This European Standard gives requirements for the selection, installation and safe use of hand-held electrostatic spray guns with an energy limit of 5 mJ and their associated apparatus complying with EN 50 050, which may cause an explosive atmosphere when spraying flammable coating powders. This European Standard considers only the hazards that are specific to the electrostatic characteristics of the electrostatic spraying process when the operator stands outside the booth when spraying. For other aspects such as classification of hazardous areas (e.g. classification into zones), selection, installation and use of electrical equipment in hazardous areas, health hazards (e.g. toxic and skin effects, electric shock), cleaning of powder spraying areas, fire hazard from external sources, storage and handling of flammable materials, explosion protection systems, national regulations apply

This European Standard gives requirements for the selection, installation and safe use of hand-held electrostatic flock spray-guns and their associated apparatus complying with EN 50 050 for the following cases when: flock spraying in association with adhesives which can form an explosive atmosphere, then the energy limit of the spray gun shall be 0.24 mJ; flock spraying in association with adhesives which do not form an explosive atmosphere, then the energy limit of the spray gun shall be 0.5 mJ. This European Standard considers only the hazards that are specific to the electrostatic characteristics of the electrostatic spraying process. For other aspects such as classification of hazardous areas (e.g. classification into zones), selection, installation and use of electrical equipment in hazardous areas, health hazards (e.g. toxic and skin effects, electric shock), cleaning of flock spraying areas, fire hazard from external sources, storage and handling of flammable materials, explosion protection systems, national regulations apply. Note: applications of flock spray guns used only in association with adhesives do not form an explosive atmosphere and where the ignition energy of flock is greater than 500 mJ are being considered by CENELEC/TC 104.

This European Standard contains the specific requirements for the construction and testing of electrical apparatus with type of protection pressurization p intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. This European Standard supplements European Standard EN 50014, the requirements of which apply to electrical apparatus with type of protection p. This European Standard includes the requirements for the construction of the enclosure and its associated components, including if any, the inlet and outlet ducts for the protective gas, and for the safety provisions and devices necessary for the type of protection pressurization p. This European Standard specifies the requirements for pressurized enclosures with or without an internal source of release, with the exceptions given hereafter. This European Standard specifies requirement for pressurized enclosures containing an unlimited source of release of flammable gas or vapour only where the unlimited source of release is from the surface of a liquid. This European Standard does not contain requirements for pressurized rooms or analyser houses. This European Standard does not contain the requirements for pressurized enclosures where, in a containment system with limited or unlimited release there is: air with an oxygen content greater than normal, or oxygen in combination with inert gas in a proportion greater than 21%. Due to the safety factors incorporated in the type of protection the uncertainty of measurement inherent in good quality, regularly calibrated measurement equipment is considered to have no significant detrimental effect and need not be taken into account when making the measurements necessary to verify compliance of the apparatus with the requirements of this standard

This European Standard specifies the construction and testing of intrinsically safe apparatus, intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and for associated apparatus, which is intended for connection to intrinsically safe circuits which enter such atmospheres. This European Standard supplements EN 50014: 1992 Electrical apparatus for potentially explosive atmospheres - general requirements edition 1992, the requirements of which apply to intrinsically safe apparatus and to associated apparatus with some exceptions. If associated apparatus is protected by a type of protection listed in EN 50014 then the requirements of that method of protection together with the relevant Parts of EN 50014 also apply to the associated apparatus. The list of exclusions which follows is directly applicable to associated apparatus intended for use in situations where there is no potentially hazardous atmosphere and in other circumstances should be used in combination with the requirements of the other methods of protection. This standard is applicable to electrical apparatus in which the electrical circuits themselves are incapable of causing an explosion in the surrounding explosive atmosphere. This standard is also applicable to electrical apparatus or parts of electrical apparatus located outside the potentially explosive atmosphere or protected by another type of protection listed in EN 50014, where the intrinsic safety of the electrical circuits in the potentially explosive atmosphere may depend upon the design and construction of such electrical apparatus or parts of such electrical apparatus. The electrical circuits exposed to the potentially explosive atmosphere are evaluated for use in such an atmosphere by applying this standard. Note: methods of interconnection of intrinsically safe apparatus and associated apparatus are specified in EN 50039
