BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 154, Marking of Rolled, Drawn and Extruded Products in
Light Metals or in Light Alloys for Shipbuilding, was drawn up by Technical Committee
ISO/TC 8, Shipbuilding Details, the Secretariat of which is held by the Stichting Nederlands Nor-
malisatie-instituut ("1).
At its first meeting, held in Paris, in January 1954, Working Group ISO/TC 8/WG 1,
Light Metals and their Alloys for Shipbuilding, decided to draft a proposal for the standardization
marking of light metals and their alloys applied in shipbuilding.
At the second meeting, held in Dusseldorf, in December 1954, this subject has been con-
sidered. A proposal drawn up by France was discussed at the third meeting, held in The Hague,
in November 1955. At the fourth meeting, held in Genoa, in November 1956, a draft proposal
based on the proposal of France was discussed and approved with the addition, on the request
of Italy, that markings should only be carried out at the explicit demand of the customers.
At the fifth meeting of the Working Group, held in Paris, in November 1957, the revised
draft proposal was discussed again and was agreed to by all the delegates present.
Final approval of all the members of the Working Group was obtained in February 1958.
The final draft proposal was distributed to all the members of the Technical Committee on
28 April 1958; no objection having been raised against this draft proposal, it was adopted as a
Draft IS0 Recommendation.
On 12 December 1958, the Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 267) was distributed to all
the IS0 Member Bodies and was approved, subject to some amendments, by the following
Member Bodies :

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 154, Marquage des produits laminés et $lés en métaux légers
ou en alliages légerspour la construction navale, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 8,
Constructions navales, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par le Stichting Nederlands Normalisatie-
instituut (”1).
Au cours de sa première réunion, tenue à Paris, en janvier 1954, le Groupe de Travail
ISO/TC 8/GT 1, Métaux légers et leurs alliages, décida d’établir un avant-projet concernant la
normalisation du marquage des métaux légers et leurs alliages utilisés dans la construction
navale.
A la deuxième réunion, tenue à Dusseldorf, en décembre 1954, cette question a été examinée.
Une proposition établie par la France fut discutée à la troisième réunion, tenue à La Haye, en
novembre 1955. Au cours de la quatrième réunion, tenue à Gênes, en novembre 1956, un avant-
projet établi sur les bases de la proposition de la France fut discuté et approuvé après adjonction,
sur la requête de l’Italie, que les marquages figureraient uniquement à la demande explicite des
commettants.
Au cours de la cinquième réunion du Groupe de Travail, tenue à Paris, en novembre 1957,
l’avant-projet revisé fut discuté à nouveau et accepté par tous les délégués présents.
L’approbation finale de tous les membres du Groupe de Travail fut obtenue en février 1958.
L’avant-projet définitif fut distribué à tous les membres du Comité Technique, le 28 avril 1958 et,
aucune objection n’ayant été formulée, l’avant-projet fut adopté comme Projet de Recomman-
dation ISO.
En date du 12 décembre 1958, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 267) fut distribué à
tous les Comités Membres de I’ISO et approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modificat
