Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO
member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical
committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards adopted
by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International
Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this International Standard may be the subject of
patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
ISO 14050 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 207, Environmental Management, Subcommittee SC 6,

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 14050:1998), which has been technically revised,
notably by incorporation of draft amendment 1 (ISO 14050:1998/DAM 1).

Introduction
This International Standard contains concepts and their definitions as used in the ISO 14000 series of International
Standards related to environmental management.
Communication is important in the implementation and operation of Environmental Management Systems. This
communication will be most effective if there is a common understanding of the terms used.
Many environmental terms and definitions are the result of recently developed concepts. The gradual evolution of
these environmental concepts inevitably means that environmental terminology will continue to develop. The
purpose of this document is to convey understanding of the terms used in the ISO 14000 series of International
Standards.
The terms and definitions in this International Standard are derived from the following International Standards on
environmental management.

Because of the ongoing work on the development of environmental management standards within ISO/TC 207,
and in cooperation with ISO/TC 176, including the publication of additional and revised International Standards, this
International Standard will be reviewed, and as appropriate revised or amended.
Other concepts which may be encountered in the environmental management field are not defined in this
International Standard. However, to aid users of the ISO 14000 series of standards on environmental management,
some of these additional concepts are included with bibliographic references in annex B.
Users should be aware that the application and description of these concepts vary throughout the international
environmental community. Their presence in annex B is not intended to promote or endorse the use of these
concepts.

Prólogo
ISO (Organización Internacional de Normalización) es una federación mundial de organismos nacionales de
normalización (organismos miembros de ISO). El trabajo de preparación de las Normas Internacionales
normalmente se realiza a través de los comités técnicos de ISO. Cada organismo miembro interesado en una
materia para la cual se haya establecido un comité técnico, tiene el derecho de estar representado en dicho
comité. Las organizaciones internacionales, públicas y privadas, en coordinación con ISO, también participan
en el trabajo. ISO colabora estrechamente con la Comisión Electrotécnica Internacional (IEC) en todas las
materias de normalización electrotécnica.
Las Normas Internacionales se redactan de acuerdo con las reglas establecidas en la Parte 3 de las
Directivas ISO/IEC.
La tarea principal de los comités técnicos es preparar Normas Internacionales. Los Proyectos de Normas

Normas ISO 14000 relativas a la gestión ambiental.
En la implementación y en la operación de Sistemas de Gestión Ambiental es importante la comunicación.
Ésta será más efectiva si hay una definición común de los términos empleados.
Muchos términos y definiciones ambientales son el resultado de conceptos recientemente desarrollados. La
evolución gradual de estos conceptos ambientales significa inevitablemente que la terminología continuará su

NACIONALNI PREDGOVOR
Mednarodni standard ISO 14050:2002 je pripravil tehnični odbor Mednarodne organizacije za
standardizacijo ISO/TC 207 Ravnanje z okoljem, pododbor SC 6 Izrazi in definicije.
Slovenski standard SIST ISO 14050:2005 je prevod mednarodnega standarda ISO 14050:2002. V
primeru spora glede besedila slovenskega prevoda v tem standardu je odločilen izvirni mednarodni
standard v angleškem in francoskem jeziku. Slovensko izdajo standarda je pripravil tehnični odbor
