This standard specifies test and calculation methods for the determination of flammability and oxidizing ability of gases and gas mixtures. The first test method determines whether or not a gas is flammable in air. The second test method determines if a gas or gas mixture has a greater or lesser oxidizing ability than that of air. The calculation method uses the characteristics of the pure substances, of which the mixture is composed, to determine the characteristics of the mixture.

Diese Norm legt Prüf- und Berechnungsverfahren für die Bestimmung der Brennbarkeit und des Oxidationsvermögens von Gasen und Gasgemischen fest. Mit dem ersten Verfahren wird bestimmt, ob ein Gas in Luft brennbar ist oder nicht. Mit dem zweiten Prüfverfahren wird bestimmt, ob ein Gas oder Gasgemisch ein größeres oder geringeres Oxidationsvermögen als Luft hat. Das Berechnungsverfahren benutzt die Eigenschaften der reinen Anteile, aus denen das Gemisch zusammengesetzt ist, um die Eigenschaften des Gemisches zu bestimmen.

La présente norme prescrit des méthodes d'essai et de calcul pour la détermination du potentiel d'inflammabilité et d'oxydation des gaz et mélanges de gaz. La première méthode détermine si un gaz est ou n'est pas inflammable à l'air. La seconde détermine si un gaz est plus ou moins oxydant que l'air. La méthode de calcul utilise les caractéristiques des substances pures dont est composé le mélange de gaz afin de déterminer les caractéristiques du mélange.
