This European Standard specifies the essential safety requirements for compression moulding machines and transfer moulding machines for the moulding of plastics and/or rubber with a closing movement more than 6 mm.
In this document a compression moulding machine or transfer moulding machine as described above is designated by the term “press” (see 3.1).
This document deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to presses, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see Clause 4).
The safety requirements are specified for the additional hazards arising from:
- shuttle/turn tables used for loading/unloading and/or cooling,
- magnetic clamping systems.
For other ancillary equipment, as defined in 3.7, that is not part of the press, only the requirements for the interaction between presses and ancillary equipment, especially loading and unloading devices are specified.
The following machines or units are excluded:
- pneumatic presses for plastic and rubber;
- injection moulding machines (see EN 201:2009);
- tyre curing machines (see prEN 16474);
- presses for curing inner tubes and curing bags;
- hydraulic presses for the cold working of metals as covered by EN 693:2001+A2:2011;
- mechanical presses for the cold working of metals as covered by EN 692:2005+A1:2009;
- pneumatic presses for the cold working of metals as covered by EN 13736:2003+A1:2009;
- thermoforming machines (see EN 12409:2008+A1:2011);
- reaction injection moulding (RIM) machines (see EN 1612 1:1997+A1:2008);
- the extruder of the carousel machine(see EN 1114 1:2011).
This standard does not cover:
- hazards caused by the processing of materials which may lead to a risk of explosion, see 7.2.2;
- the requirements of Directive 94/9/CE concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres;
- requirements for the design of exhaust ventilation systems, see 5.3.5 and 7.2.8.

Diese Europäische Norm legt die wesentlichen Sicherheitsanforderungen an Formpressen und Spritzpressen zum Herstellen von Formteilen aus Kunststoff und/oder Gummi mit einer Schließbewegung von mehr als 6 mm fest.
In diesem Dokument wird eine oben beschriebene Formpresse oder Spritzpresse mit dem Begriff „Presse“ benannt (siehe 3.1).
Diese Europäische Norm behandelt alle signifikanten Gefährdungen, Gefährdungssituationen und Ereignisse, die für Pressen relevant sind, wenn sie bestimmungsgemäß und unter Bedingungen, die vom Hersteller als Fehlanwendung vernünftigerweise vorhersehbar sind, verwendet werden (siehe Abschnitt 4).
Die sicherheitstechnischen Anforderungen sind für zusätzliche Gefahren festgelegt, die sich ergeben aus:
- Schiebetischen (Wechseltischen)/Drehtischen, die zum Beschicken/Entnehmen und/oder Kühlen verwendet werden,
- Magnetspannsystemen.
Für andere Zusatzeinrichtungen, wie in 3.7 festgelegt, die kein Teil der Presse sind, sind nur die Anforderungen an das Zusammenwirken zwischen Pressen und Zusatzeinrichtungen, speziell Be  und Entladevorrichtungen, festgelegt.
Die folgenden Maschinen oder Einrichtungen sind ausgeschlossen:
- pneumatische Pressen für Kunststoff und Gummi;
- Spritzgießmaschinen (siehe EN 201:2009);
- Reifenvulkanisiermaschinen (siehe prEN 16474);
- Pressen zum Vulkanisieren von Reifenschläuchen und Vulkanisierschläuchen;
- hydraulische Pressen für die Kaltumformung von Metallen nach EN 693:2001+A2:2011;
- mechanische Pressen für die Kaltumformung von Metallen nach EN 692:2005+A1: 2009;
- pneumatische Pressen für die Kaltumformung von Metallen nach EN 13736:2003+A1:2009;
- Warmformmaschinen (siehe EN 12409:2008+A1:2011);
- Reaktionsgießmaschinen (RIM) (siehe EN 1612-1:1997+A1:2008);
- die Extruder der Karussellmaschine (siehe EN 1114-1:2011).
