This European Standard is applicable to the design, information for use, maintenance and testing of power driven hoists with or without trolleys for which the prime mover is an electric, hydraulic or pneumatic motor. They are designed for the lifting and lowering of loads which are suspended on hooks or other load lifting attachments. Hoists can be used either in cranes, in other machines, e.g. rail dependent storage and retrieval equipment, monorail conveyors or by itself.
This European Standard is applicable to the following types of hoist:
a)   rope hoist;
b)   chain hoist;
c)   belt hoist, except belt hoist with steel belts as hoisting media;
d)   open type hoist;
e)   NGL building hoists including supporting structures.
This European Standard is not applicable of the following hazards:
i)   this European Standard does not cover hazards related to builders hoists for the transport of goods as defined in 2000/14/EC;
ii)   this European Standard does not cover hazards related to the lifting of persons.
NOTE   The use of hoists for the lifting of persons may be subject to specific national regulations.
This European Standard does not specify additional requirements for hazards related to the use of hoists in explosive atmospheres in underground works.
The significant hazards covered by this European Standard are identified in Clause 4.

Appareils de levage à charge suspendue - Treuils et palans motorisés - Partie 2 : Palans motorisés

La présente Norme européenne s’applique à la conception, l’information pour l’utilisation, la maintenance et les essais relatifs aux palans motorisés avec ou sans chariot, dont le moteur principal est électrique, hydraulique ou pneumatique. Ces palans sont conçus pour le levage et la descente des charges suspendues à des crochets ou autres dispositifs de préhension. Les palans peuvent être utilisés dans les appareils de levage à charge suspendue, dans d’autres machines, par exemple, transtockeurs, transporteurs monorails, ou de manière autonome.
La présente Norme européenne s’applique aux types de palan suivants :
a)   palan à câble ;
b)   palan à chaîne ;
c)   palan à sangle, à l’exception des palans à sangle avec des sangles métalliques utilisées comme matériel de levage ;
d)   palan ouvert ;
e)   treuil potence de chantier, y compris les structures d’appui.
La présente Norme européenne ne s’applique pas aux phénomènes dangereux suivants :
i)   la présente Norme européenne ne couvre pas les phénomènes dangereux relatifs aux treuils de chantier utilisés pour le transport des biens tels que définis dans la Directive 2000/14/CE ;
ii)   la présente Norme européenne ne couvre pas les phénomènes dangereux relatifs au levage de personnes.
NOTE   L’utilisation de palans pour le levage des personnes peut faire l’objet de réglementations nationales spécifiques.
