AVANT-PROPOS
1) La CEI (Commission Électrotechnique Internationale) est une organisation mondiale de normalisation
composée de l'ensemble des comités électrotechniques nationaux (Comités nationaux de la CEI). La CEI a
pour objet de favoriser la coopération internationale pour toutes les questions de normalisation dans les
domaines de l'électricité et de l'électronique. A cet effet, la CEI, entre autres activités, publie des Normes
internationales. Leur élaboration est confiée à des comités d'études, aux travaux desquels tout Comité national

61H/90/RVD] et de son amendement 2 (1999) [documents 61H/130/FDIS et 61H/133/RVD].
Elle porte le numéro d'édition 1.2.

La présente partie 2 doit être utilisée conjointement avec la dernière édition de la CEI 60335-1 et

FOREWORD
1) The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is to promote
international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
this end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes International Standards. Their preparation is
entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with may
participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. The IEC collaborates closely with the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the
two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of the IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an
international consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation
from all interested National Committees.
3) The documents produced have the form of recommendations for international use and are published in the form
of standards, technical specifications, technical reports or guides and they are accepted by the National
Committees in that sense.

This part of International Standard IEC 60335 has been prepared by sub-committee 61H:
Safety of electrically operated farm appliances, of IEC technical committee 61: Safety of
household and similar electrical appliances.
It constitutes the first edition of IEC 60335-2-71.

This consolidated version of IEC 60335-2-71 is based on the first edition (1993) [documents
61H(CO)31 and 61H(CO)37], its amendment 1 (1996) [documents 61H/88/FDIS and
61H/90/RVD] and its amendment 2 (1999) [documents 61H/130/FDIS and 61H/133/RVD].
It bears the edition number 1.2.
A vertical line in the margin shows where the base publication has been modified by
amendments 1 and 2.
This part 2 is to be used in conjunction with the latest edition of IEC 60335-1 and its
amendments. It was established on the basis of the third edition (1991) of that standard.

This part 2 supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses of IEC 60335-1, so as to

convert it into IEC standard: Safety requirements for electric heating appliances for breeding

and keeping animals.
Where a particular subclause of part 1 is not mentioned in this part 2, that subclause applies

as far as is reasonable. Where this standard states "addition", "modification" or
"replacement", the relevant text in part 1 is to be adapted accordingly.

La présente Norme internationale traite de la sécurité de toutes sortes d'appareils chauffants
électriques pour animaux utilisés pour la reproduction et l'élevage des animaux, tels
qu'appareils de chauffage radiants, couveuses électriques, incubateurs, unités
d'élevage de poulets et plaques chauffantes pour animaux, la tension assignée des
appareils n'étant pas supérieure à 250 V pour les appareils monophasés et à 480 V pour les
autres appareils.
NOTE 1 – La présente norme s'applique aux appareils de chauffage, destinés à la reproduction et à l'élevage des
animaux, qui comportent un moteur électrique.
NOTE 2 – L'attention est attirée sur le fait que:
– pour les appareils destinés à être utilisés dans des véhicules ou à bord de navires ou d'avions, des règles
supplémentaires peuvent être nécessaires;

2 Définitions

1 Scope
This clause of part 1 is replaced by:
This standard deals with the safety of all kinds of electrical heating appliances used for
livestock rearing and breeding, such as:
heat-radiating appliances, electrical sitting-hens,
incubators, chicken breeding units and heating plates for animals, the rated voltage of
the appliances being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other
appliances.
NOTE 1 – This standard applies to heating appliances used for livestock rearing and breeding, which include an
electrical motor.
NOTE 2 – Attention is drawn to the fact that:
– for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be
necessary;
– for appliances intended to be used in tropical countries, special requirements may be necessary;
– in many countries, additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national
authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities.
NOTE 3 – This standard does not apply to:
– appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes;
– appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a
corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas);
– heating units embedded in the floor;
– thin sheet heating units;
– room heaters (see IEC 60335-2-30).
2 Definitions
This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:
2.2.9 Replacement:
normal operation: The appliance is operated as in normal use, in still air.
2.2.101 heat-radiating appliance: Electrical heating appliance which conveys the effective
heat mainly by radiation.
NOTE – Appliances of this type which, when measured at the hottest point on the radiator while operated under
conditions of normal operation, have a temperature rise not exceeding 95 K, are considered to be heating plates
for animals and not heat-radiating appliances.

6.1 Remplacement:
Les appareils doivent être de la classe I, de la classe II ou de la classe III d'après la
protection contre les chocs électriques.

Les appareils qui, en fonctionnement normal, sont posés au sol, à l'exception de ceux qui
sont destinés à être scellés dans le sol et à être raccordés de façon permanente aux
canalisations fixes, doivent être des appareils de la classe III dont la tension assignée ne
dépasse pas 24 V.
La vérification est effectuée par examen et par les essais appropriés.
6.2 Remplacement:
Les appareils chauffants qui sont utilisés au sol en fonctionnement normal, ou qui sont
destinés à être utilisés à moins de 500 mm du sol, doivent être de construction IPX7.
Les autres appareils doivent être au moins de construction IPX4.
La vérification est effectuée par examen et par les essais appropriés.

