Ta del standarda IEC 60335 obravnava varnost električnih toplotnih črpalk, vključno s toplotnimi črpalkami za gospodinjsko vročo vodo, klimatskimi napravami, sušilniki zraka z motornimi kompresorji in ventilatorskimi konvektorji voda/zrak, katerih največja nazivna napetost ne presega 250 V za enofazne aparate in 600 V za vse druge aparate. Delne enote spadajo na področje uporabe tega mednarodnega standarda.
Na področje uporabe tega standarda spadajo aparati, ki niso namenjeni za običajno gospodinjsko uporabo, vendar so lahko vir nevarnosti za javnost, kot so aparati, namenjeni za laično uporabo v trgovinah, lahki industriji in na kmetijah.
Navedeni aparati so lahko sestavljeni iz enega sestava ali več. Če zajemajo več kot en sestav, se morajo ločeni sestavi uporabljati skupaj, zahteve pa temeljijo na uporabi združenih sestavov.
OPOMBA 101: Definicija »motornega kompresorja« je podana v standardu IEC 60335-2-34, ki vključuje izjavo, da se izraz motorni kompresor uporablja za označevanje motornega kompresorja hermetičnega ali polhermetičnega tipa.
OPOMBA 102: Zahteve za varnost v zvezi s hlajenjem so zajete v standardih ISO 5149-1, ISO 5149-2 in ISO 5149-3.
Zahteve za posode, namenjene za shranjevanje segrete vode, ki so del toplotnih črpalk za gospodinjsko vročo vodo, so zajete v standardu IEC 60335-2-21.
Ta standard ne obravnava hladilnih sredstev, razen tistih iz skupin A1, A2L, A2 in A3, kot so opredeljene v razvrstitvi standarda ISO 817, hladilna sredstva A2L pa so omejena na tiste z molsko maso 42 kg/kmol ali več na podlagi formulacije v najslabšem primeru (WCF), kot je določeno v standardu ISO 817.
Ta standard določa posebne zahteve za uporabo vnetljivih hladilnih sredstev. Če specifikacije, vključno z dodatki, v tem standardu niso zajete, so zahteve za varnost v zvezi s hlajenjem zajete v standardu ISO 5149.
Ta standard posebej obravnava naslednje dele standarda ISO 5149:
• ISO 5149-1:2014, Hladilni sistemi in toplotne črpalke – Varnostnotehnične in okoljevarstvene zahteve – 1. del: Definicije, razvrstitev in kriteriji za izbiro.
• ISO 5149-2, Hladilni sistemi in toplotne črpalke – Varnostnotehnične in okoljevarstvene zahteve – 2. del: Načrtovanje, izdelava, preskušanje, označevanje in dokumentacija;
• ISO 5149-3:2014, Hladilni sistemi in toplotne črpalke – Varnostnotehnične in okoljevarstvene zahteve – 3. del: Mesto postavitve.
Dodatni grelniki ali ukrepi za njihovo ločeno namestitev spadajo na področje uporabe tega standarda, vendar to velja le za grelnike, ki so zasnovani kot del aparata, pri čemer so kontrole vgrajene v aparat.
OPOMBA 103: Opozoriti je treba, da:
• so za aparate, ki so namenjeni za uporabo v vozilih ali na krovu ladij ali letal, morda potrebne dodatne zahteve;

OPOMBA 104: Ta standard se ne uporablja za:
• vlažilnike zraka, namenjene za uporabo z opremo za ogrevanje in hlajenje (IEC 60335-2-88);
• aparate, zasnovane izključno za industrijsko obdelavo;
• aparate, ki so namenjeni za uporabo na lokacijah, kjer veljajo posebne razmere, kot je prisotnost korozivne ali eksplozivne atmosfere (prah, hlapi ali plin).
