This document specifies all the information necessary to carry out efficiently and under standardized conditions the determination, declaration, and verification of the airborne noise emission of liquid pumps or pump units (see 4.1). It specifies the noise measurement methods and the operating and mounting conditions that shall be used for the test.
Noise emission characteristics include emission sound pressure levels at specified positions and the sound power level. The determination of these quantities is necessary for
— declaring the noise emission values, and
— purpose of noise control at source at the design stage.
The determination of these quantities is also necessary for comparing the noise emitted by liquid pumps on the market.
The use of this document ensures the reproducibility of the determination of the airborne noise-emission characteristics within specified limits determined by the grade of accuracy of the basic airborne noise measurement method used. Noise measurement methods according to this document are engineering methods (grade 2) and survey methods (grade 3).
This document does not deal with the characterization of the structure-borne sound and liquid-borne noise generated by liquid pumps.
NOTE This document is specified in EN 809+A1 for noise measurements of the pump (or pump unit).

This document describes a methodology to evaluate energy efficiency performance of pump units based on a non-dimensional numerical value called Energy Efficiency Index (EEI).
This document covers pump units consisting of:
- one single or several rotodynamic water pump(s), including where integrated in other products, and driven by a motor system, consisting of an electrical motor, and either:
- a terminal box which only enables to operate the pump unit at constant motor stator frequency and thereby (nearly) constant rotational speed, or
- a CDM (Complete Drive Module) which enables to operate the pump unit at variable rotational speed depending on a varying demand of flow rate and/or discharge or differential pressure.
NOTE A CDM is also often called VSD (Variable Speed Drive).
Pump units as defined above are treated as extended products in respect to their energy efficiency.

This document sets the requirements for conducting and reporting the results of a pumping system energy assessment (hereafter referenced as "assessment") that considers the entire pumping system, from energy inputs to the work performed as the result of these inputs.
The objective of a pumping system energy assessment is to determine the current energy consumption of an existing system and identify ways to improve system efficiency.
These requirements consist of
— organizing and conducting an assessment,
— analysing the data from the assessment, and
— reporting and documenting assessment findings.
This document is designed to be applied, to open and closed loop pumping systems typically used at industrial, institutional, commercial, and municipal facilities, when requested.
This document is focused on assessing electrically-driven pumping systems, which are dominant in most facilities, but is also applicable with other types of drivers, such as steam turbines and engines. The document does not
a) specify how to design a pumping system,
b) give detailed qualifications and expertise required of the person using the International Standard although provides a list of body of knowledge in Annex C,
c) address the training or certification of persons,
d) specify how to implement the recommendations developed during the assessment, but does include requirements for an action plan,
e) specify how to measure and validate the energy savings that result from implementing assessment recommendations,
f) specify how to make measurements and how to calibrate test equipment used during the assessment,
g) specify how to estimate the implementation cost or conduct financial analysis for recommendations developed during the assessment,
h) specify specific steps required for safe operation of equipment during the assessment. The facility personnel in charge of normal operation of the equipment are responsible for ensuring that it is operated safely during the data collection phase of the assessment,
i) address issues of intellectual property, security, confidentiality, and safety.

This European Standard establishes the technical safety requirements for:
- constructing;
- assembling;
- erecting;
- operating;
- servicing;
a liquid pump or pump unit. It contains a list of significant hazards, which can arise with the use of a liquid pump or pump unit, and establishes the requirements and/or protective measures which will lead to a reduction of the risks.
Liquid pumps covered by this European Standard are:
- rotodynamic pumps;
- rotary positive displacement pumps;
- reciprocating displacement pumps;
supplied separately without drive (electric motor or internal combustion engine).
In general, pumps are defined as being terminated by their inlet and outlet connections as well as by their shaft ends. Pumps supplied in this form are usually called bareshaft pumps. They are 'machines' in the definition of the Machinery Directive.
The assembly of a bareshaft pump with its driver can require measures that are outside the scope of this European Standard.
Pump units are described as:
Liquid pumps together with a driver and including transmission elements, baseplates, and any auxiliary equipment.
This European Standard does not deal either with the technical safety requirements for the design or manufacture of drivers nor of auxiliary equipment. It does not set down either requirements for the risks directly arising from means provided for the portability, transportability and mobility of pump units during or between periods of their operation, nor the requirements for transmission shafts linking a tractor or other
self-propelled machinery to a pump.
This European Standard does not cover pumps and pump units for the following applications:
- pumps and pump units whose only power source is directly applied manual effort;
- pumps and pump units for medical use used in direct contact with the patient;
- pumps and pump units specially designed or put into service for nuclear purposes which, in the event of failure, can result in an emiss