4 General conditions for the tests
This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:

Up to two additional samples of the means of suspension of portable heat radiating
appliances, which are not operated on the floor in normal use, shall be provided for the tests
of 22.104.

This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:
6.1 Replacement:
Appliances shall be of class I, class II or class III with respect to protection against electric
shock.
Appliances which in normal use are used on the floor, except those intended to be built into

the floor and permanently connected to the fixed wiring, shall be class III appliances and
shall have a rated voltage not exceeding 24 V.
Compliance is checked by inspection and by the relevant tests.
6.2 Replacement:
Heating appliances which are operated at floor level in normal use or are intended to be
operated less than 500 mm above the floor shall be of class IPX7 construction.
Other appliances shall be at least of class IPX4 construction.
Compliance is checked by inspection and by the relevant tests.

7 Marking and instructions
This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:

7.1 Addition:
Heat-radiating appliances shall be marked with the following:

WARNING: FIRE RISK
– heat-radiating appliance for animals;
– maximum rating of replaceable radiators: . W;
– the minimum distance between the radiator and animals or inflammable material shall not
be less than . mm in the direction of the radiation;
– the appliance shall be securely fixed in position;
– the screen shall not be removed;
– do not cover the appliance.
CAUTION !
Observe the instructions for use.
Chicken breeding units and electrical sitting-hens shall be marked with the following:

Heating appliances for animals with rated voltage up to 24 V shall be marked with the

7.12.1 Addition:
Instructions for use shall accompany the appliance and shall contain at least the following
details:
–for heat-radiating appliances with replaceable radiators, the radiator types applicable to
the appliance together with an instruction stating that only the specified types are to be
used when renewing the radiators;
– a clear and intelligible explanation as to why portable heat radiating appliances which
are not operated on the floor in normal use, are not to be hung lower than is indicated on
the appliance;

– une instruction détaillée pour le nettoyage de l'appareil indiquant spécialement que

l'élément chauffant ou radiateur doit rester sans poussière ni autres particules sales et

que l'appareil doit être déconnecté de l'alimentation pendant le nettoyage;
– une instruction indiquant que les appareils endommagés ne doivent pas être utilisés;
– une note indiquant que les réparations doivent être faites seulement par du personnel
convenablement qualifié.
7.14 Addition:
Les marquages supplémentaires prescrits en 7.1 doivent avoir une hauteur d'au moins:
– 5 mm pour les titres;
– 3 mm pour les autres lettres.
8 Protection contre l'accès aux parties actives
L'article de la partie 1 est applicable avec l'exception suivante:
8.1 Addition:
Cette prescription ne s'applique pas aux parties actives des douilles à vis ou baïonnettes
incorporées dans les appareils de chauffage radiants et qui ne sont accessibles que
lorsque le radiateur est retiré.
9 Démarrage des appareils à moteur
L'article de la partie 1 n'est pas applicable.
10 Puissance et courant
L'article de la partie 1 est applicable.
11 Echauffements
L'article de la partie 1 est applicable avec les exceptions suivantes:
11.2 Addition:
Les appareils de chauffage radiants mobiles qui ne sont pas destinés à être placés sur le
sol en fonctionnement normal doivent être suspendus librement, en air calme, au-dessus d'un
support en contreplaqué peint en noir mat de 20 mm d'épaisseur environ. La distance entre
l'appareil et le support en contreplaqué doit être celle indiquée sur l'appareil.

–for portable heat-radiating appliances which are not operated on the floor in normal use,

instructions for fixing the appliance by its means of suspension;

– a clear statement that heat-radiating appliances shall not be mounted less than 500 mm,
or a greater distance if specified by the manufacturer, from animals or inflammable
material;
– an instruction stating that supply cords shall be placed or protected so as not to be

accessible by animals;
– a detailed instruction for cleaning the appliance, stating especially that the heating

element or radiator is to be kept clear of dust or other dirt particles and that the appliance

is to be disconnected from the power supply during cleaning;

– an instruction stating that damaged appliances shall not be used;
– a note stating that repairs shall be carried out only by a suitably qualified person.
7.14 Addition:
Markings required by the addition to 7.1 shall have a height not less than:
– 5 mm for headlines;
– 3 mm for other lettering.
8 Protection against access to live parts
This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:
8.1 Addition:
This requirement does not apply to live parts of screw-type or bayonet-type lampholders
incorporated in heat-radiating appliances which are accessible only when the radiator is
extracted.
9 Starting of motor-operated appliances
This clause of part 1 is not applicable.
10 Power input and current
This clause of part 1 is applicable.

11 Heating
This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows:
11.2 Addition:
Portable heat-radiating appliances which are not intended to be operated on the floor in
normal use shall be freely hung, in still air, above a support of dull black-painted plywood
having a thickness of approximately 20 mm. The distance between the appliance and the
plywood support shall be that marked on the appliance.
