Abstract

This document specifies requirements and test methods for pipes and fittings which are part of piping systems for the rehabilitation of underground non-pressure and pressure drains and sewers, and of water supply networks which transport water intended for human consumption, including raw water intake pipelines. This document is applicable to the renovation technique family "lining with cured-in-place pipes (CIPP)". It is not applicable to lining with discrete pipes or lining with pipe segments using glass-reinforced thermosetting plastics (GRP) material, as defined by ISO 11295. It is not applicable to short lengths of CIPP used for patch repair only of local pipe defects. It applies to the use of thermoset composite materials with various thermosetting resin systems, in combination with compatible fibrous carrier materials, reinforcement, and thermoplastics membranes (see 5.1). It is applicable to pipes and fittings, as manufactured, as well as to the installed system. It applies for service temperatures up to 50 °C for drains and sewers and up to 25 °C for water supply networks. For pressurised networks, this document applies to independent (fully structural, class A) and interactive (semi structural, class B) pressure pipe liners, as defined in ISO 11295, which do not rely on adhesion to the existing pipeline. It does not include requirements or test methods for resistance to abrasion, jetting, cyclic loading or impact, which are outside the scope of this document.

ISO 11300-2:2026 is an ISO standard for thermoset composite materials used in curing-in-place pipe (CIPP) systems for rehabilitating underground drains, sewers, and water supply networks. It specifies requirements and test methods for pipes and fittings, both as manufactured and after installation, for non-pressure and pressure applications, including potable water and raw water intake pipelines. It is aimed at rehabilitation system suppliers, installers, and anyone checking whether a CIPP liner system is suitable for service.

What does ISO 11300-2:2026 specify?

ISO 11300-2:2026 specifies the requirements and test methods for CIPP pipes and fittings made from thermoset composite materials. The document is limited to the renovation technique family “lining with cured-in-place pipes (CIPP)” and covers service temperatures up to 50 °C for drains and sewers and up to 25 °C for water supply networks.

The standard excludes discrete-pipe lining, pipe-segment lining using glass-reinforced thermosetting plastics (GRP), and short CIPP lengths used only for patch repair of local defects. It also leaves out resistance requirements and test methods for abrasion, jetting, cyclic loading, and impact.

The document is organized into:

  • Clause 5 - Pipes
  • Clause 6 - Fittings
  • Clause 7 - Ancillary components
  • Clause 8 - Fitness for purpose
  • Clause 9 - Installation practice
  • Annexes A to E for component functions, test methods, and installation-manual content
AnnexWhat it covers
ACIPP liner components and their functions
BShort-term flexural properties of cured-in-place pipes
CLong-term flexural modulus under dry or wet conditions
DLong-term flexural strength under dry, wet or acidic conditions
ESummary of elements for installation manuals

What are the key requirements of ISO 11300-2:2026?

  • Clause 5.1 sets the basic CIPP liner makeup. A lining tube shall include a resin system, carrier material, and an external membrane; reinforcement and an internal membrane are optional. The materials used for each component shall be declared, which matters because the supplier must identify what the product is made of and how the layers are intended to work together.

  • Clause 5.2 controls how the liner fits the host pipe. The lining tube has to be sized so the installed liner does not create excessive surface irregularities, and for pressure pipe liners the installation shall not create folds or layer displacements that reduce strength. The rehabilitation system supplier also has to declare the minimum bend radius, so installers know the tightest bend the system can pass without damaging structural performance.

  • Clause 5.5 and Table 5 define the short-term performance checks. The standard calls for declared short-term values for ring stiffness, circumferential tensile wall strength, flexural properties, and longitudinal tensile properties, with test methods drawn from ISO and Annex B. In practice, this is the evidence base for product type testing and for confirming that the liner can meet the declared design performance.

  • Clause 5.6 and Table 6 focus on long-term structural behaviour. The standard requires long-term ring creep stiffness, long-term flexural modulus, long-term flexural strength, and, for pressure networks, projected failure pressure at 50 years. These long-term results are what designers use to justify service life and pressure capability rather than relying only on short-term strength.

  • Clause 5.7 and Table 7 address aggressive service conditions. For drains and sewers, the CIPP liner is tested for strain corrosion resistance and for long-term flexural strength under acid conditions. This matters where the liner may face sewer chemicals or other corrosive exposure over time.

  • Clauses 5.9 and 5.10 control jointing and marking. Pressure applications are intended to be installed without joints between access points, while non-pressure applications may use simple overlap joints, and access-point joints in pressure networks shall be mechanical. Marking has to identify the standard, manufacturer, diameter, wall-thickness basis, pressure rating where relevant, material, traceability information, and drinking-water approval where applicable.

  • Clause 6 covers fittings, especially lateral connection collars. The only cured-in-place fittings specified are lateral connection collars for non-pressure applications, classified as types A to D in Table 8. The collar geometry, overlap with the main pipe, and compatibility with lined or unlined laterals are important because they determine whether the connection will seal and remain serviceable.

