EN 9300-010:2026 is a CEN European Standard in the aerospace LOTAR series. It gives an overview of the recommended data flow for archiving and retrieving model-based product data such as 3D CAD and PDM data, so it is aimed at teams that prepare, store, recover, or manage digital technical product documentation.
The standard is a process overview. It shows how data moves from preparation to ingest, archival storage, retrieval, and optional removal, while the detailed process rules are left to the related EN 9300 process parts.
What does EN 9300-010:2026 specify?
EN 9300-010:2026 specifies the overview of recommended processes for archiving model-based product data in the aerospace LOTAR context. It focuses on the data flow and the main roles and information packages used in that flow.
The document is organized into scope, normative references, terms and definitions, applicability, an overview of data flow, detailed process-step descriptions, and data descriptions. Annex A lists acronyms, and the bibliography points to the related EN 9300 process parts and supporting standards.
The overview covers:
- data generation as context
- data preparation
- ingest
- ingest of pre-existing data
- archival storage
- retrieval
- data usage as context
- removal
The phases of data generation and data usage are outside the document’s scope, but they appear in the overview to show the full lifecycle.
What are the key requirements of EN 9300-010:2026?
EN 9300-010:2026 sets out the main archive workflow and the role of each step. In practice, it tells an organization what has to happen before data enters the archive, how it is packaged, how it is stored, and how it is later recovered.
Data preparation and ingest
Clause 6.1 says the producer prepares the data and performs defined verification by digital quality assurance. That matters because the archive receives data that has already been checked against data quality requirements, together with validation properties. Clause 6.2 says the archive checks whether the submission information package (SIP) is in the recommended format and then creates the archival information package (AIP). The producer’s environment is recommended to make the source data read-only after successful submission.
Archival storage and retrieval
Clause 6.3 says archival storage includes digital time signatures, descriptive information for AIPs, physical storage, error checking, and disaster recovery steps. Clause 6.4 says retrieval includes access checking, search, and generation of a dissemination information package (DIP). In practice, this means the archive must support controlled access and produce data in a form the consumer can use.
Removal and pre-existing data
Clause 6.5 makes removal optional and says it may be initiated by rules management, an administrator, or an automatic archive request. It also requires documentation and status checking because removal can affect traceability. Clause 6.6 covers ingest of pre-existing data, including legacy archive data and archive migrations, where older archived product data is converted to the recommended archiving format.
Roles and packages
Clause 7 defines the archive, producer, and consumer roles and the three main OAIS package types: SIP, AIP, and DIP. This matters because the standard is built around who submits data, who stores it, and who requests it later.
Certification and references
The standard states that the sub-processes for data preparation, ingest, archival storage, retrieval, and, if implemented, ingest of pre-existing data shall be certified. It also ties the terminology to EN 9300-007 and the archive model to ISO 14721 (OAIS).
What terms does EN 9300-010:2026 define?
- Submission information package (SIP) - The package sent from producer to archive, carrying content information, preservation description information, and packaging information.
- Archival information package (AIP) - The archive’s stored package, which adds digital signature information and supports long-term retention.
- Dissemination information package (DIP) - The package the archive creates for the consumer when data is requested.
- Content information (CI) - The actual data being preserved, such as native or archived-formatted product data.
- Preservation description information (PDI) - Information needed to preserve the content, including provenance, reference, fixity, and context.
- Packaging information (PI) - The information that binds and identifies the parts of an information package.
- Open archival information system (OAIS) - The reference archive model used to frame the archive functions in this standard.
Who uses EN 9300-010:2026?
EN 9300-010:2026 is used in aerospace and related product-data environments where model-based technical documentation must be archived and retrieved over long periods. It is relevant to archives, PLM systems, and engineering organizations that manage 3D CAD and PDM data.
Clause 7 names typical producer roles such as system designers, design engineers, subcontractors, manufacturers, and test engineers. It also names consumer roles such as design engineers, suppliers, manufacturers, customers, regulatory and certification agencies, and quality departments.
What changed in EN 9300-010:2026 from the previous edition?
EN 9300-010:2026 supersedes EN 9300-010:2018. The European foreword states that the revision is a complete revision.
Which standards are used with EN 9300-010:2026?

- EN 9300-012 - Gives the detailed process description for ingest.

What does the EN 9300-010:2026 document contain?
EN 9300-010:2026 contains a data-flow overview figure, then clause 6 with the detailed steps for preparation, ingest, archival storage, retrieval, removal, and ingest of pre-existing data. Clause 7 describes the archive, producer, consumer, and the SIP, AIP, and DIP package structure.
Annex A lists acronyms such as AIP, DIP, PDI, PI, SIP, PLM, ERP, MBSE, and OAIS. The bibliography points to the related EN 9300 process parts and to supporting standards used around long-term archiving and product data exchange.
