Overview

EN 62094-1:2003/A11:2003 is Amendment A11 to the European Standard EN 62094-1:2003 covering indicator light units for household and similar fixed electrical installations - Part 1: General requirements. Published by CENELEC (approved 2003-07-01) and converted in legacy records (2021: CLC legacy converted by DCLab NISOSTS), this amendment clarifies national provisions and adds a normative annex addressing special national conditions. Relevant ICS codes: 29.120.99, 29.140.99.

Key Topics

  • Scope and status: Amendment A11 modifies EN 62094-1:2003 and was issued under the CENELEC Unique Acceptance Procedure. National implementation and withdrawal dates were specified to harmonize adoption across members.
  • Normative Annex ZB: Annex ZB is included as a normative annex in this amendment and provides special national conditions that affect harmonization and national application.
  • Notes and national guidance: Notes prefixed with "Z" (for example, NOTE Z1) point users to Annex ZB for national special conditions that may influence safety measures and installation practice.
  • Protection against electric shock: The amendment adds national guidance (NOTE Z1) directing readers to Annex ZB for special national conditions affecting earthing and protection requirements.
  • Country-specific provisions: Annex ZB lists examples of special national conditions (normative for affected countries, informative for others). Two explicit examples in the amendment:
    • Belgium (Clause 7.4): Design B is generally not used in installation practice except for fixed surface-type indicator light units rated IPX4 and IPX5.
    • Denmark and Finland (Clause 10.2.2): Many older buildings lack an earthing conductor; accessories requiring earth connection are normally not usable in these existing installations.

Applications

This amendment and the base standard are relevant to:

  • Manufacturers and designers of indicator light units for household and similar fixed electrical installations
  • Product compliance and type testing to meet European and national safety requirements
  • National committees and installers who must apply special national conditions (earthing practice, IP protection considerations)

Practical value: by clarifying national exceptions and making Annex ZB normative where applicable, the amendment helps ensure products are selected and installed in a way that respects both European harmonization goals and entrenched national practices.
