General Information
This document specifies safety requirements, test procedures, and establishes minimum acceptance criteria for the application of telescopic mechanical screw- and nut-type drawbar jacks and hydraulic drawbar jacks intended to be fitted on the implement tongue of interchangeable towed machinery and hereafter referred to as "implement(s)" as original equipment or jacks fitted with a jack attachment mount. This document applies to implement mounted jacks or jacks fitted with a jack attachment mount. These jacks are used specifically for supporting the hitch points of implements during storage, lifting and lowering of implement tongues to facilitate attaching to or disconnecting from an agricultural tractor and levelling of machinery for stationary use. The drawbars are those which are designed to couple with the mechanical connections of towing vehicles.

This document covers conventional and swing-away portable agricultural augers designed primarily for conveying agricultural materials on farms. This document deals with all significant hazards (as listed in Annex A), hazardous situations and events relevant to seed drills, when they are used as intended and under the conditions of misuse foreseeable by the manufacturer, excepting the hazards arising from — electrostatic phenomena, — external influences on electrical equipment, — failure of energy supply, — failure and/or malfunction of the control system, — inadequate visibility from drivers'/operators' position, — travelling functions (drive, braking, etc.), — break down of parts rotating at high speed, — equipment for loading seeds (and fertilizer), and — moving parts for power transmission except for strength requirements for guards. This document is not applicable to — fertilizer distributors designed only for solid fertilizer application (covered in ISO 4254-8), — maintenance or repairs carried out by professional service personnel, or — to environmental hazards (except noise), and — to seed drills which are manufactured before the date of its publication. When requirements of this document are different from those which are stated in ISO 4254-1, the requirements of this document take precedence over the requirements of ISO 4254-1 for machines that have been designed and built according to the provisions of this document.

ISO 4254-5:2018 is not applicable to - spading machines, and - machines fitted with a retractable device making them capable of working between two successive plants in the same row. ISO 4254-5:2018 is not applicable to environmental hazards. It is not applicable to hazards related to moving parts for power transmission (except for strength requirements for guards and barriers) or to maintenance or repairs carried out by professional service personnel. NOTE 1 Specific requirements related to road traffic regulations are not taken into account in this document. NOTE 2 Vibrations are not regarded as a significant hazard in the case of mounted, semi-mounted or trailed machines. ISO 4254-5:2018 is not applicable to power-driven soil-working machines which are manufactured before the date of its publication. ISO 4254-8:2018 is neither applicable to maintenance or repairs carried out by professional service personnel nor to environmental hazards (except noise). ISO 4254-8:2018 is not applicable to the following: - combined seed and fertilizer drills which create a soil trench and deposit fertilizer in said trench; - machines for distributing granulated pesticides; - pedestrian controlled distributors; - knapsack distributors. ISO 4254-8:2018 is not applicable to solid fertilizer distributors which are manufactured before the date of its publication. When requirements of this document are different from those which are stated in ISO 4254‑1, the requirements of this document take precedence over the requirements of ISO 4254‑1 for machines that have been designed and built according to the provisions of this document.

ISO 17962:2015 specifies various means of minimizing the environmental effects of fan exhaust from pneumatic systems for vacuum-style sowing agricultural field equipment used for sowing coated seeds. It is applicable to vacuum-style sowing systems where "dust off" (fugitive) material from seed coatings can mix with fan (blower) intake air and be exhausted into the atmosphere. ISO 17962:2015 is not applicable to - conveyance systems between a central tank and remote meters where the air is exhausted at the remote meters, and - conveyance systems where the meter is at a central tank and the air is exhaust at a ground engaging opening device. The design principles in this International Standard are not applicable to pneumatic equipment for sowing which was manufactured before the date of its publication. NOTE National or local requirements can apply which could be more stringent.

ISO 4254-1:2013 is not applicable to hazards related to periodic service, machine conversion and repairs intended to be carried out by professional service personnel, environmental hazards, road safety (e.g. steering, braking), or to the power take-off (PTO) drive shaft; neither is it applicable to guards of moving parts for power transmission except for strength requirements for guards and barriers. ISO 4254-1:2013 is not applicable to machines which are manufactured before the date of its publication. Not all of the hazards dealt with by ISO 4254-1:2013 are necessarily present on a particular machine. A risk assessment should be carried out by the manufacturer to determine the hazards that are applicable and any hazards in addition to those dealt with by this part or a relevant machine-specific part. The requirements of a machine-specific part of ISO 4254 take precedence over the requirements of this part.

It provides design guidance on actuation forces for hand and foot controls in relation to their displacement, frequency of use and location, and is applicable to the typical operation of these tractors and self-propelled machines by upright-seated operators.
