Overview
EN ISO 3661:2010 (ISO 3661:1977 adopted by CEN) specifies basic baseplate and installation dimensions for end‑suction centrifugal pumps. The standard covers baseplate reference numbers 2–9 and gives alternative numbers and locations for baseplate fixing holes to suit individual installations. It is intended primarily for pumps manufactured to ISO 2858 and for pumps coupled to foot‑mounted electric motors for foundation mounting.
This European adoption supersedes EN 23661:1993 and preserves the original ISO text while aligning national implementations across CEN member states. The document is especially relevant to pump manufacturers, motor suppliers, system integrators and installation engineers who require consistent mounting and motor‑coupling interfaces.
Key Topics
- Scope and field of application: Baseplate and installation dimensions for end‑suction centrifugal pumps, mainly for use with ISO 2858 pumps coupled to foot‑mounted motors.
- Baseplate reference numbers: Standardised reference numbers (2–9) for selecting appropriate baseplate sizes and working surfaces.
- Fixing holes and locations: Alternative numbers and locations for baseplate fixing holes (e.g., configurations with three or five holes) to accommodate different installation practices.
- Installation limits: Maximum permissible baseplate heights and guidance on selecting dimensions from the provided tables and figures.
- Compatibility guidance: Relationship to motor frame numbers and references to related IEC/ISO publications for electrical machine and pump dimensions.
Applications
EN ISO 3661:2010 provides practical value across the pump supply chain and installation projects:
- Manufacturer specification: Use the standard to define baseplate layouts that ensure interchangeability between pump models and motor frames.
- System design: Simplifies foundation design and alignment processes by providing standardised installation dimensions and mounting hole options.
- Procurement and compatibility checks: Helps procurement teams verify that pumps, motors and baseplates will couple correctly on site, reducing field modifications.
- Maintenance and retrofits: Facilitates replacement of pumps or motors with minimal foundation or baseplate alteration when products conform to the standard.
Key practical benefits include improved interchangeability, reduced installation time, clearer supplier requirements, and fewer site adjustments during coupling and alignment.
Related Standards
- ISO 2858: End‑suction centrifugal pumps - designation, nominal duty point and dimensions (primary reference for pump sizes and designation used in EN ISO 3661).
- IEC 60072‑1 (formerly IEC Publication 72): Dimensions and output ratings for rotating electrical machines - relevant for motor frame and flange interface compatibility.
For implementers, consult the figures and tables in EN ISO 3661:2010 for exact selection procedures and hole‑location options. The standard's tables and figure(s) provide the definitive data for baseplate numbers, working surface dimensions and recommended installation dimensions.
