ISO/TC 20/SC 10/WG 14 - Hose assemblies
Assemblages de tuyaux
General Information
This document specifies characteristics of hose assemblies with corrosion‑resistant metallic braid and convoluted polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) inner tube for use in aircraft fluid systems at temperatures between ‑55 °C and +200 °C and at nominal pressures, depending on bore size, up to 6,8 MPa. Special approval from the proper national authority can be required if these hoses are to be part of a pressurized gas storage system. Two types of hose assembly are covered in this document: — Type 1: Non‑conductive inner tube; and — Type 2: Conductive inner tube.

ISO 10502:2012 specifies requirements for polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hose assemblies for use in aircraft hydraulic, fuel and lubricating oil systems at temperatures between -55 °C (-67 °F) and 232 °C (450 °F) for Class I assemblies and between -55 °C (-67 °F) and 135 °C (275 °F) for Class II assemblies, and at nominal pressures up to 10 500 kPa (1 523 psi) (105 bar). The hose assemblies are also suitable for use within the same temperature and pressure limitations in aerospace pneumatic systems where some gaseous diffusion through the wall of the PTFE liner is tolerated. ISO 10502:2012 covers hose assemblies of the following classes: · class I: hose assemblies with fitting of corrosion-resistant steel or titanium parts [232 °C (450 °F)]; · class II: hose assemblies with fitting of corrosion-resistant steel and aluminium parts [135 °C (275 °F)], DN12 and larger.

ISO 8153-1:2009 defines terms used for all types of hose assemblies. General terms can be made more precise through the addition of supplementary terminology relating to the design, range of application and/or the material of the hose/hose assembly. Terms and definitions specific to metallic hose assemblies are given in ISO 7369.

ISO 8829-1:2009 specifies test methods for flexible polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) inner tubes with metallic (stainless steel) braided hose and hose assemblies used in aircraft fluid systems, in the pressure and temperature ranges covered by pressure classes and temperature types, as specified in ISO 6771. If performance requirements are not defined in ISO 8829-1:2009, they are defined in the performance specification. ISO 8829-1:2009 is applicable when reference is made to it in a procurement specification or other definition document.

ISO 8913:2006 specifies requirements for lightweight polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hose assemblies for use in aircraft hydraulic systems at temperatures between - 55 °C and 204 °C (- 65 °F and 400 °F), and at a nominal pressure up to 3 000 psi (20 684 kPa) or 21 000 kPa (3 046 psi). The hose assemblies are also suitable for use within the same temperature and pressure limitations in aircraft pneumatic systems where some gaseous diffusion through the wall on the PTFE liner may be tolerated. The use of these hose assemblies in high-pressure pneumatic storage systems is not recommended. In addition, installations in which the limits specified in ISO 8913:2006 are exceeded, or in which the application is not covered specifically by ISO 8913:2006, for example for oxygen, are subject to the approval of the purchaser. A listing of hose assembly procurement standards conforming to ISO 8913:2006 is given.

ISO 8829-2:2006 specifies test methods for flexible polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) inner tubes with non-metallic braided hose and hose assemblies used in aircraft fluid systems, in the pressure and temperature ranges covered by pressure classes and temperature types, as specified in ISO 6771. ISO 8829-2:2006 applies to the hose and the hose coupling. The tests and assembly requirements for the connecting end fittings are covered in the procurement specification. ISO 8829-2:2006 is applicable when reference is made to it in a procurement specification or other definition document.

ISO 23935:2006 specifies the requirements for tests which may be applied to all fluid system components located in zones designated as "fire zones" and built to satisfy the minimum level specified for withstanding fire. It does not relate to withstanding fire outside designated fire zones, nor to flammability requirements, or to those conditions induced by the flame coming from the combustion chamber.

ISO 23933:2006 specifies requirements for aramid reinforced lightweight polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) hose assemblies for use in aircraft hydraulic, oil and fuel systems at temperatures between -55 °C and 135 °C (-65 °F and 275 °F) and at a nominal pressure of 21 000 kPa (210 bar) (3 046 psi) or 20 684 kPa (3 000 psi). The hose assemblies are also suitable for use within the same temperature and pressure limitations in aircraft pneumatic systems where some gaseous diffusion through the wall of the PTFE liner may be tolerated.

ISO 7314 gives specifications for medium pressure, high temperature, flexible metal hose assemblies suitable for continuous operation in liquid and pneumatic systems from - 55 °C to + 400 °C, with short duration excursions up to + 650 °C. The hose assemblies covered by this International Standard are intended for use in aerospace applications for conveying air and other gases in pneumatic systems, bleed air systems, heating and ventilating systems and instrument air systems. ISO 7314 does not cover flow velocity in such assemblies exceeding 54 m/s; higher velocities require special vibration-dampening devices. Hose assemblies supplied to the specifications laid down in this International Standard may be of two types: Type 1: Convoluted inner tube - welded, of moderate mass and moderate flexibility. Type 2: Convoluted inner tube - seamless or butt-welded and redrawn, of low mass and high flexibility.
