Diese Norm legt zusammen mit EN 28178-1 die Meß- und Auswerteverfahren für gasförmige und partikelförmige Abgasemissionen von Hubkolben-Verbrennungsmotoren unter stationären Betriebsbedingungen am Einsatzort fest und dient dazu, einen leistungsbezogenen Emissionswert jeder Schadstoffkomponente im Abgas zu ermitteln. Verschiedene Kombinationen von Motorbelastung und Drehzahl gelten für verschiedene Motoranwendungen (siehe EN 28178-4).
