Overview
SIST EN 12426:2001 is a European standard developed by CEN that specifies the classification of air permeability for industrial, commercial, and garage doors and gates. This standard applies to doors in a fully closed position, tested in accordance with EN 12427, ensuring consistent measures of air leakage performance. The doors covered are designed for installation in areas accessible to people, including industrial, commercial, and residential settings. Doors may be either manually or power-operated, provided they comply with the related standard prEN 13241:1998.
The standard focuses on determining air permeability, which is essential for assessing environmental control, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality. By classifying doors according to their air leakage characteristics, SIST EN 12426:2001 helps manufacturers, architects, and building owners select the appropriate door solutions based on performance needs.

The SIST EN 12426:2001 standard provides a comprehensive framework for assessing the air permeability of industrial, commercial, and garage doors and gates when closed. It establishes a clear classification for air permeability, allowing manufacturers and users to understand and quantify the air leakage performance of these doors. This standard is particularly relevant for installations in environments where people are present, ensuring safe access for goods, vehicles, and individuals in both industrial and residential settings. One of the strengths of this standard is its detailed testing methodology, which aligns with EN 12427, providing a reliable basis for measurement and classification. This ensures that doors can be consistently evaluated, enabling stakeholders to make informed choices based on performance data. The incorporation of various types of doors, including both manually and power-operated options, highlights the wide applicability of this standard across different contexts. Furthermore, the SIST EN 12426:2001 offers clarity by specifying exclusions, such as lock gates, vehicle doors, and various other types that do not fall within its classification scope. This helps to focus the standard on the specific categories of doors it intends to address, reducing ambiguities in application and compliance. Overall, the relevance of this standard in today's market is underscored by the increasing demand for energy efficiency and building regulations that consider air permeability as a key performance indicator. By providing clear guidelines for assessing air leakage, SIST EN 12426:2001 plays a crucial role in promoting better practices and enhancing the operational performance of doors in various applications.
