ISO/TC 6/WG 7 - Cores for reels of paper

This document specifies test methods for the determination of the internal diameter, the external diameter, the wall thickness and the length of paper and board cores.

This part of ISO 11093 specifies a method for the determination of the maximum flat crush resistance of wound paper and board cores. NOTE If the wall thickness of the core is less than 5 mm, the breaking point is not detectable.

ISO 11093-8:2017 specifies a method for the determination of the flexural modulus by using experimentally measured natural frequencies in the free-free mode of transverse vibration of cylindrical paper and board cores, which meet the following criteria: - internal diameter: 50 mm to 350 mm; - minimum wall thickness: 0,02 × internal diameter or not less than 2,0 mm; - minimum length of core: 8 × internal diameter. NOTE For the determination of the flexural modulus by the three-point method, see ISO 11093‑7.

ISO 11093:2016 specifies a method for determining the characteristics of concentric rotation of cylindrical board cores which meet the following criteria: - minimum wall thickness: 5 mm; - minimum external diameter: 60 mm; - maximum sample length: 3 200 mm.

ISO 11093-7:2011 specifies a method for the determination, by the three-point method, of the flexural modulus of cylindrical paper and board cores, which meet the following criteria: internal diameter: 50 mm to 350 mm; minimum wall thickness: 0,05 × internal diameter, but not less than 10,0 mm; minimum length of core: 10 × internal diameter, but not less than 1 000 mm.

ISO 13542:2006 specifies the internal diameters and tolerances for cores recommended for general use with reels of paper and board in international trade.

ISO 11093-6:2005 specifies a three-point method for the determination of the bending strength of cylindrical board cores which meet the following criteria: internal diameter: 50 mm to 300 mm; minimum wall thickness: 5 mm; minimum test length of core (span): 1 100 mm.

Specifies an oven method for determining the moisture content of wound paper and board cores at the time the sample is taken. The method can be taken for all types of core from which water is the main volatile component to escape at the specified drying temperature.

Specifies the conditioning atmospheres to be used for conditioning and testing cores, the apparatus and the procedure used.

Specifies a method for obtaining a representative sample of a lot of cores for test purposes.

ISO 11093-4:2016 specifies test methods for the determination of the internal diameter, the external diameter, the wall thickness and the length, of paper and board cores.

ISO 11093-8:2012 specifies a method for the determination of the flexural modulus by using experimentally measured natural frequencies in the free-free mode of transverse vibration of cylindrical paper and board cores.

ISO 11093-5:2009 specifies a method for determining the characteristics of concentric rotation of cylindrical board cores which meet the following criteria: minimum wall thickness: 5 mm; minimum external diameter: 60 mm; maximum sample length: 3 200 mm.

ISO 11093-9:2006 specifies a method for the determination of the maximum flat crush resistance of wound paper and board cores.
