulations.
M/511 is a European Standardization Mandate titled "Mandate to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI relating to harmonised standards in the field of the Low Voltage Directive". Mandate to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI relating to harmonised standards in the field of the Low Voltage Directive There are 1634 standards developed under this mandate.
Standards developed in response to a mandate and cited in the Official Journal of the European Union become "harmonized standards". Products manufactured in compliance with harmonized standards benefit from a presumption of conformity with the essential requirements of the corresponding EU directive or regulation, facilitating CE marking and market access across the European Economic Area.
