Power-driven brushes - Part 2: Safety requirements
This document specifies requirements and measures for removal or reduction of hazards resulting from the design and application of power-driven brushes.
NOTE Power-driven brushing tools are e.g. cup brushes, wheel brushes, end brushes, disc brushes, tube brushes and head brushes.
This document also contains procedures and tests for verification of compliance with the requirements as well as safety information for use, which is made available to the user by the manufacturer.
This document does not apply to cylinder brushes and strip brushes, brushes for car washing, vacuum cleaners, floor cleaning, drain and street cleaning machines and dental brushes.

Dieses Dokument legt sicherheitstechnische Anforderungen für kraftbetriebene Bürstwerkzeuge sowie Maßnahmen zur Beseitigung oder Verringerung von Gefährdungen fest, die sich aus der Konstruktion und Anwendung von kraftbetriebenen Bürstwerkzeugen ergeben.
ANMERKUNG Kraftbetriebene Bürstwerkzeuge sind z. B. Topfbürsten, Rundbürsten, Pinselbürsten, Tellerbürsten, Rohrbürsten und Kopfbürsten.
Dieses Dokument umfasst auch Verfahren und Prüfungen zur Feststellung der Übereinstimmung mit den Anforderungen sowie sicherheitsbezogene Benutzerinformationen, die der Hersteller dem Anwender zur Verfügung zu stellen hat.
Dieses Dokument gilt nicht für Walzenbürsten und Streifenbürsten, Bürsten für Fahrzeugwaschanlagen, Staubsauger, Bodenreinigungsmaschinen, Kanal- und Straßenreinigungsmaschinen und Dentalbürsten.

This document (prEN 1083-2:2023) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 143 “Machine
tools – Safety”, the secretariat of which is held by SNV.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 1083-2:1997.
prEN 1083-2:2023 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to EN 1083-2:1997:
a) Safety requirements updated by taking over principles from the safety standards for abrasives which
are used on similar machines and for similar applications like brushing tools.

Introduction
This document has been prepared to provide one means of conforming with essential safety
requirements, e.g. of the General Product Safety Directive and associated EFTA regulations.
This document is addressed to designers, manufacturers and suppliers of the rotating technical brushes
described in the scope. In addition, it helps designers, manufacturers and suppliers of brushing machines
in the selection of brushes, in order to reduce the risks and achieve conformity of the respective
machinery with the Essential Safety Requirements of the Machinery Directive.

1 Scope
This document specifies requirements and measures for removal or reduction of hazards resulting from
the design and application of power-driven brushes.
NOTE Power-driven brushing tools are e.g. cup brushes, wheel brushes, end brushes, disc brushes, tube
brushes and head brushes.
This document also contains procedures and tests for verification of compliance with the requirements
as well as safety information for use, which is to be made available to the user by the manufacturer.
