IEC 62841-4-9:2026 applies to rechargeable battery-powered motor-operated chain saws for tree service, hereinafter referred to as chain saws or machines, having a maximum mass of 5,0 kg. The mass includes the heaviest detachable battery pack(s), if any, as described in IEC 62841-1:2014, K.8.14.2 e) 2), but excludes the guide bar, saw chain and saw chain lubricant. Chain saws covered by this document are intended to be used for pruning and dismantling standing tree crowns.
The chain saws covered by this document are designed only to be operated with the right hand on the rear handle and the left hand on the front handle.
This document does not apply to
– chain saws supplied by mains power or power from non-isolated sources that permit the machine to be used while connected to such power supplies; or
– chain saws supplied by integral batteries; or
– chain saws for cutting wood as covered by IEC 62841-4-1; or
– chain saws designed for use in conjunction with a guide-plate and riving knife or in any other way such as with a support or as a stationary or transportable machine; or
– pole-mounted pruners; or
NOTE 1 Pole-mounted pruners are covered by IEC 62841-4-10.

The maximum rated voltage for machines and battery packs is 75 V d.c.
Battery machines covered by this document are not considered to be class I tools, class II tools or class III tools and therefore are not required to have basic insulation, supplementary insulation or reinforced insulation. Electric shock hazard is considered to exist only between parts of opposite polarity.
This document deals with the hazards presented by machines which are encountered by all persons in the normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of the machines.
When evaluating a rechargeable battery pack for protection against electric shock during charging, creepage distances, clearances and distances through insulation, the relevant requirements of this document are applicable with the battery pack fitted to the intended charger.
Since rechargeable battery packs for machines are submitted to different use patterns (such as rough use, high charging and discharging currents), their safety can be evaluated only by this document and not by using other standards for rechargeable battery packs, such as IEC 62133-1:2017 or IEC 62133-2:2017, unless otherwise indicated in this document. All relevant aspects related to the safety of rechargeable batteries are addressed in this document, such that the requirements of IEC 62133-1:2017 or IEC 62133-2:2017 are not required to be separately applied.
When evaluating the risk of fire associated with rechargeable battery packs for machines, consideration has been given to the fact that these battery packs are unattended energy sources and have been evaluated as such in this document. Requirements in other standards regarding the risk of fire due to the charging of these battery packs are therefore considered to be fulfilled.
This document also addresses requirements covering the use of lithium-ion cells employed in battery systems in machines. The following is considered within the context of these requirements:

