FprEN ISO 11300-2 is a CEN draft standard for the rehabilitation of underground drains, sewers and water supply networks. It specifies requirements and test methods for pipes and fittings made from thermoset composite materials for cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining. The document is written for manufacturers, installers, laboratories, utilities and buyers who need to define, verify or accept these rehabilitation systems.
What does FprEN ISO 11300-2 specify?
FprEN ISO 11300-2 covers pipes and fittings used to rehabilitate underground non-pressure and pressure drainage, sewerage and water supply networks, including networks carrying water intended for human consumption and raw water intake pipelines. The standard is limited to the renovation technique family of lining with cured-in-place pipes (CIPP).
The document applies to thermoset composite materials combined with compatible fibrous carrier materials, reinforcement and process-related plastics components. It applies both to products as manufactured and to the installed system, with service temperatures up to 50 °C for drainage and sewerage networks and up to 25 °C for water supply networks.
For pressure networks, FprEN ISO 11300-2 covers independent pressure pipe liners, class A, and interactive pressure pipe liners, class B, that do not rely on adhesion to the existing pipeline. It also excludes abrasion, cyclic loading and impact resistance.
| Annex | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Annex A | CIPP components and their functions |
| Annex B | Short-term flexural properties of CIPP pipes |
| Annex C | Long-term flexural modulus under dry or wet conditions |
| Annex D | Long-term flexural strength under dry, wet or acidic conditions |
| Annex E | Examples of methods for reconnecting laterals to a liner |
What are the key requirements of FprEN ISO 11300-2?
FprEN ISO 11300-2 focuses on how a CIPP lining system is built, how it performs after installation, and how it is checked before acceptance. The most important practical points are material declaration, structural performance, leak tightness, marking and installation control.
Pipes and materials
FprEN ISO 11300-2 requires lining tubes to include at least a resin system and carrier material. Reinforcement and internal or external membranes may also be included, and the material used for each component has to be declared. Table 1 classifies allowed resin-system types and membrane materials, while Table 2 classifies resin systems by resin family and curing route.
This matters because the installer and buyer need to know exactly what is being supplied, and the material class is part of conformity assessment. The document also requires combinations of fibres to be declared by mass proportion when more than one fibre type is used.
General installed performance
FprEN ISO 11300-2 limits surface irregularities in straight lengths of installed CIPP liner in constant-perimeter pipe to 2 % of the nominal diameter or 6 mm, whichever is greater. For pressure liners, the installation must not create folds or layer displacements that reduce the declared strength, and the supplier has to declare the minimum longitudinal radius the system can negotiate without such damage.
For interactive pressure pipe liners, the liner has to expand enough under mean operating pressure to close any initial annular gap. In practice, this is the link between design, site geometry and the liner’s ability to work with the host pipe.
Material and mechanical properties
FprEN ISO 11300-2 uses type tests on resin systems and finished liners to verify performance. The resin system, tested alone after cure, has to meet the specified deflection-under-load temperature requirements for drains and sewers or for water supply, depending on the resin family and application.
The document then sets short-term and long-term mechanical tests for installed CIPP. These include ring stiffness, flexural properties, tensile properties and, for pressure networks, projected failure pressure. Long-term values are extrapolated to 50 years from extended tests, which is important for design life assessment rather than only immediate strength.
Chemical resistance and termination tightness
FprEN ISO 11300-2 includes a resistance check for strain corrosion and a long-term flexural strength test under acidic conditions for drains and sewers. It also requires liner terminations in pressure applications to pass leak-tightness testing under internal pressure and external pressure differential.
That means the standard is not only about the pipe wall itself. It also checks the places where the liner ends and reconnects, because those points are common leakage and durability risks.
Jointing, marking and installation control
FprEN ISO 11300-2 requires lining tube lengths to be provided so that no jointing is needed between access points. Where joints at access points are used, pressure applications require mechanical joints, while non-pressure applications may use mechanical or adhesive joints.
Pipes and fittings must be permanently marked with identification, dimensions, material, pressure rating where relevant, traceability data and drinking-water identification when applicable. Clause 9 then requires the installation manual to cover storage, handling, equipment, environmental and safety precautions, reconnection, final inspection and recording of installation parameters.
What terms does FprEN ISO 11300-2 define?
FprEN ISO 11300-2 defines the core terms needed to specify and test CIPP systems.
- Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) - a flexible tube impregnated with thermosetting resin that becomes a pipe after the resin cures.
- Lining tube - the flexible pre-installation tube made from resin system, carrier material and, where used, reinforcement or membranes.
