   Türblätter, die Flüssigkeiten mit einem pH-Wert unter 5,5 oder über 8,5 ausgesetzt sind;

   aux vantaux de portes exposés à des liquides ayant une valeur de pH inférieure à 5,5 ou supérieure à 8,5 ;
   aux dormants de portes, bloc-portes ou assemblages de portes complets.

Okna in vrata - Vratna krila, odporna proti vlagi in pršenju vode - Preskusi in razvrščanje

Overview

EN 16580:2015 is a European Standard established by the Committee for European Normalization (CEN) that defines the test methods and classification criteria for door leaves used in pedestrian doors subject to prolonged wetness and/or frequent splash water exposure. This standard applies irrespective of the door leaf material but excludes doors exposed to liquids with pH values outside 5.5 to 8.5, door frames, complete door assemblies, or doorsets.

The standard is crucial for ensuring durability and performance of door leaves, especially in applications where cleaning and splash water exposure are frequent, such as healthcare environments or industrial settings. It addresses the need for doors that withstand rigorous environmental and hygiene demands without compromising usability or aesthetics.

Key Topics

  • Scope and Applicability
EN 16580:2015 applies specifically to pedestrian door leaves exposed to wetness or splash water but excludes exposure to rain or aggressive liquids with extreme pH values.

  • Test Procedures
The standard outlines detailed testing cycles involving spraying door leaves with water and evaluating their resilience. Two load classes are defined:

    • Wetness Door Leaf (Load Class W): 48 cycles with short spray intervals and cooler water temperature.
    • Splash Water Proof Door Leaf (Load Class S): 96 cycles with longer spray intervals, warmer water, and an additional post-test water dipping.
  • Test Rig and Setup
A specially designed vertical test rig equipped with full cone nozzles simulates splash water exposure. The door leaf samples are mounted with all applicable hardware and sprayed according to precise nozzle distances and flow rates.

  • Performance Assessment
    Performance is measured by:

    • Thickness swelling (max. 0.5 mm allowed)
    • Surface and door skin damage (none visible)
    • Flatness and deformation (measured before, during, and after testing)
    • Visual checks for cracks, corrosion on hardware, swelling, and bonding defects
  • Classification and Reporting
Door leaves passing all criteria on three test specimens receive the classification of P(W) for wetness load or P(S) for splash water load. The test report documents the testing conditions, dimensions, materials, and any observed failures.

Applications

EN 16580:2015 is vital in industries and sectors where door leaves are frequently subjected to wet environments and aggressive cleaning cycles, helping manufacturers, contractors, and building managers to:

  • Select and Specify Durable Doors: Ensure door leaves maintain structural integrity and appearance despite exposure to water and humidity.
  • Ensure Hygienic Door Solutions: Particularly useful in hospitals, food processing plants, and laboratories requiring regular splash water cleaning.
  • Facilitate Quality Control: Manufacturers utilize this standard to validate product performance and compliance.
  • Improve Building Longevity: Minimizes risk of water-related damage to doors, reducing maintenance costs and service life replacement.
  • Support Regulatory Compliance: Assists in fulfilling European construction and hygiene regulations by certifying door leaf resistance to wetness and splash water.

Related Standards

Users integrating EN 16580:2015 into their specifications should consider these complementary standards to cover related performance aspects:

  • EN 951: Measurement methods for door leaf dimensions such as height, width, thickness, and squareness.
  • EN 952: Standards for general and local flatness measurements of door leaves.
  • EN 1027: Watertightness test methods for windows and doors.
  • EN 1294: Behaviour evaluation of door leaves under humidity variations.
  • EN 1670: Corrosion resistance requirements for building hardware.
  • EN 12219: Classification of doors under climatic influences.
  • EN 12519: Terminology for windows and pedestrian doors.

These standards together create a comprehensive framework for assessing and certifying door performance under diverse environmental conditions.

By adhering to EN 16580:2015, manufacturers and stakeholders gain confidence in the durability and reliability of pedestrian door leaves exposed to challenging wet conditions, ensuring functionality, safety, and aesthetic continuity even after extensive exposure to splash water and moisture.