1 Scope
Replacement:
This part of IEC 62841 applies to rechargeable battery-powered motor-operated chain saws
for tree service, hereinafter referred to as chain saws or machines, having a maximum mass
of 5,0 kg. The mass includes the heaviest detachable battery pack(s), if any, as described in
IEC 62841-1:2014, K.8.14.2 e) 2), but excludes the guide bar, saw chain and saw chain
lubricant. Chain saws covered by this document are intended to be used for pruning and
dismantling standing tree crowns.
The chain saws covered by this document are designed only to be operated with the right hand
on the rear handle and the left hand on the front handle.
This document does not apply to
– chain saws supplied by mains power or power from non-isolated sources that permit the
machine to be used while connected to such power supplies; or
– chain saws supplied by integral batteries; or
– chain saws for cutting wood as covered by IEC 62841-4-1; or
– chain saws designed for use in conjunction with a guide-plate and riving knife or in any other
way such as with a support or as a stationary or transportable machine; or
– pole-mounted pruners; or
NOTE 1 Pole-mounted pruners are covered by IEC 62841-4-10.
– pruning saws.
NOTE 2 Pruning saws will be covered by a future part of IEC 62841-4.
The maximum rated voltage for machines and battery packs is 75 V d.c.
Battery machines covered by this document are not considered to be class I tools, class II
tools or class III tools and therefore are not required to have basic insulation,
supplementary insulation or reinforced insulation. Electric shock hazard is considered to
exist only between parts of opposite polarity.
This document deals with the hazards presented by machines which are encountered by all
persons in the normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of the machines.
When evaluating a rechargeable battery pack for protection against electric shock during
charging, creepage distances, clearances and distances through insulation, the relevant
requirements of this document are applicable with the battery pack fitted to the intended
charger.
Since rechargeable battery packs for machines are submitted to different use patterns (such
as rough use, high charging and discharging currents), their safety can be evaluated only by
this document and not by using other standards for rechargeable battery packs, such as
IEC 62133-1:2017 or IEC 62133-2:2017, unless otherwise indicated in this document. All
relevant aspects related to the safety of rechargeable batteries are addressed in this document,
such that the requirements of IEC 62133-1:2017 or IEC 62133-2:2017 are not required to be
separately applied.
When evaluating the risk of fire associated with rechargeable battery packs for machines,
consideration has been given to the fact that these battery packs are unattended energy
sources and have been evaluated as such in this document. Requirements in other standards
regarding the risk of fire due to the charging of these battery packs are therefore considered
to be fulfilled.
This document also addresses requirements covering the use of lithium-ion cells employed in
battery systems in machines. The following is considered within the context of these
requirements:
– These requirements address the risk of fire or explosion of these batteries and not any
possible hazards associated with toxicity nor potential hazards associated with
transportation or disposal.
NOTE 3 IEC 62281:2019 covers the safety aspects of lithium-ion batteries during transport.
– Battery systems covered by these requirements are not intended to be serviced by the end
user.
– These requirements are intended to provide comprehensive evaluation of a battery only if
used in products covered by this document.
– These requirements address the safety of lithium-ion battery systems during storage and
use including discharge and charge. These requirements are only considered to be
supplementary requirements in regard to battery charger fire and electric shock.
– These requirements refer to and require parameters supplied in reference to the cells that
establish conditions for safe use of those cells. Those parameters form the basis of
acceptance criteria for a number of tests contained herein. This document does not
independently evaluate the safety of cells. These parameters, taken as a set, constitute the
"specified operating region" for a cell. There can be several sets of specified operating
region(s).
This document does not apply to machines using general purpose batteries installed by the
user and this document alone will not be sufficient to ensure that all hazards are considered for
these products.
This document does not apply to the safety of battery chargers themselves.

I.2 Noise test code (grade 2)
IEC 62841-1:2014, Clause I.2 and IEC 62841-1:2014/AMD1:2025, Clause I.2 are applicable,
except as follows:
I.2.2.1 General
Replacement:
The sound power level shall be measured using a hemispherical measurement surface
according to Figure I.101 and ISO 3744:2010. The acoustic environment, instrumentation,
quantities to be measured, quantities to be determined, and the measurement procedure are
specified in ISO 3744:2010.
The sound power level shall be given as A-weighted sound power level in dB reference 1 pW.
The A-weighted sound pressure levels, from which the sound power is to be determined, shall
be measured directly, and not calculated from frequency band data. Measurements shall be
made outdoors or indoors in an essentially free field.
NOTE In Europe (EN IEC 62841-4-9), the A-weighted measured and guaranteed sound power levels L are

I.2.2.4 Lawn and garden machinery
Replacement:
The test environment outdoors shall be a flat open space (a slope, if any, not exceeding 5/100),
visibly free of sound-reflecting objects (buildings, trees, poles, sign boards, etc.) within a
circular area with a radius equal to approximately three times the radius of the hemispherical
measurement surface used.
For the determination of the A-weighted sound power level, ISO 3744:2010 shall be used
subject to the following modifications:
– the microphone array shall be six microphone positions according to Figure I.101 and
Table I.101;
– for outdoor and indoor measurements, the reflecting surface shall be replaced by an artificial
surface according to I.2.2.101 or a natural ground surface according to I.2.2.102.
Reproducibility of results using natural grass or other organic material is likely to be worse
than that required for grade 2 of accuracy. In case of dispute, measurements shall be carried
out in the open air and on the artificial surface according to I.2.2.101;
– the measurement surface shall be a hemisphere with a radius r = 4 m;
– for measurements outdoors, K = 0;

