Overview

prEN 12514-2 rev (CEN) - Parts for supply systems for consuming units with liquid fuels - Part 2: Safety requirements and tests - defines safety, performance and testing requirements for components used in automatic liquid-fuel supply systems. The standard covers feed pumps, control and safety devices, service tanks, and service vessels, and permits combinations of these parts. Prepared by CEN/TC 47, this draft (prEN) updates earlier EN 12514 editions and aligns the requirements with the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC).

Key topics and technical requirements

  • Scope and applicability: Parts for automatic supply of liquid fuel from one or more tanks to one or more consuming units.
  • Materials and construction: Requirements and tests for material suitability and mechanical construction (see prEN 12514-1 references).
  • Pressure strength and temperature range: Mandatory pressure and temperature performance tests including thermoplastic-specific tests.
  • Outlet pressure and supply volume: Supply capacity must be declared by the manufacturer and verified by testing (clause 5.2).
  • Fitness-for-use testing: Type-testing procedures to demonstrate operational reliability; number of cycles specified in clause 4.2.5.
  • Leak-tightness: External leak-tightness (no visible leakage) and internal leak-tightness requirements for shut-off/check functions, tested to EN 12266-2 acceptance criteria.
  • Inlet pressure and operational function: Determination of minimum/maximum inlet pressures and functional tests before/after fitness-for-use tests.
  • Electrical safety and protection: Electrical requirements and degrees of protection (minimum IP20), with guidance to EN 60335 and EN 50156 where environmental conditions exceed appliance standards.
  • Marking, packaging and instructions: Mandatory information for installation, operation and maintenance; updated marking and packaging requirements included.

Practical applications and who uses this standard

  • Manufacturers of feed pumps, control/safety devices, service tanks and vessels for oil-fuel systems - to design, test and CE‑mark products.
  • Test laboratories and quality departments - to perform type testing, factory production control and leak/pressure tests.
  • System integrators and installers - to verify component compatibility, inlet/outlet pressure and supply volumes for safe installation.
  • Regulatory and compliance teams - to ensure conformity with CEN requirements and the Machinery Directive.
