Overview

IEC 60115-9-1:2003 is a blank detail specification published by the IEC for fixed surface mount resistor networks with individually measurable resistors (assessment level EZ). It is a supplementary document to the sectional specification (IEC 60115-9) and defines the required style, layout and minimum content for detail specifications used by manufacturers, test laboratories and procurers. The document ensures consistency in how detail specifications are written and how product requirements, inspection and testing schedules are presented.

Key topics and technical requirements

  • Scope and identification: Guidance on what information must appear on the detail specification (identifying IEC and national references, style, outline drawings, assessment level EZ and reference data).
  • Product description: Requirements for short descriptions, typical construction, outline drawings or references and key reference properties to allow product comparison.
  • Dimensions, ratings and characteristics: Templates for specifying rated dissipation, limiting voltage, insulation voltages, resistance range, tolerances, climatic category, stability class and temperature coefficient (α).
  • Derating and mounting: Requirement to include a derating curve and recommended mounting method(s).
  • Marking and ordering information: Mandatory marking rules (per IEC 60115-1 and IEC 60115-9) and minimum ordering data (resistance, tolerance, detail-spec number, packaging).
  • Inspection and test schedules: Detailed lot-by-lot and periodic test tables (Group A/B/C/D inspections) covering visual, dimensional, solderability, voltage proof, insulation resistance, overload, solvent resistance, climatic and endurance tests. Acceptance criteria are presented generically (for example ΔR ≤ ±(...%R + ...Ω)) and sampling follows IEC 60410 single sampling plans.
  • Qualification and quality conformance: Procedures for qualification approval, sampling sizes, periodicity and rules for destructive vs non-destructive tests; 100% testing recommendations and re-inspection guidance.

Applications

  • Creating or reviewing detail specifications for fixed surface mount resistor networks used in electronics assemblies.
  • Defining supplier procurement requirements and contractual test/inspection obligations.
  • Establishing factory quality conformance and lot-release procedures for resistor network production.
  • Guiding test labs and compliance engineers on required test types, sampling plans and presentation of results.

Who uses this standard

  • Resistor and component manufacturers
  • Product designers and electronic assemblers
  • Quality, procurement and compliance engineers
  • Test laboratories and certification bodies