– for measurements outdoors, the environmental conditions shall be within the limits specified
by the manufacturers of the measuring equipment. The ambient air temperature shall be in

I.2.2.101 Requirements for an artificial surface
The artificial surface shall have absorption coefficients as given in Table I.102, measured in
accordance with ISO 354:2003.

The artificial surface shall be placed on a hard, reflecting surface and have a size of at least
3,6 m × 3,6 m. It shall be placed so that its geometrical centre coincides with the origin of the
coordinate system of the microphone positions. The construction of the supporting structure
shall be such that the requirements for the acoustic properties are also met with the absorptive
material in place. The structure shall support the weight of an operator when positioning the
machine on the structure and the weight of the machine to avoid compression of the absorbing
material.
NOTE See Annex CC for an example of a material and construction which can be expected to fulfil these
requirements.
I.2.2.102 Requirements for natural ground surface
The ground at the centre of the test site shall be flat and have good sound-absorbing properties.
The surface shall be either forest ground or grass, with the grass or other organic material
having a height of (50 ± 20) mm.
I.2.3 Emission sound pressure level determination

I.2.3.3 Lawn and garden machinery

The emission sound pressure for the chain saw shall be determined in accordance with I.2.3.1.
NOTE A chain saw is used in a similar way to hand-held tools, without a uniquely defined workstation. The sound
pressure at a distance of 0,7 m from the machine is applicable.
I.2.4 Installation and mounting conditions of the power tools during noise tests
Replacement:
The machine under test shall be new and equipped with attachments which affect the acoustic
properties, as specified in K.8.14.2.
The installation and mounting conditions for A-weighted sound power level measurement shall
be in accordance with ISO 22868:2021, Clause A.1 and Clause A.2, as far as applicable to
electric chain saws.
Tests shall be conducted without the use of an operator.

I.2.5.1 General
Measurements shall be carried out on a new machine.
Care shall be taken that the location of the test timber on its support in accordance with
ISO 22868:2021, Figure A.1 does not adversely affect the result of the test.
During measurements, the machine shall operate under stable conditions. Once the noise
emission is steady, the measurement time interval shall be at least 15 s. If measurements are
to be made in octave or one-third octave frequency bands, the minimum period of observation
shall be 30 s for the frequency bands centred on or below 160 Hz, and 15 s for the frequency
bands centred on or above 200 Hz.
I.2.5.2 Chain saws are operated to warm them up for 5 min at no-load. Afterwards, the battery
is replaced with a fully charged battery. The chain saw shall be tested using a saw chain and
the longest guide bar combination(s) as specified in K.8.14.2 a) under both of the following
conditions:
– no-load speed with the highest setting of the speed control, if any. In this test mode, the
machine shall be operated without the test timber; and
– at maximum speed by applying, if necessary, an adjustable load by means of a water brake
(or equivalent) as specified in ISO 22868:2021, A.2.1, which is increased starting from zero
(no-load) until the maximum speed is achieved. In this test mode, the machine shall be
operated with the test timber.
NOTE The use of the adjustable load is only necessary for machines where the maximum speed occurs under
load. For machines where the maximum speed occurs at no-load, the application of an adjustable load is not
necessary.
Four consecutive A-weighted sound power level tests at no-load speed and four at maximum
speed shall be carried out. The resulting A-weighted sound power level L is calculated by:

