Overview

EN 13032-3:2021 is a European standard developed by CEN that specifies the data requirements for lamps and luminaires used in emergency lighting of workplaces. It focuses on defining photometric data necessary for verifying conformity with EN 1838, the standard setting performance criteria for emergency lighting. This part 3 of the EN 13032 series addresses the presentation of photometric data specifically for emergency lighting systems, whether the light sources are replaceable or non-replaceable.

The standard complements EN 13032-1 and EN 13032-4, covering general measurement and LED-specific data, respectively. EN 13032-3:2021 replaces the previous 2007 edition and incorporates advancements such as LED technology inclusion and expanded data requirements for various emergency lighting configurations.

Key Topics

  • Scope and Application
EN 13032-3:2021 applies to lamps and luminaires intended for emergency workplace lighting and specifies essential and useful photometric data for their assessment. Signage-related emergency lighting data falls under EN 1838 and is excluded from this standard.

  • Photometric Data Presentation
The standard outlines how to present luminous intensity information in absolute or normalized tables. Normalization relates luminous intensities to a lamp flux of 1000 lumens to allow comparative analysis and designer calculations.

  • Light Source Data Requirements
For luminaires with replaceable lamps, detailed lamp information must be provided, including:

    • Lamp code and physical dimensions
    • Luminous flux under emergency operation
    • Lamp lumen maintenance and survival factors
    • Colour rendering and nominal wattage
  • Luminaire Data Requirements
    Essential data includes:

    • Luminaire type references for identification
    • Practical emergency luminous flux and relevant correction factors
    • Luminous intensity distribution tables (C-plane and γ-angle measurements)
    • Maintenance, survival, and service correction factors accounting for ambient temperature, voltage changes, and operational conditions
  • Maintenance and Survival Factors
These parameters help in planning optimal maintenance schedules ensuring emergency lighting reliability over its lifetime.

  • Data Format and Measurement Conditions
Photometric measurements are standardized at 25 °C ambient temperature and nominal voltage conditions for consistent and comparable data reporting.

Applications

  • Emergency Workplace Lighting Design
Helps lighting designers and engineers select proper emergency luminaires by providing comprehensive photometric data for safe illumination during power failures or emergencies.

  • Conformity Assessment
Manufacturers and compliance bodies use this data to verify that products meet the safety and performance requirements outlined in EN 1838.

  • Maintenance Planning
Maintenance managers benefit from lamp and luminaire survival and lumen maintenance factors to optimize replacement schedules and ensure system reliability.

  • Integration with LED Technologies
Tackles modern LED-based emergency lighting, enabling accurate data presentation for both replaceable and non-replaceable light sources, supporting energy-efficient solutions.

Related Standards

  • EN 1838 – Specifies lighting requirements and performance criteria for emergency lighting installations, complementing EN 13032-3 by defining the functional aspects.

  • EN 13032-1 – Details measurement methods and data file formats for photometric data of lamps and luminaires, providing foundational procedures.

  • EN 13032-4 – Addresses lighting data specifics for LED lamps, modules, and luminaires, expanding on LED technology advancements relevant to emergency lighting.

  • EN 12665 – Defines basic lighting terms and criteria for specifying lighting requirements, ensuring consistent terminology and concepts.

  • CENELEC Documents – Offer additional product safety and performance information relevant to emergency lighting equipment.