Die vorliegende Norm behandelt nicht:
- Gefährdungen durch die Verarbeitung von Materialien, die zu einer Explosionsgefahr führen können, siehe 7.2.2;
- Anforderungen der Richtlinie 94/9/EG für Geräte und Schutzsysteme zur bestimmungsgemäßen Verwen-dung in explosionsgefährdeten Bereichen;
- Anforderungen an die Konstruktion von Abluftsystemen, siehe 5.3.5 und 7.2.8.
Dieses Dokument gilt nicht für Pressen, die vor dem Zeitpunkt von dessen Veröffentlichung als EN hergestellt wurden.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les prescriptions de sécurité essentielles relatives aux machines de moulage par compression et aux machines de moulage par transfert qui sont utilisées pour le moulage des matières plastiques et/ou du caoutchouc et ont un mouvement de fermeture supérieur à 6 mm.
Dans le présent document, le terme « presse » (voir 3.1) désigne une machine de moulage par compression ou une machine de moulage par transfert telle que décrite ci-dessus.
Le présent document traite de tous les phénomènes dangereux, situations et événements dangereux significatifs associés aux presses en cas d’utilisation normale ou de mauvais usage raisonnablement prévisible par le constructeur (voir l’Article 4).
Des prescriptions de sécurité sont spécifiées pour prévenir les phénomènes dangereux supplémentaires résultant de la présence de :
- tables coulissantes ou pivotantes utilisées pour le chargement/déchargement et/ou le refroidissement ;
- systèmes de bridage magnétiques.
Pour les autres équipements auxiliaires tels que définis en 3.7 qui ne font pas partie intégrante de la presse, seules sont spécifiées les prescriptions relatives à l’interaction entre la presse et ces équipements auxiliaires, en particulier les dispositifs de chargement et de déchargement.
Les machines ou unités suivantes sont exclues :
- presses pneumatiques pour les matières plastiques et le caoutchouc ;
- machines de moulage par injection (voir l'EN 201:2009) ;
- machines à vulcaniser les pneumatiques (voir le prEN 16474) ;
- presses de vulcanisation des chambres à air et vessies de cuisson ;
- presses hydrauliques pour le travail à froid des métaux traitées dans l’EN 693:2001+A2:2011 ;
- presses mécaniques pour le travail à froid des métaux traitées dans l'EN 692:2005+A1:2009 ;
- presses pneumatiques pour le travail à froid des métaux traitées dans l'EN 13736:2003+A1:2009 ;
- machines de thermoformage (voir l'EN 12409:2008+A1:2011) ;
- machines de moulage par réaction (machines RIM, voir l’EN 1612-1:1997+A1:2008) ;
- extrudeuses des machines à carrousel (voir l’EN 1114-1:2011).
La présente norme ne couvre pas :
- les phénomènes dangereux résultant du travail de matières pouvant engendrer un risque d’explosion, voir 7.2.2 ;
- les exigences de la Directive 94/9/CE relative aux appareils et aux systèmes de protection destinés à être utilisés en atmosphères explosibles ;
- les prescriptions relatives à la conception de systèmes d'aspiration, voir 5.3.5 et 7.2.8.

Standard EN 289 določa osnovne varnostne zahteve za stiskalnice za tlačno oblikovanje in brizganje za oblikovanje plastike in/ali gume z zapornim gibanjem nad 6 mm. V tem dokumentu je stiskalnica za tlačno oblikovanje in brizganje, kot je opisana zgoraj, označena z izrazom »stiskalnica«. Ta dokument opisuje vsa večja tveganja, nevarne situacije in nevarne dogodke v zvezi s stiskalnicami, kadar se uporabljajo v skladu z njihovim namenom in pod pogoji pričakovane nepravilne uporabe, ki jih določa proizvajalec. Varnostne zahteve so določene za dodatna tveganja, ki izhajajo iz: – podajalnih/vrtljivih miz, ki se uporabljajo za podajanje/odvzem in/ali hlajenje; – magnetnih vpenjalnih sistemov.