1 Domaine d'application
Remplacement:
La présente partie de l'IEC 62841 s'applique aux scies à chaîne pour l'élagage des arbres à
moteur alimentées par des batteries rechargeables, ci-après dénommées scies à chaîne ou
machines, d'une masse maximale de 5,0 kg. La masse comprend le plus lourd du ou des blocs
de batteries amovibles, le cas échéant, tels qu'ils sont décrits dans l'IEC 62841-1:2014,
K.8.14.2 e) 2), mais exclut le guide-chaîne, la chaîne coupante et le lubrifiant de la chaîne
coupante. Les scies à chaîne couvertes par le présent document sont destinées à être utilisées
pour élaguer et tailler les parties supérieures des arbres sur pied.
Les scies à chaîne couvertes par le présent document sont conçues uniquement pour être
utilisées avec la main droite sur la poignée arrière et la main gauche sur la poignée avant.
Le présent document ne s'applique pas
– aux scies à chaîne alimentées par le secteur ou par des sources non isolées qui permettent
d'utiliser la machine lorsqu'elle est connectée à ces sources d'alimentation; ou
– aux scies à chaîne alimentées par des batteries non amovibles; ou
– aux scies à chaîne pour la découpe du bois, telles qu'elles sont spécifiées dans
l'IEC 62841-4-1; ou
– aux scies à chaîne conçues pour être utilisées conjointement avec un guide-chaîne et une
fendeuse ou de toute autre manière (avec un support ou en tant que machine fixe ou
portable, par exemple); ou
– aux élagueuses sur perche; ou
NOTE 1 Les élagueuses sur perche sont couvertes par l'IEC 62841-4-10.
– aux scies d'élagage.
NOTE 2 Les scies d'élagage seront couvertes par une partie ultérieure de l'IEC 62841-4.
La tension assignée maximale des machines et des blocs de batteries est de 75 V en courant
continu.
Les machines qui fonctionnent sur batteries couvertes par le présent document ne sont pas
considérées comme des outils de la classe I, de la classe II ou de la classe III et ne doivent
donc pas avoir une isolation principale, une isolation supplémentaire ou une isolation
renforcée. Le danger de choc électrique n'existe qu'entre des parties de polarité opposée.
Le présent document traite des dangers présentés par les machines, encourus par tous les
individus dans l'utilisation normale et dans l'utilisation impropre raisonnablement prévisible
de ces machines.
Lors de l'évaluation d'un bloc de batteries rechargeables pour la protection contre les chocs
électriques pendant la charge, les lignes de fuite, les distances d'isolement et les distances
à travers l'isolation, les exigences pertinentes du présent document s'appliquent au bloc de
batteries monté sur le chargeur prévu.
Les blocs de batteries rechargeables des machines étant soumis à différentes méthodes
d'utilisation (telles que l'utilisation intensive, les courants de haute charge et de décharge), leur
sécurité peut être évaluée uniquement à l'aide du présent document et non des autres normes
relatives aux blocs de batteries rechargeables, telles que l'IEC 62133-1:2017 ou
l'IEC 62133-2:2017, sauf spécification contraire dans le présent document. Tous les aspects
pertinents liés à la sécurité des batteries rechargeables sont traités dans le présent document,
de sorte qu'il n'est pas nécessaire d'appliquer séparément les exigences de l'IEC 62133-1:2017
ou de l'IEC 62133-2:2017.
Lors de l'évaluation du risque de feu associé aux blocs de batteries rechargeables pour les
machines, il a été pris en considération le fait que ces blocs de batteries sont des sources
d'énergie fonctionnant sans surveillance et ont été évalués comme tels dans le présent
document. Les exigences des autres normes relatives au risque de feu associé au chargement
de ces blocs de batteries sont donc considérées comme respectées.
Le présent document couvre également les exigences relatives à l'utilisation d'éléments
lithium-ion utilisés dans les systèmes de batterie des machines. Dans le contexte de ces
exigences, les éléments suivants sont admis:
– Ces exigences traitent du risque de feu ou d'explosion de ces batteries et non des dangers
éventuels associés à la toxicité ou des dangers potentiels associés au transport ou à la
mise au rebut.
NOTE 3 L'IEC 62281:2019 couvre les aspects de sécurité des batteries lithium-ion pendant le transport.
– Les systèmes de batterie couverts par ces exigences ne sont pas destinés à être
entretenus par l'utilisateur final.
– Ces exigences ne sont destinées à permettre une évaluation complète d'une batterie que
si celle-ci est utilisée dans des produits couverts par le présent document.
– Ces exigences couvrent la sécurité des systèmes de batterie lithium-ion au cours du
stockage et de l'utilisation, y compris la décharge et la charge. Ces exigences ne sont
considérées que comme des exigences supplémentaires pour le feu et le choc électrique
du chargeur de batterie.
– Ces exigences font référence aux paramètres qui établissent des conditions d'utilisation en
toute sécurité pour les éléments; ces paramètres sont exigés. Ils constituent la base des
critères d'acceptation pour plusieurs essais indiqués dans le présent document. Le présent
document n'évalue pas indépendamment la sécurité des éléments. Ces paramètres,
considérés comme un ensemble, représentent la "région de fonctionnement spécifiée"
pour un élément. Il peut y avoir plusieurs ensembles de régions de fonctionnement
spécifiées.
Le présent document ne s'applique pas aux machines qui utilisent des batteries d'usage
général installées par l'utilisateur et le présent document à lui seul n'est pas suffisant pour
assurer que tous les dangers concernant ces produits sont pris en considération.
Le présent document ne s'applique pas à la sécurité des chargeurs de batterie.