This CEN Technical Report lays down stipulations relating to installation conditions for sudden change in section or direction (elbows, tee fittings, junctions) and the most widely used accessories at the inlet and outlet of pumps (valves and fittings) in order to minimise the effect of disturbances in the flow of liquid thereby created upstream and downstream from the pump and on the operation of the pump.
NOTE 1 The recommendations given in this document permit to solve a majority of the most current cases.
These recommendations relate to three aspects of installation:
the fitting of the pump to pipework by convergent and divergent pipes;
in the case of elbows, tees and branching, their direction with respect to the axis of the pump;
the minimum clearances to be adhered to between a disturbing (elbow, valve, etc.) and the mounting flange of the pump.
This document applies to the installation of rot dynamic pumps (centrifugal, mixed flow and axial flow) fitted in piping. It applies to pumps having intake diameters equal to or less than 500 mm. The recommendations may be adapted in agreement with the pump manufacturer for intakes having dimensions exceeding 500 mm or for special applications. This document is not applicable to pumps of which the inlet is located in reservoirs, sumps or tanks and which will be dealt with in a subsequent standard.
The recommendations in this document are only valid under the following conditions:
Newtonian fluids having a maximum viscosity of 2.10-4 m2/s;
occluded gas content at pumping temperature and inlet pressure not exceeding 2 % by volume for water and
4 % for other fluids;
solids content (small particle size, such as sand) not exceeding 1 % by volume, nor 1 % by weight;
in piping with diameters D1 and D2 (see Figure 11), flow rate velocity, should be in the following ranges:
3 m/s to 5 m/s at inlet;
4 m/s to 10 m/s at outlet.

1.1 This technical Report contains recommendations for the design of pump intakes and the installation of pumps.
As far as possible, these recommendations should be adhered to in order to obtain correct operation of the plant.
These recommendations are applicable regardless of the flow rate of the plant:
plant which works with clear water (or relatively unclouded) and relatively non-aerated water or any other liquid having physical and chemical properties which are similar to those of water;
NOTE This document nevertheless contains several general recommendations for operation with cloudy (or very cloudy) water.
pumping plant which has its own floor.
1.2 This document deals with various intake configurations:
Clause 3 contains recommendations which apply to intakes with vertical suction inlet;
Clause 4 contains recommendations applicable to intakes with top suction inlet;
Clause 5 contains recommendations applicable to intakes with floor suction inlet;
Clause 6 contains recommendations applicable to intakes with side-wall suction inlet.

This European Standard describes specified types of acceptance tests for rotary positive displacement pumps for applications other than fluid power, excluding progressing cavity and peristaltic type pumps.
This European Standard applies to the testing of pumps with and without drivers.
This European Standard covers a selection of tests to establish a uniform demonstration of the pump's ability to perform satisfactorily. It does not, however, cover all tests that may be needed for particular pump types or applications, e.g. tests for hazardous liquids or single shaft multiple pump units. Furthermore, it does not cover any noise and vibration tests, priming tests nor any hydrostatic pressure tests. Some pump types with integral relief valves may require more extensive relief valve tests than described in this European Standard. For dosing and metering applications, further tests to demonstrate the dosing and metering abilities of the pumps may be necessary.
NOTE Extrapolation of test results to non-tested pumps is not described in this European Standard. Such extrapolation could be made or mass-produced pumps with reference to pertinent quality assurance methods and standards.

1.1 This International Standard specifies the requirements for seal-less rotodynamic pumps that are driven with
permanent magnet coupling (magnet drive pumps) or with canned motor, and which are mainly used in chemical
processes, water treatment and petrochemical industries. Their use can be dictated by space, noise, environment
or safety regulations.
Seal-less pumps are pumps where an inner rotor is completely contained in a pressure vessel holding the pumped
fluid. The pressure vessel or primary containment device is sealed by static seals such as gaskets or O-rings.
1.2 Pumps will normally conform to recognized standard specifications (e.g. ISO 5199, explosion protection,
electromagnetic compatibility), except where special requirements are specified herein.
1.3 This International Standard includes design features concerned with installation, maintenance and
operational safety of the pumps, and defines those items to be agreed upon between the purchaser and
manufacturer/supplier.
1.4 Where conformity to this International Standard has been requested and calls for a specific design feature,
alternative designs may be offered providing that they satisfy the intent of this International Standard and they are
described in detail. Pumps which do not conform with all requirements of this International Standard may also be
offered providing that the deviations are fully identified and described.
Whenever documents include contradictory requirements, they should be applied in the following sequence of
priority:
a) purchase order (or inquiry, if no order placed), see annexes D and E;
b) data sheet (see annex A) or technical sheet or specification;
c) this International Standard;
d) other standards.
