This draft European Prestandard: a) defines the types of cracking and the conditions under which each can occur in carbon and low alloy steels in wet H2S-containing environments; b) gives guidelines for the materials to be used to prevent such cracking; c) gives test methods for evaluating materials performance. Corrosive conditions can lead to failures by mechanisms other than hydrogen assisted cracking and should be mitigated by corrosion control measures that are outside the scope of this draft European Prestandard.

Korrosive Bedingungen können auch durch andere Mechanismen als durch wasserstoffbeeinflußte Rißbildung zu Schäden führen.

Le présent projet de prénorme européenne: a) définit les différents types de fissuration, et les conditions dans lesquelles ils peuvent se manifester sur les aciers au carbone et peu alliés en présence de H2S humide; b) donne des lignes directrices pour choisir les matériaux à utiliser pour prévenir une telle fissuration; c) donne des méthodes d'essai pour évaluer la performance des matériaux. Certaines conditions corrosives peuvent conduire à des avaries par des mécanismes autres que la fissuration de type fragilisation par l'hydrogène.
