Surface mounted piezoelectric devices for frequency control and selection - Standard outlines and terminal lead connections - Part 2: Ceramic enclosures

IEC 61837-2:2011 deals with standard outlines and terminal lead connections as they apply to surface-mounted devices (SMD) for frequency control and selection in ceramic enclosures, and is based on IEC 61240. In this edition, types of enclosures are renamed to express their features in their names for better understanding. The relative comparison of new types with old ones is listed in Table 1. New names of enclosures express configuration type, terminal lead numbers, sizes and arrangement of terminal pads. The details of definition are shown in Clause 3: Configuration of enclosures, and Clause 4: Designation of types. Enclosures in this new edition are based on IEC 61240. In this standard, 27 enclosures are added to the first edition of IEC 61837-2.
This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 61240:1994.

La CEI 61837-2:2011 traite des encombrements normalisés et des connexions des sorties des dispositifs à montage en surface pour la commande et le choix de la fréquence applicables aux enveloppes en céramique, et est basée sur la CEI 61240. Dans la présente édition, les types des enveloppes sont renommés de manière à exprimer leurs caractéristiques dans leurs désignations appropriées pour une meilleure compréhension. La comparaison relative entre les nouveaux et les anciens types d'enveloppes est énumérée dans le Tableau 1. 1) The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters,
prepared by Technical Committees on which all the National Committees
having a special interest therein are represented, express, as nearly
as possible, an international consensus of opinion on the subjects
dealt with.

Section Two - Guide for specifications
INTRODUCTION
Planning of telecontrol systems and defining the specifications of a
system and of its equipment are complex and demand a large amount of
detailed information. There are not only application functions of the
system to be defined but also the operational parameters, the local
environmental conditions and the data transmission paths available as
well as their characteristics. The interfaces between the components of
the system and other equipment facilities such as power supply require-
ments shall also be specified.
Many aspects of this field are covered by standards within the
IEC 870 series on telecontrol equipment and s, stems but many deci-
sions are still left to the engineers who have to plan a system and
establish the specifications.
1. Scope
This series of standards applies to telecontrol equipment and systems
with coded bit serial data transmission for monitoring and control of
geographically widespread processes.
2. Object
This section presents guidelines but not standards for establishing
specifications for telecontrol systems and equipment following the other
IEC standards on telecontrol systems and other relevant international
standards and recommendations such as CCITT recommendations. It
also facilitates the comparison of equipment of different manufacturers.
The planning of telecontrol systems should be subdivided into clearly
defined steps:
- The first step involves a consideration of the operational require-
ments of telecontrol systems (clause 3 of this section) .

In the second step, the conditions and limitations of the data
transmission network are considered and the most suitable utili-
zation is specified (clause 4 of this section) .

Thirdly, the required facilities for the telecontrol equipment and
other equipment of telecontrol systems are specified. This includes
considerations of whether it is useful to include existing local
control equipment (clause 5 of this section) .
The guidelines given in this section are applicable also if only parts
of telecontrol systems are needed. In this case only the relevant
clauses need be considered.
3.
Description of the telecontrol system and its functions
Design aim of the system, for example:
"Main (or regional) control system." (name of the power company
or of the region), or
"District telecontrol system." (name of the district itself or of
the district control centre), or
"Telecontrol system for power station." (name of the controlled
station) .
3.1 Description of the telecontrolled (or telemonitored) process

(Short explanation only as far as necessary for planning telecontrol
systems.)

Description of the function, e. g. dispatching centre, regional control

3.2.2 Requirements for operational parameters
The following operational parameters are specified within Publi-
cation 870-4:
- reliability;
- availability;
maintainability;
- security;
- data integrity;
- time parameters;
- accuracy.
In specifying the time parameters, particular consideration should be
given to the:
- overall transfer time (sum of the times taken by the information
passing through the individual sections of telecontrol systems, but
also influenced by the network configuration, priority, accumu-
lation of events, etc.);
- parameters for state information, such as separating capability,
time resolution, suppression time, etc.;
- updating time for measured values and set point commands;
etc.
It should be emphasized that in specifying the above-mentioned
parameters the requirements of the process should be considered.

3.2.3 Detailed specification
The facilities required should be listed and briefly described.
Below is a list of the standard facilities found in telecontrol systems.

This standard is to be read in conjunction with IEC 61240.

1 Scope
This part of IEC 61837 deals with standard outlines and terminal lead connections as they apply
to surface-mounted devices (SMD) for frequency control and selection in ceramic enclosures,
and is based on IEC 61240.
2 Normative references

3 Configuration of enclosures
The enclosures of the surface-mounted devices are made of ceramic materials with the
terminals of deposited metal film (leadless type) based on descriptive designation system for
semiconductors – devices package.
The configuration symbols are shown as follows:
– DCC (dual chip carrier);
– QCC (quad chip carrier).
4 Designation of types
The designation of types is shown on four parts as follows:

5 Ceramic enclosure dimensions

The dimensions given in this standard apply to all completed SMD-devices for frequency control
and selection. Only those dimensions which meet the requirements of IEC 61240 are given.
6 Lead connections
Recommendations for the lead connections of all completed SMD-devices for frequency control
and selection are given in the following individual sheets. Lead connections shall always be
given in the detail specification.
7 Designation of ceramic enclosures
Table 1 is a list which includes all new enclosure types with their sheet numbers and brief
descriptions. Old enclosure names are also listed as references.

lnternational Standard IEC 61837-2 has been prepared by lEC technical committee 49:

Piezoelectric, dielectric and electrostatic devices and associated materials for frequency control,
selection and detection.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2000. It constitutes a
technical revision.
In this edition, types of enclosures are renamed to express their features in their names for
better understanding. The relative comparison of new types with old ones is listed in Table. 1.
New names of enclosures express configuration type, terminal lead numbers, sizes and
arrangement of terminal pads. The details of definition are shown in Clause 3: Configuration of
enclosures, and Clause 4: Designation of types.
Enclosures in this new edition are based on IEC 61240. In this standard, 27 enclosures are
added to the first edition of IEC 61837-2, as follows:

1 Scope
This part of IEC 61837 deals with standard outlines and terminal lead connections as they apply
to surface-mounted devices (SMD) for frequency control and selection in ceramic enclosures,
and is based on IEC 61240.

3 Configuration of enclosures
The enclosures of the surface-mounted devices are made of ceramic materials with the
terminals of deposited metal film (leadless type) based on descriptive designation system for
semiconductors – devices package.
The configuration symbols are shown as follows:
– DCC (dual chip carrier);
– QCC (quad chip carrier).
4 Designation of types
The designation of types is shown on four parts as follows:

5 Ceramic enclosure dimensions

The dimensions given in this standard apply to all completed SMD-devices for frequency control
and selection. Only those dimensions which meet the requirements of IEC 61240 are given.
6 Lead connections
Recommendations for the lead connections of all completed SMD-devices for frequency control
and selection are given in the following individual sheets. Lead connections shall always be
given in the detail specification.
7 Designation of ceramic enclosures
Table 1 is a list which includes all new enclosure types with their sheet numbers and brief
descriptions. Old enclosure names are also listed as references.
