Code for designation of colours (IEC 60757:2021)
This International Standard specifies letter codes for designation of colours and provides rules for their combination to designate colour combinations. The letter codes are intended to be applied in the technical documentation of industrial installations, equipment and products, and in markings of equipment and products.
This basic safety publication is primarily intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51.
It is not intended for use by manufacturers or certification bodies. One of the responsibilities of a technical committee is, wherever applicable, to make use of basic safety publications in the preparation of its publications. The requirements of this basic safety publication will not apply unless specifically referred to or included in the relevant publications.
This International Standard does not specify any requirements for the encoding of colour properties, nor for their visual representation. Such requirements are under the responsibility of the different technical committees.

L'IEC 60757:2021 spécifie les codes littéraux de désignation de couleurs et donne des règles régissant leur combinaison, afin de désigner les combinaisons de couleurs. Les codes littéraux sont destinés à être appliqués dans la documentation technique des installations électriques, des équipements et produits électriques, ainsi que dans les marquages des équipements et produits électriques.
La présente publication fondamentale de sécurité portant sur des exigences essentielles de sécurité est avant tout destinée à être utilisée par les comités d’études dans le cadre de l’élaboration de publications de sécurité, conformément aux principes établis dans le Guide IEC 104 et le Guide lSO/lEC 51.
Elle n’est pas destinée à être utilisée par les fabricants ou les organismes de certification. L’une des responsabilités d’un comité d’études consiste, le cas échéant, à utiliser les publications fondamentales de sécurité dans le cadre de l’élaboration de ses publications. Les exigences de la présente publication fondamentale de sécurité ne s’appliquent pas tant qu’il n’y a pas été fait spécifiquement référence ou qu’elles n’ont pas été incluses dans les publications concernées.
Le présent document ne spécifie pas d’exigences relatives au codage des propriétés des couleurs, ni à leur représentation visuelle. De telles exigences relèvent de la responsabilité des différents comités d’études.
L'IEC 60757:2021 annule et remplace la première édition parue en 1983. Cette édition constitue une révision technique.
Cette édition inclut les modifications techniques majeures suivantes par rapport à l'édition précédente:
a) restriction des codes à des codes littéraux;
b) suppression des anciennes notes superflues;
c) ajout d’un paragraphe sur un élément utilisant différentes couleurs par alternance;
d) ajout de l'0 avec des exemples de couleurs et leur codage RVB (rouge, vert, bleu) correspondant.

IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and approved by CENELEC as EN IEC 60757:2021.
The following dates are fixed:
• latest date by which the document has to be implemented at national (dop) 2022–04–21
level by publication of an identical national standard or by endorsement
• latest date by which the national standards conflicting with the (dow) 2024–07–21
document have to be withdrawn
This document supersedes HD 457 S1:1985 and all of its amendments and corrigenda (if any).

FOREWORD
1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote international
co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To this end and
in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports,
Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC Publication(s)”). Their
preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested in the subject dealt with
may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising
with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely with the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by agreement between the two organizations.
2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
interested IEC National Committees.
