La présente Norme européenne spécifie une méthode d'essai applicable aux colles pour bois et pour matériaux dérivés du bois, permettant d'évaluer leur résistance à l'eau chaude et à l’eau froide. La présente norme peut être utilisée pour évaluer la résistance à la rupture des joints présentant un joint de colle mince. Elle ne s'applique pas aux adhésifs destinés à des usages structuraux ni à la fabrication des panneaux de particules, des panneaux de fibres et des contreplaqués, et ne remplace pas les essais sur des produits finis.

- Test 20 test pieces per conditioning sequence.
- Tensile shear test:
- Use constant‑rate‑of‑traverse machine per ISO 5893 (or equivalent constant‑rate‑of‑loading if specified rupture times are met).
- Rate of traverse: ~50 mm/min for thermoplastic adhesives; 6–12 mm/min for thermosetting adhesives.
- Result calculation:
- Shear strength τ (N/mm2) calculated as τ = (2 × Fmax) / (l2 × b), reported to 0.1 N/mm2. Report all 20 results, valid or invalid, with wood‑failure percentage and test details.

Compared to EN 205:2003 the following modifications have been made: a) assessment of the strength based on thick bond lines deleted; b) processing conditions for adhesive application specified in 6.1 if no manufacturer's instructions are available; c) number of test pieces modified in 6.3; d) test results of all 20 test pieces to be given in the test report.
