ISO/TC 81 - Common names for pesticides and other agrochemicals

This document provides a link to an XML file that contains the common names for more than 1 200 pest control chemicals and plant growth regulators of international importance. For each substance, the XML file also contains systematic names, molecular formula, structural formula, CAS Registry Number®, InChI, InChIKey and use. The XML file is updated each year to add newly-approved common names and to make any necessary corrections or additions to the data.

This document gives principles for creating common names for pesticides and other agrochemicals. These principles are defined for the guidance of proposers of such common names. The procedure for the establishment of common names is given in the Terms of Reference of the Maintenance Agency for ISO 1750, Pesticides and other agrochemicals - Common names.

ISO 765:2016 gives a list of certain pesticide chemicals with reasonably short and distinctive chemical names or trivial names already known, to which it is deemed unnecessary to assign recommended common names at present. The intention is that all the members of the group of isomers of the same pesticide are included in this list, and in consequence it is not necessary to add any locants to the chemical names.

ISO 257:2004 gives principles for creating common names for pesticides and other agrochemicals. These principles are defined for the guidance of proposers of such common names. The procedure for the establishment of common names is also given.

Constitutes a complete revision of the 1976 edition. A table indicates the types of compound, recommended syllables and their positions in name. The recommandations are based on the chemical structures of the compounds. An extensive normative annex specifies procedure and rules of denomination.

Correct the (E) chemical names on: page 20, chlorprocarb; page 31, dimethrin; page 41, fenitrothion; page 63, parafluron; according to the names given in the amendment. Page 72, simetryn: correct the (F) spelling as given in the amendment. Page 47, HHDN, and page 80, tridemorph: replace the structure, and correct the chemical names for "tridemorph", as given in the amendment.
