Introduction
Disinfecting is one of the most important means of preventing the spread of infectious diseases. In
the current environment, it is of great practical significance to establish International Standards for
corrosion detection of disinfectants scientifically. This document is intended to provide a basis for
corrosion detection of disinfectants and to help prevent potential hazards caused by improper use of
disinfectants worldwide.
This document only provides the corrosion test method for disinfectants under the condition of total
immersion. Other corrosion test methods are not included in this document. This document does not
include the evaluation of corrosion test results.

The ISO 5156:2022 standard provides a comprehensive framework for evaluating the corrosivity of disinfectants on metals and alloys through a total immersion method. This document's scope is well-defined, focusing specifically on the testing protocol for determining how disinfectants affect various metal materials during continuous exposure. By detailing apparatus, reagents, materials, and conditioning processes required for the testing, the standard facilitates consistency and reproducibility in corrosion testing across laboratories. One of the key strengths of ISO 5156:2022 is its meticulous approach to the testing procedure, ensuring that all relevant factors influencing corrosion are considered. This includes pre-cleaning of test specimens, which is vital for obtaining accurate results. Additionally, the inclusion of a thorough test report template supports effective documentation and communication of findings, which is essential for industries reliant on understanding the durability of materials in disinfectant environments. Furthermore, this standard's relevance in today's market cannot be overstated. As the use of disinfectants becomes ubiquitous across various sectors, ensuring the integrity of metal and alloy components in contact with these substances is crucial. The ISO 5156:2022 standard meets this demand by providing a method that aligns with current industry practices and safety standards, although it emphasizes the user's responsibility for addressing safety concerns associated with its application. In conclusion, ISO 5156:2022 emerges as a crucial tool for researchers and industries seeking to assess the potential corrosive effects of disinfectants on metal materials, reinforcing best practices in corrosion testing while acknowledging the need for safety diligence in its execution.