I.2 Code d'essai acoustique (classe 2)
L'Article I.2 de l'IEC 62841-1:2014 et l'Article I.2 de l'IEC 62841-1:2014/AMD1:2025
s'appliquent, avec les exceptions suivantes:
I.2.2.1 Généralités
Remplacement:
Le niveau de puissance acoustique doit être mesuré à l'aide d'une surface de mesure
hémisphérique selon la Figure I.101 et l'ISO 3744:2010. L'environnement acoustique,
l'instrumentation, les grandeurs à mesurer, les grandeurs à déterminer et la procédure de
mesurage sont spécifiés dans l'ISO 3744:2010.
Le niveau de puissance acoustique doit être indiqué comme niveau de puissance acoustique
pondéré A en dB pour 1 pW. Les niveaux de pression acoustique pondérés A, à partir desquels
doit être déterminée la puissance acoustique, doivent être mesurés directement et ne doivent
pas être calculés à partir des données de la bande de fréquence. Les mesurages doivent être
réalisés en extérieur ou en intérieur dans des conditions qui approchent celles du champ libre.
NOTE En Europe (EN IEC 62841-4-9), les niveaux de puissance acoustique pondérés A mesurés et garantis L

sont déterminés selon la Directive européenne 2000/14/CE et ses amendements.

I.2.2.2 Outils électriques portatifs

I.2.2.4 Machines pour jardins et pelouses
Remplacement:
L'environnement d'essai extérieur doit être un espace ouvert plat (toute pente, le cas échéant,
ne dépassant pas 5/100), visiblement exempt d'objets qui réfléchissent le son (bâtiments,
arbres, poteaux, panneaux de signalisation, etc.) dans une zone circulaire de rayon égal à
environ trois fois celui de la surface de mesure hémisphérique utilisée.
Pour déterminer le niveau de puissance acoustique pondéré A, l'ISO 3744:2010 doit être
utilisée avec les modifications suivantes:
– le réseau de microphones doit comprendre six positions de microphones conformément à
la Figure I.101 et au Tableau I.101;
– pour les mesurages en extérieur et en intérieur, la surface réfléchissante doit être remplacée
par une surface artificielle conforme au I.2.2.101 ou par une surface de sol naturel conforme
au I.2.2.102. La reproductibilité des résultats à l'aide de gazon naturel ou de toute autre
matière organique est susceptible d'être plus défavorable que celle exigée pour la classe
d'exactitude 2. En cas de litige, les mesurages doivent être effectués en plein air sur la
surface artificielle conforme au I.2.2.101;
– la surface de mesure doit être un hémisphère de rayon, r = 4 m;
– pour les mesurages en extérieur, K = 0;