  • Clauses 8 and 9 shift from product to installed system. The installed CIPP system has to maintain free bore, stiffness, strength, and leak tightness, and it must be suitable for the intended cleaning and maintenance methods. Installation practice covers isolation of the pipe section, storage and handling, equipment, process inspection, termination, reconnection, final inspection, and documentation, so the standard addresses both product quality and field workmanship.

What terms does ISO 11300-2:2026 define?

  • CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) - A pipe liner formed and cured inside the existing pipeline.
  • CIPP lining system - The lining tube and all relevant fittings used to renovate an existing pipeline.
  • CIPP product - A particular CIPP liner design defined by specified materials, wall structure, resin system, and installation process.
  • “M” stage - The as-manufactured stage, before site processing.
  • “I” stage - The as-installed stage, after site processing and final installation.
  • Declared value - A limiting value stated in advance by the rehabilitation system supplier and used for conformity assessment.
  • Allowable operating pressure (PFA) - The maximum continuous internal pressure a component can withstand in service.
  • Nominal pressure (PN) - A pressure designation used for reference and marking.

Who uses ISO 11300-2:2026?

ISO 11300-2:2026 is used by rehabilitation system suppliers who assemble the liner system and declare its application range. It is also used by system installers, who prepare the host pipe, install the liner, reconnect laterals and ends, and document the process.

Utility owners, asset managers, consultants, and buyers use the standard to specify CIPP systems for underground drains, sewers, and water supply networks. Test laboratories use it for type testing, long-term creep and strength testing, and short-term flexural testing of installed samples. It is relevant in wastewater, sewer rehabilitation, and drinking-water infrastructure projects where the liner must be verified as both a product and an installed system.

What changed in ISO 11300-2:2026 from the previous edition?

ISO 11300-2:2026 is the first edition of this part and, together with ISO 11300-1:2026, ISO 11300-3:2026 and ISO/DIS 11300-4, replaces several earlier standards for thermoset and related rehabilitation systems.

The foreword states these main changes:

  • definitions in Clause 3 were amended and new ones added
  • thermoplastics membranes were added as a material classification
  • the resin-system classification was expanded
  • additional requirements for declaring short-term mechanical characteristics were added
  • the lateral-connection classification was extended with a new class D
  • Annex B was revised to use ISO 14125 only
  • the curvature-correction procedures in Annex B were updated for curved test pieces

The main changes are as follows:
— for piping systems made from thermoset composite materials, this document replaces the related
content, including requirements, of the documents listed above;
— definitions in Clause 3 have been amended and new definitions have been added;
— a new material classification of thermoplastics membranes has been added (see Table 1);
— the material classification of resin systems has been expanded (see Table 2);
— additional requirements for declaration of short-term mechanical characteristics have been included
(see Table 5);
— the classification of lateral connections has been extended (new class D connection added in Table 8 and
Figure 6);
— in Annex B all references to ISO 178 have been removed and replaced by references to ISO 14125 only;
— in B.5.4, the procedure for determining apparent flexural modulus of curved samples has been amended
and the formula for associated curvature correction factor modified to take account of large, geometry-
changing deformations of the test pieces and friction at the supports. The previous curvature correction
factor for stress has been deleted;

v
— in B.5.5, the correction for curvature of the apparent section bending modulus has been similarly
updated.

Introduction
This document is a part of a series of International Standards concerning piping systems of various
materials used for the rehabilitation of existing pipelines in a specified application area. System Standards
for rehabilitation deal with the following applications:
— ISO 11300 series: Piping systems for rehabilitation of underground drains, sewers and water supply networks;
— ISO 11301 series: Piping systems for rehabilitation of underground gas supply networks.
The ISO 11300 and ISO 11301 series are subdivided into parts each covering a specific material or class of
material of the piping system.
ISO 11300 series is subdivided into four parts:
— Part 1: Polyethylene (PE) material;
— Part 2: Thermoset composite materials (this document);
— Part 3: PVC-U material;
— Part 4: Thermoplastic composite materials.
These documents cover various techniques for renovation and trenchless replacement. Furthermore, they
are distinguished from those for conventionally installed plastics piping systems by the requirement to
verify certain characteristics in the “as-installed condition”, after site processing. This is in addition to
specifying requirements for piping system components “as manufactured”.
A consistent structure of clause headings has been adopted for all parts of the ISO 11300 series and the
ISO 11301 series, in order to facilitate direct comparisons across rehabilitation technique families.
Figure 1 shows the clause structure and the relationship between the ISO 11300 series and the ISO 11301
series.
For complementary information, see ISO 11295.
For assessment of conformity to the requirements of this document, see ISO/TS 23818-2.

Introduction
d’assainissement et des réseaux d’alimentation en eau enterrés;
— Partie 1: Matériau polyéthylène (PE);
— Partie 2: Matériaux composites thermodurcissables (le présent document);
— Partie 3: Matériau PVC-U;
