This European Standard specifies the requirements and tests for new three-phase voltage transformers with Um up to 52 kV and frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz, for use with electrical instruments or electrical protective devices.

This part of IEC 61558 deals with safety aspects of transformers for toys and power supplies incorporating transformers for toys such as electrical, thermal and mechanical safety. This Part 2-7 is applicable to transformers for toys and power supplies incorporating both transformers for toys and electronic circuits. This Part 2-7 is not applicable to external circuits and their components intended to be connected to the input terminals, output terminals or socket-outlets of the transformers and power supplies. This Part 2-7 applies to stationary and portable, single-phase, air-cooled (natural or forced), transformers for toys and power supplies incorporating transformers for toys, having a rated supply voltage not exceeding 250 V a.c., a rated supply and internal operating frequency not exceeding 500 Hz, a rated output not exceeding 200 VA and a rated output current not exceeding 10 A. This Part 2-7 is applicable to independent transformers and transformers for specific use. This Part 2-7 is applicable to dry-type transformers for toys. The windings may be encapsulated or non-encapsulated. The no-load output voltage does not exceed 33 V a.c. for transformers for toys and power supplies incorporating transformers for toys, or 46 V ripple-free d.c. for power supplies incorporating transformers for toys, and the rated output voltage does not exceed 24 V a.c. for transformers and power supplies , or 33 V ripple-free d.c. for power supplies . In general, this Part 2-7 does not take into consideration children playing with the transformers for toys and power supplies incorporating transformers for toys.

This part of IEC 61558 deals with safety aspects of control transformers and power supplies incorporating control transformers such as electrical, thermal and mechanical safety. This Part 2-2 is applicable to control transformers and power supplies incorporating both control transformers and electronic circuits. This Part 2-2 is not applicable to external circuits and their components intended to be connected to the input terminals, output terminals or socket-outlets of the transformer and power supplies. This Part 2-2 does not apply to transformers covered by IEC 60076-11. This Part 2-2 applies to stationary or portable, single-phase or poly-phase, air-cooled (natural or forced), independent or associated control transformers and power supplies incorporating a control transformer, having a rated supply voltage not exceeding 1 000 V a.c. and rated supply and internal operating frequency not exceeding 500 Hz. The rated thermal output does not exceed: - 25 kVA for single-phase control transformers and power supplies incorporating control transformers; - 40 kVA for poly-phase control transformers and power supplies incorporating control transformers. This Part 2-2 is applicable to control transformers and power supplies incorporating control transformers without limitation of the rated output subject to an agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. This Part 2-2 is applicable to dry-type transformers. The windings may be encapsulated or non-encapsulated. The no-load output voltage or the rated output voltage does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 415 V ripple-free d.c. For independent control transformers and independent power supplies incorporating control transformers, the no-load output voltage and / or the rated output voltage is not less than 50 V a.c., or 120 V ripple free d.c.

This Part 2-1 is applicable to separating transformers and power supplies incorporating both separating transformers and electronic circuits. This Part 2-1 is not applicable to external circuits and their components intended to be connected to the input terminals, output terminals or socket-outlets of the transformers and power supplies. This Part 2-1 does not apply to transformers covered by IEC 60076-11. This Part 2-1 applies to stationary or portable, single-phase or polyphase, air-cooled (natural or forced) independent and associated separating transformers and power supplies, having a rated supply voltage not exceeding 1 000 V a.c., a rated supply and internal operating frequency not exceeding 500 Hz. The rated output does not exceed: - 1 kVA for single-phase separating transformers and single-phase power supplies incorporating separating transformers; - 5 kVA for poly-phase separating transformers and poly-phase power supplies incorporating separating transformers. This Part 2-1 is applicable to separating transformers and power supplies incorporating separating transformers without limitation of the rated output subject to an agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. This Part 2-1 is applicable to dry-type transformers. The windings may be encapsulated or non-encapsulated. The no-load output voltage or the rated output voltage does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 415 V ripple-free d.c. For independent separating transformers and independent power supplies, the no-load output voltage and / or the rated output voltage is not less than 50 V a.c., or 120 V ripple-free d.c.

Applies to new inductive voltage transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices at frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz. Relates basically to transformers with separate windings, but is also applicable, where appropriate, to auto-transformers. Covers requirements and tests, that are necessary for single-phase inductive protective voltage transformers. Includes requirements which apply particularly to transformers which are required to have sufficient accuracy to operate protective systems at voltages that occur under fault conditions. Replaces the second edition of IEC 186 (1987), its amendment 1 (1988) and amendment 2 (1995) only as far as the inductive voltage transformers are concerned. IEC 186 remains in force for the capacitor voltage transformers.
