This standard describes the measurement of screening attenuation by the reverberation chamber measurement method, also called mode stirred chamber method. This standard is applicable to screening attenuation measurements of cable assemblies, cables, connectors, and passive microwave components, such as waveguides, phase shifters, diplexers/multiplexers, power dividers/combiners and etc. Modern electronic equipments have shown a demand for methods for testing screening attenuation performance of microwave components over their whole frequency range. Convenient measurement methods have existed for lower frequencies and components of regular shape. These measurement methods are described in IEC 62153 series standards. For much higher frequencies and for components of irregular shape, the reverberation chamber method should be used. Theoretically, the reverberation chamber method has no upper limit of the measurement frequency, but it is limited by the quality and sensitivity of the measurement system, and the lower limit of the measurement frequency is restricted by the size of the reverberation chamber.

This document covers coaxial cables for use in analogue and digital systems. This document should be used in conjunction with EN 50290-1-1. Coaxial cables covered by this document operate in transverse electromagnetic mode (TEM) and are suitable for use in a wide range of digital and analogue applications including CATV, radio frequency systems, instrumentation, broadcasting, telecommunications and data network systems. Various constructions and materials provide for indoor and outdoor applications, including underground and overhead installations, and other environmental protection characteristics. Generally, cables are designed for use in 50 Ohm and 75 Ohm characteristic impedance systems, although other types (e.g. 93/95 Ohm) are also covered. Coaxial cables defined by this document may be incorporated into hybrid cable constructions with optical fibre or multi-element cable components. All cables covered by this document may be subjected to voltages greater than 50 V AC or 75 V DC according to the relevant sectional or detail specification. However, these cables are not intended for direct connection to the mains electricity supply or other low impedance sources.

IEC 61726:2015(E) describes the measurement of screening attenuation by the reverberation chamber test method, sometimes named mode stirred chamber, suitable for virtually any type of microwave component and having no theoretical upper frequency limit. It is only limited toward low frequencies due to the size of the test equipment, which is frequency-dependent and is only one of several methods of measuring screening attenuation. For the purpose of this standard, examples of microwave components are waveguides, phase shifters, diplexers/multiplexers, power dividers/combiners etc. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition, published in 1999. This edition constitutes a technical revision. It takes into account the latest developments in the design of reverberation chambers as described in IEC 61000-4-21, which is also referencing this standard as a possible test method. Furthermore, an alternative measurement procedure is added which is able to reduce the measurement time needed.

Part 1-17 of EN 50289 details the test methods used to determine the cable to cable (exogenous) crosstalk between 4 pair cables used in analogue and digital communication systems. These exogenous Crosstalk effects are near end crosstalk (ExNEXT), far end crosstalk (ExFEXT), equal level far end crosstalk (ExELFEXT). This document should be read in conjunction with EN 50289-1-1, which contains essential provisions for its application. Reference is made also to EN 50289-1-10 in which the definitions and test methods for crosstalk is given. The exogenous crosstalk test method is described, as well as the treatment of the results to simulate the installation condition of a disturbed cable in contact with six disturbing cables.

This European Standard describes three methods to determine the UV resistance of sheath materials for electric and for optical fibre cables. These tests apply for outdoor and indoor cable applications according to the product standard. The samples of sheath are taken from the finished cables. Although this test method European Standard is written principally for communication cables, it may be used for energy cables if called up by the relevant product standard. Where a sheath is of cross-linked (thermosetting) material, it should be recalled that the preparation of moulded plaques must be made before crosslinking. Methods differ by the nature of the UV source. Due to the excessive time to failure, the methods described are inappropriate to products where UV resistance is conferred by ≥ 2,0 % carbon black meeting the dispersion requirements defined in EN 50290-2-24.

This sectional specification covers screened cables, characterised from 1 MHz up to 1 000 MHz, to be used as work area cables to connect a telecommunications outlet to the terminal equipment and for patch cord cables to establish connections on a patch panel as defined in EN 50173. Work area and data centres cables may also be used as patch cord cables in any distributor of a generic building wiring system to interconnect with equipment or to cross-connect between cabling systems. This sectional specification contains the electrical, mechanical, transmission and environmental performance characteristics and requirement of the cables when tested in accordance with the referenced test methods. This sectional specification should be read in conjunction with EN 50288-1, which contains the essential provisions for its application. The cables covered in this sectional specification are intended to operate with voltages and currents normally encountered in communication systems. These cables are not intended to be used in conjunction with low impedance sources, for example, the electric power supplies of public utility mains.

EN 50288-11-2 is a sectional specification for un-screened cables, characterised from 1 MHz up to 500 MHz, to be used in work area cables to connect a telecommunications outlet to the terminal equipment and for patch cord cables to establish connections on a patch panel as defined in EN 50173. Work area and data centres cables may also be used as patch cord cables in any distributor of a generic building wiring system to interconnect with equipment or to cross-connect between cabling systems. This sectional specification contains the electrical, mechanical, transmission and environmental performance characteristics and requirements of the cables when tested in accordance with the referenced test methods. This sectional specification is to be read in conjunction with EN 50288-1, which contains the essential provisions for its application. The cables covered in this sectional specification are intended to operate with voltages and currents normally encountered in communications systems. These cables are not intended to be used in conjunction with low impedance sources, for example the electrical power supplies of public utility mains.

IEC 61196-10-1:2014(E) applies to coaxial communication cables described in IEC 61196-10. It specifies the requirements for semi-rigid radio frequency and coaxial cables with solid dielectric and semi-airspace dielectric. These cables are intended for use in microwave and wireless equipment or other signal transmission equipment or units at frequencies above 500 MHz. This part of IEC 61196 is to be read in conjunction with IEC 61196-1 and IEC 61196-10. The blank detail specification determines the layout and style for detail. Detail specifications, based on the blank detail specification, may be prepared by a national organization, a manufacturer or a user.
