IEC 62841-3-1:2014 applies to transportable table saws with:
- a toothed single blade; or
- stacked blades that cut a single groove or slot; or
- a moulding head cutter intended for cutting wood and analogous materials, plastics and nonferrous metals except magnesium with a saw blade diameter between 105 mm and 315 mm, which hereinafter may simply be referred to as saw or tool. The rated voltage is not more than 250 V for single-phase a.c. or d.c. tools, and 480 V for three-phase a.c. tools. The rated input is not more than 3 700 W. The limits for the applicability of this standard for battery tools is given in Annex K. This standard deals with the hazards presented by tools which are encountered by all persons in the normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of the tools. This standard does not apply to table saws intended to cut other metals, such as magnesium, steel and iron. This standard does not apply to table saws with an automatic feeding device. This standard does not apply to saws designed for use with abrasive wheels. This standard does not apply to table saws with more than one spindle such as for a scoring blade. IEC 62841-2-22:2025 applies to hand-held cut-off machines fitted with
- one bonded reinforced wheel of Type 41 or Type 42; or
- one or more diamond cutting wheels with peripheral gaps, if any,
• having no positive rake angle; and
• not exceeding 10 mm for cut-off machines other than flush cutters, power cutters and wall chasers; and with
- a rated no-load speed not exceeding a peripheral speed of the wheel of 100 m/s at rated capacity; and
- a rated capacity not exceeding 430 mm.
NOTE 101 An example of a permitted diamond cutting wheel construction is shown in Figure 106.
These tools are intended to cut materials such as metals, concrete, masonry, glass and tile.

IEC 62841-4-8:2025 specifies safety requirements and their verification for the design and construction of hand fed, shredders/chippers with an integral electric motor, with or without vacuum assisted collection, which are designed to reduce organic material to smaller pieces and are used in a stationary position by an operator standing on the ground. This document applies to shredders/chippers with feed intake openings or feed safety openings that in total will fit into a square of 250 mm x 250 mm.
NOTE 101 The requirements for the measurement of the square of 250 mm x 250 mm are specified in 19.101.1.
In this document, shredders/chippers are referred to collectively as machine(s).
This document does not cover requirements for
- machines powered by combustion engines; or
- machines driven by an external power source; or

This document does not apply to
– hand-held machines having a mass of 18 kg or greater;
– self-propelled lawn trimmers or lawn edge trimmers;
– scissors type lawn trimmers and lawn edge trimmers;
– machines equipped with metallic cutting accessories consisting of more than one piece, e.g. pivoting chains or flail blades;
– edgers with rigid and/or metallic cutting devices.
Annex EE provides an informative summary of characteristics for lawn trimmers, lawn edge trimmers, grass trimmers, brush cutters and brush saws.
Brush cutters and brush saws covered by this document are designed only to be operated with the machine to the right of the operator.

IEC 62841-3-14:2017 applies to transportable drain cleaners. The rated voltage is not more than 250 V for single-phase a.c. or d.c. tools, and 480 V for three-phase a.c. tools. The rated input is not more than 3 700 W. The limits for the applicability of this standard for battery tools are given in Annex K. This standard deals with the hazards presented by tools which are encountered by all persons in the normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of the tools. Hand-held electric tools, which can be mounted on a support or working stand for use as fixed tools without any alteration of the tool itself, are within the scope of this standard and such combination of a hand-held tool and a support is considered to be a transportable tool and thus covered by the relevant Part 3.
Drain cleaners are also known as pipe cleaners.
This standard does not apply to hand-held drain cleaners. Hand-held drain cleaners are covered by IEC 62841-2-21.
This standard does not apply to high pressure cleaners to clean drains. High pressure cleaners are covered by IEC 60335-2-79.
This standard does not apply to machines that use a solid rod to clean drains
This Part 3-14 is to be used in conjunction with the first edition of IEC 62841-1:2014.
The attention of National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing organizations may need a transitional period following publication of a new, amended or revised IEC publication in which to make products in accordance with the new requirements and to equip themselves for conducting new or revised tests.
It is the recommendation of the committee that the content of this publication be adopted for implementation nationally not earlier than 36 months from the date of publication.

IEC 62841-4-4: 2024 Amendment 1

IEC 62841-3-8: 2024 applies to transportable single spindle vertical moulders, with a maximum tool holder diameter of 200 mm, designed to cut wood and analogue materials also covered with plastic laminate or edgings by hand-feed operation.
NOTE 101 Single spindle vertical moulders other than transportable are covered by ISO 19085-6:2024.

IEC 62841-3-11:2024 applies to transportable combined mitre and bench saws intended to be used with a toothed saw blade for cutting wood and analogous materials, plastics and nonferrous metals except magnesium with a saw blade diameter not exceeding 315 mm, which hereinafter is simply referred to as saw or tool.
This document does not apply to:
- saws intended to cut other metals, such as magnesium, steel and iron, or food;
- saws with an automatic feeding device;
- saws designed for use with abrasive wheels;
- saws designed for use with dado blades;
- single function bench or table saws;
- single function mitre saws;
- combined mitre and bench saws other than transportable.
NOTE 101 Transportable saws intended to cut ferrous metals will be covered by a future part of IEC 62841-3.