– pour les mesurages en extérieur, les conditions d'environnement doivent se trouver dans
les limites spécifiées par les fabricants des équipements de mesure. La plage de
températures ambiantes doit être comprise entre −10 °C et 40 °C, et la vitesse du vent doit
être inférieure à 5 m/s. Un écran antivent doit être utilisé lorsque la vitesse du vent dépasse
1 m/s;
– pour les mesurages en intérieur, l'environnement doit être conforme à l'ISO 3744:2010 et la

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as "IEC Publication(s)"). Their

1 Scope
Replacement:
This part of IEC 62841 applies to rechargeable battery-powered motor-operated chain saws
for tree service, hereinafter referred to as chain saws or machines, having a maximum mass
of 5,0 kg. The mass includes the heaviest detachable battery pack(s), if any, as described in
IEC 62841-1:2014, K.8.14.2 e) 2), but excludes the guide bar, saw chain and saw chain
lubricant. Chain saws covered by this document are intended to be used for pruning and
dismantling standing tree crowns.
The chain saws covered by this document are designed only to be operated with the right hand
on the rear handle and the left hand on the front handle.
This document does not apply to
– chain saws supplied by mains power or power from non-isolated sources that permit the
machine to be used while connected to such power supplies; or
– chain saws supplied by integral batteries; or
– chain saws for cutting wood as covered by IEC 62841-4-1; or
– chain saws designed for use in conjunction with a guide-plate and riving knife or in any other
way such as with a support or as a stationary or transportable machine; or
– pole-mounted pruners; or
NOTE 1 Pole-mounted pruners are covered by IEC 62841-4-10.
– pruning saws.
NOTE 2 Pruning saws will be covered by a future part of IEC 62841-4.
The maximum rated voltage for machines and battery packs is 75 V d.c.
Battery machines covered by this document are not considered to be class I tools, class II
tools or class III tools and therefore are not required to have basic insulation,
supplementary insulation or reinforced insulation. Electric shock hazard is considered to
exist only between parts of opposite polarity.
This document deals with the hazards presented by machines which are encountered by all
persons in the normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse of the machines.
When evaluating a rechargeable battery pack for protection against electric shock during
charging, creepage distances, clearances and distances through insulation, the relevant
requirements of this document are applicable with the battery pack fitted to the intended
charger.
Since rechargeable battery packs for machines are submitted to different use patterns (such
as rough use, high charging and discharging currents), their safety can be evaluated only by
this document and not by using other standards for rechargeable battery packs, such as
IEC 62133-1:2017 or IEC 62133-2:2017, unless otherwise indicated in this document. All
relevant aspects related to the safety of rechargeable batteries are addressed in this document,
such that the requirements of IEC 62133-1:2017 or IEC 62133-2:2017 are not required to be
separately applied.
When evaluating the risk of fire associated with rechargeable battery packs for machines,
consideration has been given to the fact that these battery packs are unattended energy
sources and have been evaluated as such in this document. Requirements in other standards
regarding the risk of fire due to the charging of these battery packs are therefore considered
to be fulfilled.
This document also addresses requirements covering the use of lithium-ion cells employed in
battery systems in machines. The following is considered within the context of these
requirements:
– These requirements address the risk of fire or explosion of these batteries and not any
possible hazards associated with toxicity nor potential hazards associated with
transportation or disposal.
NOTE 3 IEC 62281:2019 covers the safety aspects of lithium-ion batteries during transport.
– Battery systems covered by these requirements are not intended to be serviced by the end
user.
– These requirements are intended to provide comprehensive evaluation of a battery only if
used in products covered by this document.
– These requirements address the safety of lithium-ion battery systems during storage and
use including discharge and charge. These requirements are only considered to be
supplementary requirements in regard to battery charger fire and electric shock.
– These requirements refer to and require parameters supplied in reference to the cells that
establish conditions for safe use of those cells. Those parameters form the basis of
acceptance criteria for a number of tests contained herein. This document does not
independently evaluate the safety of cells. These parameters, taken as a set, constitute the
"specified operating region" for a cell. There can be several sets of specified operating
region(s).
This document does not apply to machines using general purpose batteries installed by the
user and this document alone will not be sufficient to ensure that all hazards are considered for
these products.
This document does not apply to the safety of battery chargers themselves.

