General Information
This document describes procedures for the assessment and validation of the performance of an optical spectrometer intended for use in capturing the spectral reflectance factor or the spectral radiance factor of printed areas comprised of non-fluorescent or fluorescent materials, respectively. While it does not describe the application to transmitting materials directly, many of the procedures can be applied to transmitting systems by backing them with a reflective white backing material.
This document does not address spectral measurements appropriate to other specific application needs, such as those used during the production of materials (e.g. printing paper and proofing media), which are well described by ISO standards under the jurisdiction of ISO/TC 6. It does not describe the special requirements for testing instruments that make in-process or online colour measurements.

ISO/TS 15311-2 gives guidance to print buyers and other users of print for assessing printed products on isotropic substrates that are typically held at a viewing distance of 30 to 50 cm. It specifies the proper application of required, recommended and optional metrics, measurement methods and, where appropriate, reporting requirements in the general commercial market. ISO 16760 specifies requirements for an RGB workflow for graphic arts printing based on the use of reflection prints (RGB Reference Prints) as the evaluation vehicle for coloured images. It provides guidelines on the creation of print-targeted RGB images (RGB Reference Images) and simulation prints. ISO 20677 is based on ISO 15076-1, and describes an expanded profile specification and profile connections that permit greater flexibility and functionality than ISO 15076-1. It specifies the exposure-time markings for all types of shutters and their tolerances. The characteristics of all types of mechanical shutters, which are mounted in still cameras and affect the control of exposure, motion-stopping ability and synchronization with a photoflash light source are also defined. The tolerances specified are the target values for the shutter performance that can be expected to give good results. They are not intended for application as a general inspection standard in controlling the performance of mechanical shutters, since tolerances may vary with the feature and price class of camera tested. Test methods are described for routine manufacturing testing and quality control. These test methods require access to the focal plane of the camera and can therefore not be applied to assembled digital still cameras.

This part of ISO 2834 specifies a test method for preparation of test prints produced with liquid waterbased
or solvent-based printing inks as used in flexography and gravure printing. These test prints are
intended primarily for optical tests, such as gloss, colorimetry, transparency and reflection density.
They can also be used for testing light fastness and the chemical, physical and mechanical resistance
to mechanical and chemical attack regarding either printing ink and/or substrate. Flexographic inks

This International Standard establishes general principles for the care and handling of digital optical
discs during use. It addresses the issues of physical integrity of the medium necessary to preserve access
to the recorded data (information). This International Standard includes recommendations for handling
procedures to maximize the effective life of optical discs. Faulty handling, packing and transporting
techniques and methods often cause physical damage to the discs and to the content recorded thereon.
Extending the longevity of optical discs requires the identification of appropriate handling methods, as
well as well-developed and implemented training programs.
For the purposes of this International Standard, the term “optical disc” includes the families of compact
disc (CD), digital versatile disc (DVD), high definition digital versatile disc (HD DVD) and Blu-ray disc
(BD)1), and any hybrids of these families. The term “optical disc” also includes each type of disc within
a family, including injection moulded [read-only memory (ROM)], dye-layer [recordable (R)] and phase
change [rewritable (RW, RE), random access memory (RAM), and recordable (BD-R)] technologies.
While some of the recommendations in this International Standard (e.g. those for staff training) apply
specifically to large-scale or long term usage, the basics of all recommendations in this International
Standard are intended to be applied in circumstances where the desired result is long-term usage of the
medium whether archival, commercial or personal.
This International Standard does not cover magneto-optical (MO) discs, laser discs (LD) or glass discs.
At the time of writing, International Standards do not exist for HD DVD and Blu-ray discs. Nonetheless,
it is believed that the recommendations in this International Standard for care and handling can equally
apply to them. It is recognized that some of these requirements are not necessarily possible for the
individual user to achieve.
The following are within the scope of this International Standard:
— use and handling environments, including pollutants, temperature and humidity and light exposure;
— contamination concerns;
— inspection;
— cleaning and maintenance, including cleaning methods and frequency;
— transportation;
— disasters, including water, fire, construction and post-disaster procedures;
— staff training.
The quality of the data written on the disc is outside the scope of this International Standard. However,
a high quality result of the recording phase is important to the longevity of information. It is advisable
that a rigorous program of data integrity testing be implemented, as this forms an obligatory part of
all digital long-term storage. In addition, when keeping digital information for archival purposes, it is
advisable that a multiple copy/multiple location strategy be in place.

This International Standard specifies a test method for estimating the life expectancy of information stored on recordable compact disc systems.
