Overview

kSIST FprEN IEC 60335-2-26:2025/kFprAA:2025 is a European standard developed by the CLC Technical Committee 61 focusing on the safety of household and similar electrical appliances, specifically electric clocks. This standard covers clocks with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V, including devices powered by direct current (DC) or batteries. It builds upon and supplements EN IEC 60335-2-26:2025, incorporating the latest amendments to address foreseeable hazards in electric clock appliances to ensure consumer safety.

The standard emphasizes practical safety requirements tailored to electric clocks used in homes and similar environments. It considers typical user interactions and highlights the need to account for persons with disabilities by acknowledging that their needs might extend beyond the standard's scope.

Key Topics

  • Scope and Application
Addresses electric clocks operating at rated voltages up to 250 V (including DC supplied and battery-operated clocks). It covers reasonably foreseeable hazards encountered by all users during normal use.

  • Safety Requirements
Focuses on electrical safety measures, including insulation, protection against electric shock, overheating, mechanical hazards, and fire safety specific to clock mechanisms.

  • User Considerations
Recognizes the diversity of users, including those with disabilities, indicating awareness that additional safety considerations may be necessary beyond this standard.

  • Harmonization with Other Standards
Works in conjunction with EN IEC 60335-1:2023 and related parts of IEC 60335 standards, ensuring comprehensive safety coverage.

  • Normative and Informative Annexes
Includes updated references to international publications such as IEC 60584-1 for thermocouple specifications, and addresses compliance with EU directives and regulations related to electrical equipment safety.

Applications

  • Residential and Domestic Use
Suitable for manufacturers and designers of electric clocks intended for household use, ensuring their products comply with recognized safety requirements.

  • Battery and DC-Powered Clocks
Applies safety criteria to clocks powered by batteries or DC sources, common in portable and specialty clock designs.

  • Wall Clocks, Alarm Clocks, and Digital Clocks
Covers a wide range of electric clocks including wall-mounted and bedside alarm clocks, addressing particular safety concerns for each type.

  • Market Compliance and Certification
Provides a basis for conformity assessment and certification within the European Economic Area, supporting manufacturers in meeting mandatory safety requirements under EU law.

Related Standards

  • EN IEC 60335-1:2023
The general safety requirements for household and similar electrical appliances that underpin Part 2-26.

  • IEC 60584-1
Covers electromotive force (EMF) specifications and tolerances for thermocouples, referenced for temperature-related safety tests.

  • EU Directives and Regulations
Compliance with Directive 2014/35/EU (Low Voltage Directive) and other relevant regulatory frameworks is integral to the application of this standard.

  • Other IEC 60335 Parts
Related Part 2 standards address safety requirements for other household appliances ensuring coherent application of safety principles.
