This European standard defines requirements of pressure gauges for inflation of tyre and their testing in accordance with 86/217/EEC Directive. It establishes in the context of motor vehicles tyres, the minimum characteristics of the chain of measurement of mechanical apparatus intended to increase, inspect or adjust the pressure of tyres inflated by air or nitrogen. This apparatus classified in four different categories are hereinafter referred to by generic term, "pressure gauges".

Diese Europäische Norm legt Anforderungen und deren Prüfung für Reifendruckmeßgeräte zum Füllen von Reifen übereinstimmend mit der Richtlinie 86/217/EWG fest. Sie stellt im Zusammenhang mit Kraftfahrzeugreifen die Mindestmerkmale der Meßkette einer mechanischen Anlage zur Erhöhung, Prüfung oder Einstellung des Druckes von mit Luft oder Stickstoff gefüllten Reifen dar. Diese in vier verschiedene Gruppen eingeteilten Anlagen werden nachstehend als "Reifendruckmeßgeräte" bezeichnet.

La présente norme européenne définit les prescriptions des manomètres pour le gonflage des pneumatiques et les essais correspondants, conformément à la Directive 86/217/CEE. Elle fixe, dans le cadre d'une application aux véhicules automobiles, les caractéristiques minimales de la chaîne de mesurage des appareils mécaniques destinés à gonfler, vérifier ou ajuster la pression des pneumatiques gonflés à l'air ou à l'azote. Ces appareils, classés en quatre catégories différentes, sont désignés ci-après par le terme générique "manomètres".
