This European Standard applies to rear loaded refuse collection vehicles (RCV), as defined in 3.2.
This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to the rear loaded RCV, when it is used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer, throughout its foreseeable lifetime, as defined in Clause 4.
This European Standard is applicable to the design and construction of the rear loaded RCV so as to ensure that it is fit for its function and can be operated adjusted and maintained during its entire lifetime. It is not applicable to the end of life of the rear loaded RCV.
This part 1 describes and defines the safety requirements of rear loaded RCV excluding the interface tailgate/discharge door with the lifting device(s) and the lifting device(s) as illustrated in Figure A.1.
Safety requirements for the lifting device(s) and the interface with the tailgate/discharge door are defined in prEN 1501-5.
This European Standard is not applicable to:
- operation in severe conditions e.g. extreme environmental conditions such as:
- below - 25 °C and above + 40 °C temperatures;
- tropical environment;
- wind velocity in excess of 75 km/h;
- contaminating environment;
- corrosive environment;
- operation in potentially explosive atmospheres;
- handling of loads the nature of which could lead to dangerous situations (e.g. hot wastes, acids and bases, radioactive materials, contaminated waste, especially fragile loads, explosives);
- operation on ships.
This European Standard is not applicable to machinery which is manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN.

dass es für seine Aufgabe geeignet ist und dass es während seiner gesamten Lebensdauer betrieben,
eingestellt und instand gehalten werden kann. Sie gilt nicht für das Ende der Lebensdauer des Hecklader-
ASF.

La présente Norme européenne s’applique aux bennes de collecte des déchets (B.C.D.) à chargement arrière,
telles que définies en 3.2.
La présente Norme européenne traite de tous les dangers, situations et phénomènes dangereux importants
relatifs aux B.C.D. à chargement arrière, tels que définis à l’Article 4, lorsqu’elles sont utilisées conformément
aux attentes et dans des conditions de mauvaise utilisation raisonnablement prévisibles par le constructeur,
durant toute leur durée de vie prévue.
La présente Norme européenne est applicable à la conception et à la construction des B.C.D. à chargement
arrière, en vue de garantir que les bennes puissent accomplir leur fonction et être utilisées, ajustées et
entretenues durant tout leur cycle de vie. Elle ne s’applique pas à la fin de vie des B.C.D. à chargement
arrière.
La partie 1 décrit et définit les exigences de sécurité des B.C.D. à chargement arrière, à l’exclusion de

Les exigences de sécurité des lève-conteneurs et de l’interface avec la porte arrière/porte de déchargement
sont définies dans l’EN 1501-5.
La présente Norme européenne ne s’applique pas :

extrêmes, telles que :

Follow the operation manual of the chassis-cab 5.17 T, M 5 Safety requirements and/or protective measures 5.1 General The rear loaded RCV shall comply with the safety requirements and protective measures of this Clause. In addition, the rear loaded RCV shall be designed in accordance with EN ISO 12100 for relevant but not significant hazards which are not dealt with by this European Standard. The rear loaded RCV shall be equipped with safety devices according to 5.14.3 to prevent the compaction mechanism and the discharge system from functioning, if access to the body has been gained through an opening on any side. All systems and components shall be specified and installed in accordance with their manufacturer's instructions. The bodywork shall be considered inaccessible from the front if the gap between the back of the cab and the front of the bodywork is less than 250 mm when in the travelling position
NOTE 1 The RCV should meet the requirements of the road traffic regulations. NOTE 2 Requirements of EN ISO 3411 can be considered if applicable. 5.2 Compaction mechanism 5.2.1 General The design shall take into account the dynamic forces and impact to the bodywork, the connection between the tailgate or discharge door and the body, and the connection between the compaction mechanism and the body, all of which need to withstand the effects of the compaction mechanism. The locking system between the tailgate with the compaction mechanism and the body shall be designed to withstand the compaction forces taking into account the maximum dynamic stress. The capacity and dimensions of the hopper and the performance of the compaction mechanism shall be designed taking into consideration the capacity and dimensions of the largest designated waste container in order to avoid waste falling out of the hopper. 5.2.2.2 Minimum height of the rave rail The height of the rave rail above the ground level shall be at least 1 000 mm (see Figure B.1). 5.2.3 Relationship between the compaction mechanism and the rave rail 5.2.3.1 Closed system If the rave rail or guide flap is 1 400 mm or more above the level on which the operative is standing (ground or footboard level), and if any shear trap is at least 850 mm away from the operative without taking into account the waste (see Figure B.2), it shall be deemed to be a closed system and automatic mode of the compaction mechanism as described in 5.2.4.1 shall be allowed. Other solutions for a closed system regarding the shear trap shall be in accordance with EN ISO 13857:2008, Table 2. 5.2.3.2 Open system If the rave rail or guide flap does not meet the criteria laid down in 5.2.3.1, then it shall be deemed to be an open system. Only manual and semi-automatic mode of the compaction mechanism as described in 5.2.4.3 and 5.2.4.2 shall be allowed. The movements of the compaction mechanism when the gap between the compaction mechanism and the hopper becomes smaller, as defined in EN ISO 13857:2008, Table 2, shall be controlled with at least required performance level PLr c according to EN ISO 13849-1. 5.2.3.3 Guide flap Where (a) guide flap(s) is (are) adjustable to allow open and closed systems the guide flap(s) control and the interlocks shall prevent operation in the automatic mode in the open position with at least required performance level PLr c according to EN ISO 13849-1.
5.2.3.4 Additional equipment(s) If any component mounted on the tailgate or discharge door (e.g. adaptation frame, lifting device) creates an open system by its removal, it shall be interlocked with the control of the compaction mechanism in such a way that only compaction for an open system is possible. The interlocks shall be at least required performance level PLr c according to EN ISO 13849-1. 5.2.3.5 Guards Any crushing and shearing hazards shall be avoided or minimized by design according to EN 349 or appropriate guards according to EN 953 and considering the safety distances of EN ISO 13857. 5.2.3.6 Protective devices The safety distance with the shear trap given by a contact-less guard shall comply with Figures B.3-1 and B.3-2.
