The SIST EN 50665:2018 standard provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating electronic and electrical equipment in relation to human exposure to electromagnetic fields, covering the range from 0 Hz to 300 GHz. Its focus on assessing electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields, along with induced and contact currents, establishes a critical foundation for addressing health and safety concerns associated with the increasing prevalence of electronic devices. One of the key strengths of this standard is its broad applicability, particularly for equipment lacking dedicated product or product family standards concerning human exposure limits. This flexibility allows the standard to fill a crucial gap in the regulatory landscape, ensuring that even niche products are assessed for compliance with human exposure restrictions. Additionally, the standard’s inclusion of both intentional and non-intentional radiators reflects a comprehensive approach, recognizing the diverse nature of electronic and electrical equipment. The standard also emphasizes the importance of context in its evaluations. By acknowledging that suppliers may not have thorough knowledge of the exposure environments where their equipment will be used, SIST EN 50665:2018 ensures that the assessments are rooted in practical usage scenarios, thereby enhancing the relevance of the evaluations conducted under its guidelines. It is important to note that while it addresses human exposure, the standard does not substitute for other specific safety or compatibility standards; rather, it complements them by focusing exclusively on exposure limits. In summary, the SIST EN 50665:2018 standard is a vital resource that effectively addresses the need for assessment of human exposure to electromagnetic fields associated with a wide range of electronic and electrical equipment. Its broad scope, relevance in diverse environments, and distinct focus on exposure limitations make it an essential tool for manufacturers and evaluators alike, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards in an era dominated by electronic devices.
