CEN/TC 33/WG 1/2 - Windows and doors
To establish standards regarding windows.
Windows and doors
To establish standards regarding windows.
General Information
This document specifies the test method, safety requirements and classification when determining the effect on a complete window or pedestrian doorset impacted with a soft and heavy body. Any secondary moving sashes, casements, leaves, mullions, transoms, T-connectors or fixed lights which can be mounted internally to the main casements or sashes, are intended to also be similarly tested and evaluated for the classification for the complete product.
The test applies to all types of infill of whatever materials including glass. It is not intended to classify the strength of the glass when used as an infill. It is intended to assess the interactions between all components of a window with particular regard to safety in use. It is also applicable to assess the ability of a doorset to keep in place glazed parts.
NOTE 1 The test method is aimed for glazed pedestrian doorsets with injury risk, but can also be used for other types of pedestrian doorsets if requested by the client.
NOTE 2 The test has been devised to suit all window or pedestrian doorset types, configurations and materials.
NOTE 3 For the classification of glass see EN 12600.

This document gives the tolerance limits for specified dimensions of height, width and thickness, and for squareness of door leaves. It applies to door leaves which are supplied without, and independent of, any frames. It does not apply to the leaves of doorsets.
NOTE Compliance with the tolerance limits given in this document does not imply that this would necessarily produce a perfect fit between door leaves and frames

This European Standard identifies material independent performance characteristics, except resistance to fire and smoke control characteristics, which are applicable to internal pedestrian doorsets.
Fire resisting and/or smoke control characteristics for pedestrian doorsets and openable windows are covered by EN 16034.
This European Standard applies to doorsets intended to be used internally for construction works as:
- intended use a) in escape routes;
- intended use b) for specific uses with specific requirements;
- intended use c) for communication only.
NOTE 1 These above intended uses can be combined, for example escape routes with specific requirements.
For internal pedestrian doorsets with resistance to fire and /or smoke control characteristics, this standard should only apply in conjunction with EN 16034.
Products covered by this European Standard are power operated hinged or manually operated internal pedestrian doorsets and screens with flush or panelled leaves, single or double leaf, which could be completed with:
- related building hardware;
- door closing devices;
- integral fanlights;
- adjacent parts that are contained within a single frame for inclusion in a single aperture.
NOTE 2 Manually operated doors with door closing devices are not considered to be power operated doors.
Products covered by this European Standard are not assessed for structural applications.
This European Standard does not apply to:
- industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates according to EN 13241;
- external pedestrian doorsets according to EN 14351-1;
- door leaves placed on the market as a single unit;
- door frames placed on the market as a single unit;
- power operated pedestrian doorsets, other than swing type, according to EN 16361.
Doorsets can be placed on the market with their component (leaf and frame) separate when each of these components are clearly identified.
This European Standard does not deal with any specific requirements on noise emitted from internal power operated hinged doorsets as their noise emission is not considered to be a relevant hazard.

This European Standard specifies the test methods for evaluating:
- the risks of decay of openable and fixed windows manufactured of different materials through increased moisture accumulation as a result of condensation or water vapour diffusion;
- the influence of deformation on basic performances of openable and fixed windows manufactured of different materials exposed to different climates between their external and internal faces.
Three test methods are to be differentiated. They take into account different cases of loadings.
- Test method 1: For designs with low resistance to water vapour diffusion (normally designs with water vapour equalization holes); the test procedure is to be used for cross-sections where the danger is given by the moisture accumulation as a result of the condensation of moisture between the planking and the timber (see Annex A (informative), Figure A.1).
- Test method 2.1 and 2.2: For designs with high resistance to water vapour diffusion (normally designs without water vapour equalization holes); the test procedure is to be used for cross-sections where the danger is given by the condensation of the moisture between the surface of the inner profile and the inner surface of the outer profile by having a different water vapour diffusion (see Annex A (informative), Figures A.2 and A.3).
- Test method 3: For designs being sensitive to deformation; the test procedure is to be used for cross-sections where they are sensitive to the function through deformation as a result of climatic loading.
This European Standard defines the test procedures which are to be used in dependence of the potential risk of the design.
This European Standard is relevant to initial type testing, i. e. to developments or changes in designs. It is not relevant to routine quality control or to proven designs.
NOTE Designs are included in Annex A (informative). Annex B (normative) is the survey of general design criteria where tests are not necessary.

This European Standard applies to:
- Manually or power operated windows, French windows and screens for installation in vertical wall aper-tures and roof windows for installation in inclined roofs, complete with:
- related hardware, if any;
- weather stripping, if any;
- glazed apertures when intended to have glazed apertures;
- with or without incorporated shutters and/or shutterboxes and/or blinds;
and manually or power operated windows, roof windows, French windows and screens that are
- fully or partially glazed including any non-transparent infill;
- fixed or partly fixed or openable with one or more casements/sashes (e.g. hinged, projecting, pivoted, sliding).
- Manually operated external pedestrian doorsets with flush or panelled leaves, complete with:
- integral fanlights, if any;
- adjacent parts that are contained within a single frame for inclusion in a single aperture, if any.
The products covered by this European Standard are not assessed for structural applications.
This European Standard does not apply to:
- windows and pedestrian doorsets subject to regulations on smoke leakage and resistance to fire according to prEN 14351-3 but individual characteristics and performance requirements given in clause 4 can be relevant for these doors and windows (see prEN 14351-3);
- rooflights according to EN 1873 and prEN 14963;
- curtain walling according to EN 13830;
- industrial, commercial and garage doors and gates according to EN 13241-1;

This Standard defines the method of test, requirements and classification when determining the effect on a window impacted with a soft and heavy body. Any secondary moving sashes casements or fixed lights which may be mounted internally to the main casements or sashes, shall also be similarly tested. The test applies to all infillings of whatever materials including glass. The test has been devised to suit all window types, configurations and materials.