I.2 Noise test code (grade 2)
IEC 62841-1:2014, Clause I.2 and IEC 62841-1:2014/AMD1:2025, Clause I.2 are applicable,
except as follows:
I.2.2.1 General
Replacement:
The sound power level shall be measured using a hemispherical measurement surface
according to Figure I.101 and ISO 3744:2010. The acoustic environment, instrumentation,
quantities to be measured, quantities to be determined, and the measurement procedure are
specified in ISO 3744:2010.
The sound power level shall be given as A-weighted sound power level in dB reference 1 pW.
The A-weighted sound pressure levels, from which the sound power is to be determined, shall
be measured directly, and not calculated from frequency band data. Measurements shall be
made outdoors or indoors in an essentially free field.
NOTE In Europe (EN IEC 62841-4-9), the A-weighted measured and guaranteed sound power levels L are

I.2.2.4 Lawn and garden machinery
Replacement:
The test environment outdoors shall be a flat open space (a slope, if any, not exceeding 5/100),
visibly free of sound-reflecting objects (buildings, trees, poles, sign boards, etc.) within a
circular area with a radius equal to approximately three times the radius of the hemispherical
measurement surface used.
For the determination of the A-weighted sound power level, ISO 3744:2010 shall be used
subject to the following modifications:
– the microphone array shall be six microphone positions according to Figure I.101 and
Table I.101;
– for outdoor and indoor measurements, the reflecting surface shall be replaced by an artificial
surface according to I.2.2.101 or a natural ground surface according to I.2.2.102.
Reproducibility of results using natural grass or other organic material is likely to be worse
than that required for grade 2 of accuracy. In case of dispute, measurements shall be carried
out in the open air and on the artificial surface according to I.2.2.101;
– the measurement surface shall be a hemisphere with a radius r = 4 m;
– for measurements outdoors, K = 0;

– for measurements outdoors, the environmental conditions shall be within the limits specified
by the manufacturers of the measuring equipment. The ambient air temperature shall be in
the range from −10 °C to 40 °C and the wind speed shall be less than 5 m/s. A wind screen

I.2.2.101 Requirements for an artificial surface
The artificial surface shall have absorption coefficients as given in Table I.102, measured in
accordance with ISO 354:2003.

The artificial surface shall be placed on a hard, reflecting surface and have a size of at least
3,6 m × 3,6 m. It shall be placed so that its geometrical centre coincides with the origin of the
coordinate system of the microphone positions. The construction of the supporting structure
shall be such that the requirements for the acoustic properties are also met with the absorptive
material in place. The structure shall support the weight of an operator when positioning the
machine on the structure and the weight of the machine to avoid compression of the absorbing
material.
NOTE See Annex CC for an example of a material and construction which can be expected to fulfil these
requirements.
I.2.2.102 Requirements for natural ground surface
The ground at the centre of the test site shall be flat and have good sound-absorbing properties.
The surface shall be either forest ground or grass, with the grass or other organic material
having a height of (50 ± 20) mm.
I.2.3 Emission sound pressure level determination
I.2.3.1 Hand-held tools
