Instrument transformers -- Part 2: Inductive voltage transformers

Applies to new inductive voltage transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices at frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz. Relates basically to transformers with separate windings, but is also applicable, where appropriate, to auto-transformers. Covers requirements and tests, that are necessary for single-phase inductive protective voltage transformers. Includes requirements which apply particularly to transformers which are required to have sufficient accuracy to operate protective systems at voltages that occur under fault conditions. Replaces the second edition of IEC 186 (1987), its amendment 1 (1988) and amendment 2 (1995) only as far as the inductive voltage transformers are concerned. IEC 186 remains in force for the capacitor voltage transformers.

Elle annule et remplace la deuxième édition de la HD 554 et les amendements 1 et 2, pour les transformateurs inductifs de tension. La HD 554 reste encore en viguer pour les transformateurs condensateurs de tension.

This document defines the general principles and technical details of the tests for the
assessment of the thermal endurance of surface insulation coatings on electrical steel strip and
sheet.
The assessment is made by evaluating the change of a specified property of the surface
insulation coating due to a heat treatment at a specified temperature up to 850 °C for a specified
duration time up to 2 500 h. The specified property is measured at an ambient temperature of
(23 ± 5) °C both without heat treatment and after heat treatment.
This document is applicable to the following properties of surface insulation coatings:
– adhesion;
– surface insulation resistance;
– stacking factor.
This document is not applicable to other properties of surface insulation coatings, e.g. welding
properties, or to other effects, e.g. discoloration and off-gassing, which can be caused by
exposure to elevated temperatures.
NOTE Some of the tests take a very long time to perform and therefore they are often not appropriate for acceptance
tests of material supplied on a specific order.

Meters designed for operation with Low Power Instrument Transformers (LPITs as defined in the IEC 61869 series) may be tested for compliance with this document and the relevant IEC 62053 series documents only if such meters and their LPITs are tested together as directly connected meters.
This document does not apply to:
• meters for which the voltage line-to-neutral derived from nominal voltages exceeds 1 000 V AC, or 1 500 V DC;
• meters intended for connection with low power instrument transformers (LPITs as defined in the IEC 61869 series of standards) when tested without such transformers;
• metering systems comprising multiple devices (except for LPITs) physically remote from one another;
• portable meters;
• meters used in rolling stock, vehicles, ships and airplanes;
• laboratory and meter test equipment;
• reference standard meters;
• data interfaces to the register of the meter;
• matching sockets or racks used for installation of electricity metering equipment.
This document does not cover measures for the detection and prevention of fraudulent attempts to compromise a meter’s performance (tampering).

- Annex C was modified taking account of the new situation regarding P and R grades;
- Annex D was amended by addition of Clause D.4 on the numerical air flux compensation.