- Liner - the lining pipe after installation.
- Independent pressure pipe liner - a liner that can resist applicable internal loads on its own throughout its design life.
- Interactive pressure pipe liner - a liner that relies on the existing pipeline for some radial support.
- System test pressure (STP) - the hydrostatic or air pressure applied to the installed system to check integrity and leak tightness.
- “M” stage - the manufactured stage before site processing.
- “I” stage - the installed stage in final configuration after site processing.
Who uses FprEN ISO 11300-2?
FprEN ISO 11300-2 is used by CIPP manufacturers, rehabilitation contractors, utility owners, consultants, test laboratories and quality managers. It is relevant to drainage and sewerage networks, pressure sewer and water supply rehabilitation, and potable water applications.
In practice, these users rely on the standard to specify materials, choose test methods, set acceptance criteria, document installation work and compare products for tendering or conformity assessment.
What changed in FprEN ISO 11300-2 from the previous edition?
FprEN ISO 11300-2 merges and replaces the thermoset composite content of the earlier system standards ISO 11296-4, ISO 11297-4 and ISO 11298-4. The foreword states that, in doing so, it introduces or changes several items:
- additional and amended definitions in Clause 3
- a new material classification of thermoplastics membranes
- an extended material classification of resin systems
- additional requirements for declaring short-term mechanical characteristics in Table 5
- an extended classification of lateral connections, including a new class D collar in Table 9 and Figure 6
Which standards are used with FprEN ISO 11300-2?
FprEN ISO 11300-2 cites several standards that supply test methods, material specifications or related system definitions.

Introduction
This document is a part of a System Standard for piping systems of various materials used for the
rehabilitation of existing pipelines in a specified application area. System Standards for rehabilitation deal
with the following applications:
— ISO 11300: Piping systems for rehabilitation of underground drains, sewers and water supply networks;
(this standard)
— ISO 11301: Piping systems for rehabilitation of underground gas supply networks.
The System Standards ISO 11300 and ISO 11301 are subdivided into parts each covering a specific material
or class of material of the piping system.
ISO 11300 is subdivided into four parts:
— Part 1: Polyethylene (PE) material;
— Part 2: Thermoset composite materials (this document);
— Part 3: PVC-U material;
— Part 4: Thermoplastic composite materials.
These System Standards cover various techniques for renovation and trenchless replacement. Furthermore,
they are distinguished from those for conventionally installed plastics piping systems by the requirement
to verify certain characteristics in the “as-installed condition”, after site processing. This is in addition to
specifying requirements for piping system components “as manufactured”.
A consistent structure of clause headings has been adopted for all parts of ISO 11300 and ISO 11301, in order
to facilitate direct comparisons across rehabilitation technique families.
Figure 1 shows the clause structure and the relationship between ISO 11300 and ISO 11301.
For complementary information, see ISO 11295. For assessment of conformity to the requirements of this
document, see ISO/TS 23818-2.
System Standard ISO 11300 incorporates the relevant content of and replaces the following previous System
Standards for the rehabilitation of existing drainage and sewerage and water supply networks:
— The ISO 11296 series: Plastics piping systems for renovation of underground non-pressure drainage and
sewerage networks;
— The ISO 11297 series: Plastics piping systems for renovation of underground drainage and sewerage
networks under pressure;
— The ISO 11298 series: Plastics piping systems for renovation of underground water supply networks;
— The ISO 21225 series: Plastics piping systems for the trenchless replacement of underground pipeline
networks.

Piping systems for rehabilitation of underground drains,
sewers and water supply networks —
Part 2:
Thermoset composite materials
1 Scope
This document specifies requirements and test methods for pipes and fittings which are part of piping
systems for the rehabilitation of underground non-pressure and pressure drains and sewers, and of water
supply networks which transport water intended for human consumption, including raw water intake
pipelines.
It is applicable to the renovation technique family:
— lining with cured-in-place pipes (CIPP).
It applies to the use of thermoset composite materials with various thermosetting resin systems, in
combination with compatible fibrous carrier materials, reinforcement, and both permanent and process-
related thermoplastics membranes (see 5.1).
It is applicable to pipes and fittings, as manufactured, as well as to the installed system, with service
temperatures up to 50 °C for drains and sewers and up to 25 °C for water supply networks.
For pressurised networks, this document applies to independent (fully structural, class A) and interactive
(semi structural, class B) pressure pipe liners, as defined in ISO 11295, which do not rely on adhesion to the
existing pipeline.
It does not include requirements or test methods for resistance to abrasion, cyclic loading or impact, which
are outside the scope of this document.
