Electromagnetic compatibility - Electrical apparatus for the detection and measurement of combustible gases, toxic gases or oxygen

This European Standard specifies requirements for the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) for electrical apparatus for the detection and measurement of combustible gases, toxic 1) gases or oxygen. This standard applies to apparatus intended for use in residential, commercial and light-industrial environments as well as to apparatus intended for use in industrial environments. The apparatus may be AC-, DC- or battery powered. This European Standard is also applicable to apparatus which is intended for use in hazardous areas which may contain explosive or potentially explosive atmospheres. It covers only normal operation and does not cover safety requirements related to EMC phenomena. This standard specifies requirements for immunity tests in relation to continuous and transient, conducted and radiated disturbances including electrostatic discharges and also for emission tests. The test requirements are specified for each port considered. These requirements have been selected to ensure an adequate level of compatibility for apparatus at the appropriate locations. The levels do not, however, cover extreme cases, which may occur at any location, but with an extremely low probability of occurrence. NOTE In special cases, situations will arise where the level of disturbances may exceed the levels specified in this standard, e.g. where an apparatus is installed in proximity to industrial, scientific or medical (ISM) equipment as specified in EN 55011 or where a hand-held transmitter is used in close proximity to an apparatus. In these instances special mitigation measures may have to be employed. Apparatus falling within the scope of this European Standard is classified as follows by the following types. – Type 1: apparatus intended for use in residential, commercial and light-industrial environments, as described in EN 61000-6-1 and EN 61000-6-3. – Type 2: apparatus intended for use in industrial environments, as described in EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4. This European Standard does not apply to any of the following: – apparatus intended for the detection of dusts or mists in air; – scientific or laboratory based apparatus used only for analysis or measurement; – apparatus used exclusively for process measurement purposes; – apparatus for medical purposes; – apparatus intended for the direct measurement of automotive exhaust gases.

Diese Europäische Norm legt Anforderungen für die elektromagnetische Verträglichkeit (EMV) elektrischer Geräte für die Detektion und Messung von brennbaren Gasen, toxischen 1) Gasen oder Sauerstoff fest. Diese Norm gilt für Geräte zum Gebrauch sowohl im Wohnbereich, Geschäfts- und Gewerbebereichen sowie Kleinbetrieben als auch für Geräte zum Gebrauch im Industriebereich. Die Geräte können mit Wechselstrom, Gleichstrom oder Batterie betrieben sein. Diese Europäische Norm ist auch auf Geräte zum Gebrauch in explosionsfähiger Atmosphäre oder in explosionsgefährdeten Bereichen anwendbar. Sie behandelt nur die normale Verwendung und behandelt keine Sicherheitsanforderungen in Bezug auf EMV-Phänomene. Diese Norm legt Anforderungen für Störfestigkeitsprüfungen in Bezug auf kontinuierliche und impulsförmige, leitungsgeführte und gestrahlte Störungen einschließlich elektrostatischer Entladungen und auch für Prüfungen der Störaussendung fest. Die Anforderungen sind für jeden betrachteten Anschluss angegeben. Diese Anforderungen sind gewählt worden, um ein angemessenes Niveau der Verträglichkeit für Geräte an den entsprechenden Einsatzorten sicherzustellen. Diese Niveaus decken jedoch keine Extremfälle ab, die an jedem Benutzungsort, aber mit einer äußerst niedrigen Auftrittswahrscheinlichkeit vorkommen können. ANMERKUNG In besonderen Fällen ergeben sich Situationen, in denen das Störungsniveau die in dieser Norm festgelegten Größen übersteigen kann, z.B. wenn ein Gerät in der Nähe industrieller, wissenschaftlicher oder medizinischer (ISM) Geräte, wie in EN 55011 angegeben, installiert ist, oder wenn ein tragbarer Sender in direkter Nähe zu einem Gerät benutzt wird. In diesen Fällen kann die Anwendung besonderer Abhilfemaßnahmen notwendig sein. Geräte, die in den Anwendungsbereich dieser Europäischen Norm fallen, werden entsprechend den folgenden Typen klassifiziert. Typ 1: Geräte zum Gebrauch im Wohnbereich, Geschäfts- und Gewerbebereichen sowie Kleinbetrieben, wie in EN 61000-6-1 und EN 61000-6-3 beschrieben. Typ 2: Geräte zum Gebrauch im Industriebereich, wie in EN 61000-6-2 und EN 61000-6-4 beschrieben. Diese Europäische Norm gilt für keines der folgenden: – Geräte zur Detektion von Stäuben oder Nebeln in Luft; – wissenschaftliche oder Laborgeräte, die nur für Analyse oder Messung verwendet werden; – ausschließlich für Prozessmesszwecke verwendete Geräte; – Geräte für medizinische Anwendungen; – Geräte zur direkten Messung von Automobilabgasen.

