SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This guide provides symbols and a system for their use by which care instructions for textile products can be conveyed in a simple, space-saving, and easily understood pictorial format that is not language dependent. See also ADJD5489-E-PDF. Currently, the FTC Care Labeling Rule recognizes Guide D5489-96c.
4.2 Care symbols are an important means for identifying the appropriate care procedure for home laundering, commercial laundering, professional textile care, and coin-operated drycleaning, of textile products.
4.3 Care labeling using symbols can be used by the purchaser to select textiles on the basis of the care method required without knowledge of the language. The FTC Care Labeling Rule specifies Guide D5489-96c symbols. Additional changes in words and symbols have been added to this guide which are not covered by 16 CFR 423. In the United States, when care symbols only are to be included in a care label, the FTC requires that the Guide D5489-96c version of symbols must be used. However, the symbols, as included in this standard version (Guide D5489-18), may be used if symbols are used in addition to full care instructions written in English wording.
4.4 In countries in which a word-based care labeling system is required, the care symbol system may be used as a supplemental system.
4.5 The word-based instructions for each symbol in this guide are harmonious with Terminology D123, and Terminology D3136, the United States Federal Trade Commission Care Labeling Rule, 16 CFR 423, and industry practice (see Figs. 1 and 2).
FIG. 1 Commercial and Home Laundering and Professional Textile Care Symbols
Note 1: This figure illustrates the symbols to use for laundering and drycleaning instructions. As a minimum, laundering instructions shall include, in order, four symbols: washing, bleaching, drying, and ironing; and, professional textile care instructions shall include one symbol. Additional symbols or words may be used to clarify the instructions.
...
SCOPE
1.1 This guide provides a uniform system of symbols for the disclosure of care instructions on textile products such as apparel, piece goods, and household and institutional articles, hereinafter referred to as “textile,” or “textile product.”
1.2 This guide provides a comprehensive system of symbols to represent care instructions reducing language-dependent care instructions.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 According to statistics provided by the NFPA, one of the most common initiating events in a fatal fire is the dropping of a smoking material, such as a pre-roll, onto a bed or a piece of upholstered furniture. Test Methods E1352 and E1353 and NFPA 261 and NFPA 260 have been developed to evaluate the susceptibility of upholstered furniture mock-ups and components to ignition by cigarettes (similarly for pre-rolls). Federal Standard 16 CFR 1632 was promulgated to reduce the likelihood that mattresses and mattress pads would ignite from a lighted smoking material. Research of test methods (NIST 851-2) has found that filter paper substrates can be used to replace the fabric/padding assembly with multiple layers of common filter paper showing a systematic progression in measuring ignition strength. Additionally, smoking materials with high percentages of full-length burns on filter paper substrates (NIST 1436) generate enough heat to keep burning and thus are more likely to ignite soft furnishings than smoking materials with lower percentages of full-length burns.
5.2 In this test method, the pre-rolls are subjected to a set of laboratory conditions. If different conditions are substituted or the end-use conditions are changed, it may not be possible to use this test method to predict quantitative changes in the fire test response. Therefore, the quantitative results are valid only for the fire test exposure conditions described in this test method. Pre-roll preparation and sampling are very important to ensure minimal impact on results. Preparation shall be made using Practice D8343/D8343M.
5.3 This test method outlines the moisture content of cannabis herbal material in the pre-roll. Determining the moisture content of cannabis herbal material used will shed more light on the effects of moisture on the probability of a pre-roll to achieve a full-length burn when ignited.
5.4 The data from this test method can help extrapolate whether a sample set of pre-ro...
SCOPE
1.1 This fire-test-response standard provides a standard measure of the probability of a cannabis/hemp pre-roll positioned on a substrate to generate enough heat to continue burning and thus potentially cause ignition of bedding or upholstered furniture.
1.2 This test method shall be applicable to pre-roll units that are intended for personal inhalation by means of combustion and contain dried herbal material from any type of a cannabis plant, that is, cannabis/hemp. For the sake of brevity, the term “cannabis” shall be used henceforth to refer to any type of cannabis plant (cannabis/hemp).
1.3 This test method shall be applicable to pre-rolls that burn along the length of a cannabis pre-roll column.
1.4 This test method shall not be applicable to infused pre-rolls, which are outside the scope of this standard.
1.5 Pre-roll preparation and sampling shall be made using Practice D8343/D8343M.
1.6 Units—The values stated in either SI units or United States Customary units (USC units) are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. Metric units will be stated as standard and USC units will be shown in brackets relative to the metric units.

SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The objective of this practice is to provide procedures for estimating emission profiles of VOCs from bedding sets. These profiles can then be used to estimate human inhalation exposures to VOCs emitted from bedding sets. The estimated inhalation exposures ultimately can be used as an input to characterization of health risks from short–term VOC exposures.
5.2 The results of emissions testing for specific raw materials and components, or processes used in manufacturing different bedding sets, can be used to compare their relative impacts on airborne concentrations.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice covers the procedures for estimating emission profiles of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) from bedding sets when a new bedding set is first brought into a house, based on emissions testing in environmental chambers.
1.2 Emission profiles from bedding sets are determined from air concentrations measured in environmental chambers.
1.3 VOC emissions from bedding sets, as in the case of other household furnishings, usually are highest when the products are new. Procedures described in this practice also are applicable to used bedding sets.
1.4 The practice is applicable to VOCs and not to semi-volatile organic chemicals or nonvolatile organic chemicals.
1.5 This practice summarizes procedures for sample selection and handling. This practice also refers to pertinent sampling procedures and analytical methods for emission testing, but does not include technical details on selection of appropriate collection media and analytical methods or on sampling and analytical equipment and associated procedures.
1.6 Emission profiles based on this practice may be used for estimating human exposures to VOCs.
1.7 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
1.8 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.9 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

ABSTRACT
This performance specification establishes the evaluation of specific performance characteristics of any washable or dry-cleanable soft window covering fabrics, whether lined or unlined, for household use. The characteristics to be evaluated prior to repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to, seam strength and appearance, uniformity of shade (part to part), and size consistency (side to side and part to part). Consequently, the characteristics to be evaluated after repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to, colorfastness, dimensional change, seam strength, appearance, and compatibility of components. Compatibility of dimensional change between drapery fabric and lining should be noted.
SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
4.1 This specification may be used to evaluate pertinent performance characteristics of washable and drycleanable soft window coverings, whether lined or unlined.
4.1.1 Soft window covering characteristics to be evaluated prior to repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to, seam strength and appearance, uniformity of shade (part to part), and size consistency (side to side and part to part).
4.1.2 Soft window covering characteristics to be evaluated after repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to, colorfastness, dimensional change, seam strength, appearance, and compatibility of components. Compatibility of dimensional change between drapery fabric and lining should be noted.
4.2 The specified home laundry machine settings do not reflect advances in cycle design or special features of washer and dryers which enhance the performance of these products. The standard washing and drying procedure reflects the minimum capabilities of current home laundering equipment used by consumers in accordance with care label instructions.
4.2.1 The reproducibility of the results of the test method specified in 9.2 depends on the use of procedures for automatic home laundering as specified on care labels.
4.3 The areas to be evaluated and the criteria assigned to these areas shall be set by mutual agreement between purchaser and supplier.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the evaluation of specific performance characteristics of any washable or drycleanable soft window covering.
1.2 This specification is not a specification for washable or drycleanable soft window coverings but may be used by mutual agreement between the purchaser and the supplier to establish material specifications.
1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
