This standard specifies the essential safety requirements applicable to the design and construction of strand pelletisers used for plastics and rubber.
The machine begins with the feed opening of the feeding device, or start-up devices if fitted, and ends with the discharge area.
Only the significant hazards listed in clause 4 and dealt with in clause 5 are subject to this standard.
NOTE: Directive 94/9/EC concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres can be applicable to the type of machine or equipment covered by this European Standard. The present standard is not intended to provide means of complying with the essential health and safety requirements of Directive 94/9/EC.
This standard applies to machines which are manufactured after the date of approval of this standard by CEN.

Diese Europäische Norm ist eine Typ C-Norm wie in EN 1070 angegeben.
Auf die betreffenden Maschinen und die behandelten Gefährdungen, Gefährdungssituationen und Gefährdungsereignisse wird im Anwendungsbereich dieses Dokumentes hingewiesen.
Für Maschinen, die nach den Festlegungen dieser Typ C-Norm konzipiert und gebaut worden sind, gilt: Wenn die Festlegungen in dieser Typ C-Norm von den Festlegungen in Typ A- oder B-Normen abweichen, haben die Festlegungen dieser Typ C-Norm Vorrang gegenüber den Festlegungen der anderen Normen.

Cette norme spécifie les exigences essentielles de sécurité relatives à la conception et à la construction des granulateurs à joncs utilisés pour le caoutchouc et les matières plastiques. La machine commence au bord extérieur du dispositif d'alimentation ou au dispositif de démarrage s'il existe et se termine à la zone de déchargement. Les phénomènes dangereux significatifs sont énumérés à l'article 4, les prescriptions et/ou mesures de sécurité spécifiques des granulateurs à joncs sont énumérées à l'article 5. Cette norme s'applique a avant tout aux machines fabriquées après sa date de publication.

Foreword
This European Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 145 "Rubber and
plastics machines - Safety", the secretariat of which is held by UNI.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by January 2002, and conflicting national standards
shall be withdrawn at the latest by January 2002.
This European Standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European
Commission and the European Free Trade Association, and supports essential requirements of EU
Directive(s).
For relationship with EU Directive(s), see informative Annex ZA, which is an integral part of this
standard.
This is the second in a series of standards on the safety of size reduction machines.
Part 1 deals with blade granulators.
Part 3 deals with shredders.
Annex A is normative.
