- pour que les constructeurs déclarent le bruit émis ;
- pour comparer le bruit émis par les machines de la famille concernée ;

Overview
EN 12545:2000+A1:2009 is a CEN noise test code that defines common requirements for measuring, declaring and verifying noise emissions from footwear, leather and imitation-leather goods manufacturing machines. It covers a range of machine families (cutting/punching, roughing/scouring/polishing, moulding, lasting, nailing, modular repair, presses, splitting/skiving/cementing/drying) and complements the family‑specific (C‑type) noise annexes listed in the standard. The standard targets reproducible determination of sound power levels (LWA) and emission sound pressure levels at workstations (LpA and LpC,peak) using agreed measurement methods.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope of machines covered: e.g., EN 12044, EN 930, EN 1845, EN 931, EN 12653, EN 12387, EN 12203, EN 13457 (see standard for full family/sub‑family details).
- Measured quantities: A‑weighted time‑averaged sound power (LWA), A‑weighted emission sound pressure (LpA) and C‑weighted peak pressure (LpC,peak) at specified workstations.
- Preferred measurement grade: Engineering methods (Grade 2) are preferred; Grade 3 (survey) methods only if Grade 2 is not practicable. Typical reference methods include EN ISO 3744, EN ISO 11204 and related ISO/EN acoustics standards.
- Installation & mounting: Tests must use the same mounting/installation as declared in the machine handbook, on an acoustically hard floor (e.g., concrete), with any noise‑reduction features in place. Flexible cables/hoses recommended to avoid extraneous sound radiation.
- Operating conditions: Measurements taken under reproducible, representative operating conditions (complete work cycle) defined in the relevant noise test code annex.
- Uncertainty & reproducibility: Use standard deviations from the basic method; recommended uncertainty K = 2.5 dB (Grade 2) and K = 4 dB (Grade 3) if not otherwise specified.
- Reporting & declaration: Test reports and data sheets must enable third‑party verification and support dual‑number noise declarations in accordance with EN ISO 4871.
Applications and who uses it
- Manufacturers - to declare machine noise values, guide design changes for noise control at source, and document compliance.
- Test laboratories / acoustic engineers - to perform standardized noise measurements and prepare verification reports.
- Purchasers / OEMs / safety managers - to compare noise performance across machine families and select quieter equipment.
- Regulatory bodies / conformity assessors - to verify declared values and check alignment with machinery directives (see annexes ZA/ZB).
Related standards
- C‑type noise annexes for each machine family: EN 12044, EN 930, EN 1845, EN 931, EN 12653, EN 12387, EN 12203, EN 13457.