Compatibilité électromagnétique - Appareils de détection et de mesure de gaz combustible, de gaz toxique et d'oxygène

La présente Norme Européenne spécifie les exigences pour la compatibilité électromagnétique (CEM) pour les matériels électriques de détection et de mesure des gaz combustibles, des gaz toxiques 1) ou de l'oxygène. Cette norme s'applique aux matériels destinés à être utilisés dans des environnements résidentiels, commerciaux et de l'industrie légère, ainsi qu'aux matériels destinés à être utilisés dans l'environnement industriel. Le matériel peut être à courant alternatif, à courant continu ou alimenté par batterie. Cette Norme Européenne est aussi applicable aux matériels destinés à être utilisés dans des emplacements dangereux qui peuvent contenir des atmosphères potentiellement explosives. Elle couvre uniquement les conditions normales de fonctionnement et non les exigences de sécurité relatives aux phénomènes CEM. Cette norme spécifie les exigences pour les essais d'immunité en relation aux perturbations continues et transitoires, conduites et rayonnées, y compris les décharges électrostatiques et également pour les essais d'émission. Les exigences d’essais sont spécifiées pour chaque accès considéré. Ces exigences ont été choisies pour assurer un niveau adéquat de compatibilité pour les matériels utilisés sur des sites appropriés. Ces niveaux ne couvrent pas cependant les cas extrêmes qui peuvent apparaître, mais avec une très faible probabilité, sur un site quelconque. NOTE Dans des cas spéciaux, des situations peuvent apparaître dans lesquelles les niveaux de perturbation peuvent dépasser les niveaux spécifiés dans cette norme, par exemple lorsqu'un matériel est installé à proximité de matériels industriels, scientifiques et médicaux (ISM) tels que défini dans la EN 55011 ou lorsqu’un émetteur portable est utilisé très près d’un matériel. Dans ces cas, des moyens spéciaux de protection peuvent être nécessaires. Les matériels entrant dans le domaine d'application de cette Norme Européenne sont classés comme suit par les types suivants. – Type 1: matériels destinés à être utilisés dans environnements résidentiels, commerciaux et de l'industrie légère, comme décrit dans les EN 61000-6-1 et EN 61000-6-3. – Type 2: Matériel destiné à une utilisation dans un environnement industriel, comme décrit dans les EN 61000-6-2 et EN 61000-6-4. This European Standard was prepared by SC 31-9, Electrical apparatus for the detection and
measurement of combustible gases to be used in industrial and commercial potentially explosive
atmospheres, of Technical Committee CENELEC TC 31, Electrical apparatus for explosive atmospheres.

The text of the draft was submitted to the formal vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN 50270 on
2006-06-01.
This European Standard supersedes EN 50270:1999.

The following dates were fixed:

at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2007-06-01

1 Scope
This European Standard specifies requirements for the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) for electrical

apparatus for the detection and measurement of combustible gases, toxic gases or oxygen. This
standard applies to apparatus intended for use in residential, commercial and light-industrial environments

3 Definitions
Definitions related to EMC and to relevant phenomena may be found in the EEC Directives (89/336/EEC
and 2004/108/EC), in Chapter 161 of IEC 60050 and in CISPR Publications. The definitions stated in the
EEC Directives take precedence.

For the purposes of this standard the following definitions apply.

particular interface of the specified apparatus with the external electromagnetic environment (see
Figure 1)

enclosure port
physical boundary of the apparatus through which electromagnetic fields may radiate or impinge on

signal port
port at which a conductor or cable intended to carry signals is connected to the apparatus

NOTE  Eamples are analog inputs, outputs and control lines; data busses; communication networks etc.

power port
port at which a conductor or cable carrying the primary electrical power needed for the operation
(functioning) of an apparatus or associated apparatus is connected to the apparatus

intrinsically safe circuit
circuit in which any spark or any thermal effect produced in the conditions as specified in EN 50020, which
include normal operation and specified fault conditions, is not capable of causing ignition of a given
explosive gas atmosphere

port connected to an intrinsically safe circuit

assembly in which the sensing element is housed and which may contain associated circuit components
